  1. Yeah some do. I did for a few years but didn't like being a landlord so sold it.
  2. Exactly the point I was making to you.
  3. I was beginning to like you but no avocado on toast. Get real 🤣
  4. Surprised you haven't got a lpg refillable bottle. Much cheaper.
  5. The not paying taxes is a fallacy. We all work and all pay our dues.. I pay plenty. The no room for old men again is something some of you have assumed /invented. It simply doesn't exist.
  6. True
  7. Most of us are key workers when it comes to it
  8. I agree your greener than some of your colleagues. I still don't see it as sustainable in the grand scheme of things,
  9. That would be ignoring the helicopter but yes.
  10. Was it dave Darby published by lili?
  11. Sorry I only do pony fencing.
  12. The grumpy one at the back. So it's totally on the job qualified?
  13. Interesting thought. Fag paper calculation. Glasgow to oslo. Economy return.. 0.4 tonnes co2 Equivalent to about 1000 miles in a medium to large petrol car. So one trip equivalent to about 6 weeks 30 mile commute. My average commute is probably 4 or 5 miles a day. Just had to do 25 miles to find some diesel for the next 2 weeks though. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Would depend on how you think about living in a van. Drive somewhere. Park up next to your work for the next few weeks. No commute. Move on somewhere down the road and do the same.
  14. Makes sense. What kind of trees you got there?
  15. Interesting and also confusing. What's your job title and what qualifies you to do it?
  16. Might be sustainable for you. Not so much for the planet.
  17. That surprises me. You got a lot of your own to do or are you going to go contracting?
  18. Out of interest what is your usual schedule. 30 days on 40 off for example?
  19. We all pay taxes.
  20. All my work is within a 15 mile radius except for the occasional Milling job I travel to to help someone out. From what I remember of what youve posted in the past, you fly to Norway and then get a helicopter from there. Would be way more sustainable if you lived somewhere near the helicopter site. Sorry forgot to reply to that one. We are not ageist. We try to keep a balance between young /old, male/female, single/couple, parent /non parent etc etc. The oldest member here at the moment is 72. He is certainly slowing down but he does what he can. For example while we were logging he was very good at bringing out tea and cake and sorting lunch etc. We wouldn't ever kick someone out for being old but what happens as he gets older and frailer I can't say as it's never happened in the lifespan of the community.
  21. Ill be here till my son is old enough to go his own way. By which time I'll have a good amount in the bank and will live and travel in a van earning enough to get by. My partner is a teacher. She will probably go part time supply and we will follow that around. Well that's the current plan anyway. But who knows.
  22. The share Means that while I live here I own an equal share with all other members. When I leave i surrender my share. You also don't get your £1 back. [emoji852]️ That is exactly my point. When i work I pay tax to the man. The less I work the less i pay to the man. Lower tax brackets etc. The more time I spend growing my own food, doing my own maintenance instead of paying trades men, cutting my own logs etc, the less I have to work for the man and the more sustainable I am. That's the benefit of being here. I can rear animals and not be tied to them. I like the sound of your lifestyle too, well the time you work and what your able to do with your time off. I don't like how unsustainable your work lifestyle is and I wouldn't want to do your job. But ho hum. We are all different.
  23. Because we don't let people become members who aren't suited to the lifestyle. Nobody is counting the hours you do. There is no one to count. Only us. We're all in the same boat. All trying to earn a living/run a business etc. We enjoy helping the people we live with. Providing quality food. Teaching others the skills you have etc. Some weeks I do very little. Others I do. loads. The other week I did four days straight logging to fill the shed(pics. Saw logs lined up by my mates botek while he was here too.). I may work 6 days straight on a job to get it done. Its very flexible,.
  24. I appreciate it isn't for everybody. I like it. Lived here a long time. Andy is narrow minded in alot of his postings so shouldn't expect any difference here.
  25. One of the real benefits to me is that I can rear pigs, grow veg etc etc, but I'm not tied to it. If I want to disappear for a month in the van, somebody else will sort those things out.
