  1. It could be as simple as the plug gap..................vaguards need to be set at 20 thou. I seem to remember briggs put out a bulletin about incorrect plug gaps causing hard starting. They did also have problems with sticking solenoids. try cranking the engine for about 1.5 /2 seconds then stop and crank again for the same and so on..... if it starts after 3 or 4 attempts then its probably a solenoid fault.
  2. Try re-setting the governor coz it sound like it may have slipped on the shaft. loosen nut on shaft,turn shaft counter clockwise with a pair of pliers,push linkage forward with finger to its stop, then re-tighten nut,start machine and try. If that dont work try turning clockwise.
  3. Think there is either 2 or 3 holes that the front of the spring can fit in to change the tension? try putting it in a different one to give a little more tension.....if not you can just very slightly bend the the little tang where the rear of the spring fits in the governor arm to increase tension to try and lower the speed. (it is quite possible that you have maybe caught something in the spring area when cutting....ie:pushing mower under a bush...)
  4. Check to see if the governor arm is stuck?.....can u move it back and forth with your finger?........is the bolt that holds it on loose and the linkage slipped on the shaft???? With the engine running can u move the governor with your finger and slow the engine down?? had a few of these honda engines with sticking governors..stripped engine,found no definitive fault with governor cleaned and re-built,fresh oil and hey presto no more racing away.
  5. yeh had a couple like that on the older grey engine model, but never had any issue's with the newer orange engine.

  7. It depends on how cheap you want to go......... if your happy with the stihl then stick with it. We mainly use echo,but they are getting quite pricey now and also have a couple of husky long handled cutters and they performing very well.
  8. I wear a Portwest soft shell, think it was about £30ish. Think its there technik range, Hi-viz,extreme breathable rainwear, sleeves can be removed to turn into a gilet,plenty of pockets,best jacket i've had i also wear it when i bike to work coz its breathable and hi-viz......
  9. We have 3 models of the crary bearcat,(think there badged as echo now)the smallest having a honda v-twin fitted,all towable,plenty of grunt and reliable.

  11. "nothin runs like a deere". Thats my choice from the two, are you limited to just these two make's?? What about a countax,spec a mulching deck and no sweeper and bag,if req. you'd get a 5 year warranty and one of the best lawn tractors on the market plus its british made and owned.
  12. Like i say the dane is a great workhorse and should give many years of service. I wouldn't stick with genuine blades, we use oregons own brand they last about 2/3 time's longer.
  13. Check the air gap between the coil and the flywheel! if its to wide you wont get a spark. Also you could take the exhaust off and check for scoring on the piston and barrel,its maybe picked up or been run with the wrong mix(thats why it was sold on flee bay).
  14. We use both the scag and the dane and you would not expect to find a big difference in either seen as they were both design and built by the same man (Dane Scag),i think john deere now own dane(something to do with a law suit). Dont get me wrong the dane is a good work horse but it just does not seem as well put together as the scag,and i'm talking about a 10 year old scag vs a brand new dane!!
