  8. Yea give the lad a break. Hes starting out with very little experience just a lot of enthusiasm and a will to do a good job. At least he is asking questions and seems to care about the thoughts of the people hes working for. And trying to do a good job. I started on my own 4 years ago with 5 years previous experience in landscaping and fencing and its not easy going from been told what to do to having to work out what to do for yourself. I was lucky and had people to sound ideas out with and prior experience to call upon. 4 years on i have 3 fultime staff and a good reputation and im still learning all the time. So lets give him a helping hand. By the way i used to have my dad mix cement when i started never paid him alot he still helps by picking materials up and delivering to jobs. Good luck and if you ever need any advice feel free to pm me any time and il do my best to help James

  10. not very often somtimes go knock strainers in. Most of time theres 2 of us i hold all posts and one driving tractor
  11. Ours is homemade its the middle out of a set of cambridge rollers on a frame with a 3 point linkage push it through the net and place it on the frame and drive it has no tensioner but without a doubt keeps nets tighter than rolling by hand we just put a set of gripples in when we run out put next net on and keep going can roll 100m net in 5mins. We s our nett of on strainers bit hard to explain but put a row of staples up your net on your first strainer, bend the spare wire back over the first staple put a second staple in over the wire thats bent back and the wire thats against the post the bend the wire back and cut makes a s shape its very strong and quick to do. il try get a pic. never used the t clips
  12. I loved my old parmiter the vibrating hands after a day holding posts lol it was great. I have a grass cutting/garden maintenance round that keeps 2 lads busy most of the year and i spend most of my time fencing mostly stock fencing and closeboarding. We do quite abit of post and rail doesnt seem to be much about at min. also do quite abit of turfing and paving in summer. Winter is mainly hedge and tree planting. keeps 3/4 of us busy all year. Iv come to conclusion that no matter how well you kit yourself up fencing there will always be a job come along where there would be a better way. lol never been beat yet with tractor come close once or twice tho
  13. Id love one on a digger but we would use it once in a blue moon tractor mounted is best for us but like you say you carnt get everywere with a big tractor. Do you do alot of fencing?. were very busy this year been at it solid 2 months now.
  14. Prety smart set up you will get into some rare spots we are generally fencing in flat ish big open fields. How do you come un with strainers we can knock a 8 ft 7inch strainer 4ft in the ground in 5 mins into clay. When i first started had a parmiter could take upto half a hour. lol must admit protechs are a good machine to use
  15. protech p200s on back of a case mx110. Our wire roller keeps nets quite tight so grippling is easier when we roll by hand you do get alot of slack but never had a problem best we have managed is 6 100m nets in one pull of 6 gripple points we find the longer the pull the beter they work. We can get nets realy tight with them. with barb we tie of at a strainer roll net to next strainer put a loop in it hook onto a chain on knocker ease forward with tractor then pull it tight by booming the knocker in. Works a treat you always have to pull out of inward corners. Do you have a knocker on a digger? Are they good whats it like putting strainers in? James
  16. yea barb is awful stuff. How do you tension barb and netts? we use gripples iv tried lots of ways but find gripples the best we use 100m nets so there arnt as many joins keeping the cost of them down. We roll nets out right round the field then stat at first gripple point tension it then move on to next by time your right round nets tight. We have a wire roller on tractor makes rolling nets a breeze. we usualy pull barb of the post knocker or front loader. What are the clamp systems like for tensioning barb?
  17. Lastt one we did was about 900m of roots ended up digging trench with digger was good fun though. I think all fencing is reasonably straight forwar in theory its usualy ground conditions that cause the problems. We have just stock fenced round a river about 600m on low very wet stuff. we put tractor in once and by time we had been round it the wheelings were full of water amd very soft i wouldnt have driven through them again. So we rolled all nets and barb by hand which added time. Best bit was the bit we had ridden over 3 hours eearlier turned into a water bed i jumped on it and the ground wobbled 4 metres away. never seen stuf like that before. I pierced the surface with a spade and water shot out lol
  18. Yea i liked that 2
  19. I would generaly have waited a week then seeded but you mite be ok cover yourself by putting some more on next week. overseeding can be abit hit and miss but current weather you should be ok grass seed needs good contact with soil to germinate somtimes running over with a roller helps press it into the soil. Good look everyones got to start somewhere maybe best to ask before if u need advice could save u some time. Also dont undevalue yourself just because your starting out people will come to expect it and not want to pay more as you get better . You need to earn a wage for yourself and a wage for your buisness to pay for new better equipment that inturn will earn you more money
  20. Without seeing state of lawn hard to determine best course of action but usualy a good mow followed by a application of a selective weedkiller and a fertiliser followed by overseeding is usualy enough to regenerate a lawn if not rip it up and returf
  21. Drove a 7810 on a mini heston baler and a muckspreader for a season oldest tractor in fleet of 9 newer j deeres but by far best tractor i have drove. Pure power 2nd only to the old case mxs. Driven a 6910 beats the 20 and 30 series
  22. Tell him to look for a working hostel that will get harvest work for you ie fruir picking. I was in a spot called mildura 4 years ago its in victoria stayed in the hostel they find you work and provide transport. Its a good laugh we were all broke and working to get by. Good luck

  24. Hi just wondering what type of output you get for vertical splitter? All our wood is ringed up to 8 to 10 inch then split with a cheap wessex splitter. I can do a vented cube bag in a hr. lad that works for us bout fifteen mins longer. Just been wondering if a beter splitter would improve pruductivity. Many thanks Jim
