  1. We are currently half way through splitting our wood for next winter we started this time last year by taking 50 tonne out of a wood we replanted. Sold last bag of origonal lot 3 weeks ago. We have also sold half the birch we bought in december which we cutand split straight away into vented bags and stored under a dutch barn that catches alot of sun and wind its prob not fully seasoned i know but burns well and people have been happy with it. Were going to do at least 100 tonne this year mb more if i get brave (or stupid lol). We run a cheap wessex splitter on a mf 698t and all cutting is done by hand picking logs 2 or 3 at a time with a tractor with palet tines and cutting with chainsaw. logs are piled next to splitter and split into m3 vented bags we made a bag stand to hold the bag on a pallet to fill then can move with a pallet jack or tines. we can at best split a m3 in a hr all 8 inch logs small to medium sized. I dont want to go down the processor route because we arnt doing enough yet in my opinion and it also would limit the size of stuf we could buy. I would very much like a pto driven poche splitter but would like to know if this would improve my output. what type of outputs do you guys get? Sorry this is abit long winded but wanted you to get a idea of our setup Many thanks jim

  4. paslodes are tempramental at best when cold. The paslode gas isnt as good as the rawl gas which works in colder temps but still not great near freezing. we keep a can on van heater and keep swaping. you can tell if it needs a service by looking at the front there are some small silver finns at the top when they get gunged up its time for a service

  15. Hi i started gardening and landscaping 3 yrs ago i delivered leaflets to local town and villages printed them my self and delivered with my girlfreind. Picked up enough work in first year to take a lad on part time. Now have 2 vans 2 full time and a lad through summer while he was of uni. guna av a aprentice next season. Iv spent alot advertising some good some bad you soon learn what works. I still leaflett drop evry spring works great. Imo a website is best for when ur established so you can showcase your work. Stick to geting ur name out there cheaply and efectivly local advertising mags are good. good look only thing i would say is if ur guna do it throw yourself at it 110% and dont let up i work as hard now looking for work as i did at the start even though we have a lot of regulars. good luck mate shure ul do arite

  19. Hi First year cut and seasoned 52 tonne of ardwood in april which ithought looked alot lol started selling steadily @ £80 a cube or £155 for 2 now phone red hot took 20 out this last week next week looking good 2. At this rate il run out in a month lol what should i do turn people away and hope they come back next year when il have bigger stock pile or get some in and sell it green and risk them not coming back? Feels like im guna b between a rock and a hard place. My personal pref is to be honest and discount my prices for the fact its green and let people have the choice.
  20. I Dont know about that lol kinda been picking up bits of other threads iv read and generally making it up as i go along. must admit though logs dried very well in the bags cos i was sceptical at first.
  21. Hi thanks for the advice so far at the min i have 70 bags 2 wide 35 long down the side of a road with a foof between each one all on pallets. would i be best stacking them up in a heap 3 high and putting a sheet over the top ones then?
  22. Hi this is my first season i have seasoned my logs all summer in vented bags jst started to get a steady number of sales. I have undercover storage for about 16 bags which is 2 trailer loads to collect where im storing outside. my idea is to sell 8 bring another load home to stand while i sell the other 8 basically to let them dry of from any wet weather and keep doing this on a cycle. Are logs ok out in the elements over winter? wont draw moisture back in will they? any hints or tips would be apreciated cos im quite proud of my nice dry logs dont want to ruin them lol
