For no other reason than just having a look, I've seen an l200 warrior 07 plate for sale locally. It's done 70,000 miles has 10 months MOT and he is not asking alot of money for it. Does anyone on here use one as a work truck, why do you think of them? Is there any age related problems with them? Cheers all

The only reason strikes don't work any more is because alot of people will quite happily moan about the increase but won't do anything about it and just carry on. Its about the only thing the French can do right, when they have a strike the whole country gets behind the cause. Not just a few die hards and the other who will winge but cave in far to early. If a strike was to work here everyone has get behind it, not just the tanker drivers.

A few weeks ago i won a contract to carry out some tree work for my local parish council. Having met with the guy who was organising the work he said we had won the tender. Although the work was being organised by the Parish coucil a local home owner was paying for the work. A few days ago i got a phone call from the counciller saying the gardener of the home owners house has said the quote was to high and wanted to get a few more. Having asked all the other companies to re tender i didn't get asked. I then got a phone call saying that the tender was getting cancelled and re awarded to another firm who were previously alot more money. I was not informed of any changes to the decribed work or asked if i could lower my price at all. My question is do any of you get the client to sign something once you have been awarded the work to recover any costs for time or cancelled orders etc.. I was thinking along the lines of £100 or 10% which ever is greater? This is only because the work was worth quite a few thousand pounds. Its not just the lost work but the time i have put into getting the quote put together and having to cancel things i had booked for the job. The whole thing was done on a very informal arangement so is there any advice anyone can pass on for future referance? Cheers All.

I've just gone through this process, Hilux is probably the best pickup to buy but you pay a premium for the relability, build quality etc...... With you budget you'll be looking at a high mileage 2.4td or a lower mileage 2.4d Ford Ranger/Mazda B2500 this is what i settled for. I paid £3000 for 120,000 miler with full history, immaculate body, and a 6 month warrenty. Really pleased with it. I do more road driving than off road so suits me fine. There are normally a fair few for sale so you can shop around a bit. I didn't look at L200's or Navaras. For the money you've got to spend would either get you a td25 Navara with lower miles or the dreaded d22. If you opt for a d22 check the history of the engine. Alot of them have shot conrods throught the block. Ones that have had repalcement eninges may not have had the required mods to cure the problem so be aware. L200's can crack their heads resulting in a £2k plus repair bill. This won't have happened to everyone's navara/l200 i'm just speaking from what i have experience with friends ones. Both on my mates who had navara's had to have new engine's fitted, and i've got 3 friends who have had no end or problems with l200's. In my opinion have a look on ebay, autotrader, local papers etc and see whats around locally. Its alot of time and money to loose driving to the other side of the country to see something that's no good. Work out what you need and not what you want. Oh and not to forget the mighty defender. I've had two of these, great off roaders but i do alot of miles so wanted something a little less agricultral. Parts readily avaliable, only tin worm effects them fairly badly.

Is it worth more as log wood then or worth contacting someone to see if they would buy it for turning?

I've got a job taking down three large lime trees. There is going to be a large amount of rings to be taken away from the job. Question is is the wood worth anything apart from for log wood?

Does anyone know what a hilux 2.4td can do mileage wise? I'm looking at one which has done over 160k miles. I know these will go on forever just dont know at what point they will die.

Depending on where you are in Sussex it might be worth giving David Rossney a call on 01580 712 417 or email [email protected]. He runs a company called esus forestry who just deal with training. He's a really nice bloke and if you qualify for any funding he'll sort all the stuff out. A friend of mine is cutting cord near Hailsham in East. He's got about 150 tonne cut and stacked at the moment, with another 150 tonne to come out over the next few weeks. He offered me the wood but due to problems with the council i can't buy it. He's after £45 a tonne roadside, he can arrange deivery at extra cost if needed. The wood is a mixture of hardwoods with the first 150 tonne having alot of hornbeam in. If your interested PM me your contact details and i'll pass them on. Cheers Tim

Just wondering if any hauliers are free in the mid sussex area or are passing through. We've got to get the last of our wood moved before the end of the year and i'd like to get it moved sooner incase the weather turns. There's probably 25-30 tonne to be moved, if by lorry its about a 5-6 mile trip. If its tractor and trailer its a 4 mile round trip. If there are any hauliers or anyone with a tractor and trailer who are passing around the Haywards heath area please get in touch if you can spare a day.

After my landrover being stolen I'm now left without a 4x4. I'm after something I can use on a daily basis, is four wheel drive, and can carry logs. It has to be something my other half can drive. I'm looking at getting a hilux, but have thought of getting an l200/navara tipper. Got up to a £10k budget. What are you all using?

That's what I'm wondering. Did they steal it to drive or steal it to tow something heavy. I know the assessors will repair all visible damage, but are they going to check/notice any mechanical damage done to the landrover. A friend who works in the police has looked at the case file and it was used in a ram raid before it was dumped but what else did they do in the 3 weeks it's been gone.

2-3 weeks ago my defender got stolen from outside my house one night. A few weeks have gone by and I haven't heard anything. Then today I got a phone call from the police saying they have my landrover and it will be transported to the insurance assessors yard Monday or Tuesday. I phoned the police yard to see what damage has been done and they said from what they can see all windows have been smashed and the interior has been trashed. The repair company will now assess if it can be repaired or if it's a write off. Apart from all the damage that you can see what happens with all the running gear? The landy has 14,000 miles on the engine and all the running gear was really good. Presumably they stole the landy to tow something or things very heavy. What happens with regards to all the running gear if it's not how it was when it was stolen? Does anyone have any experience with this, any help dealing with this would be greatly appreciated? Was at the wealden wood fair today. Had a good day out, looked at alot of things and talked to alot of exhibitors about they're product. Just need to save up some pennies now. Had been there about 15 minutes when I got a phone call from my girlfriend. She asked where I had hidden the landrover as she couldn't find it, after a few mintues of me thinking she was winding me up it dawned on me that it had been knicked. Some b*****d had come along last night and broken into the landrover, and drove away without waking anyone. Really put a downer on the day. Apart from that, was a good day out.

Ignore that, just re read it. Oil is only around 57p per litre at the mo.

What price was the oil when you worked this out?

My dads got a 2.0 turbo petrol one. Didn't have any problems on the snow, got everywhere. The ground clearance isn't as good as a 4x4 but better than a car. Mpg expect somewhere between 22-25. Depends on how your drive it. They can't pull a massive amount of weight. But as a daily driver they're brilliant.

I'm going through the same problem. The planning officer said I need to apply for permission to import and process timber on the site. They also said I have to clear the timber from the site before I can apply for permission. So the extra costs are meaning I'm not making as much as I'd like on my logs. Let me know how you get on with planning as I need to get it sorted for my land.

Have got to move the last of our beech cord. Our time runs out with the council in the next few weeks and we are expecting an enforcement notice after that. The wood needs to be moved from Danehill in Sussex to another location a few miles away. Will be a 4-5 mile round trip, there's around 20-25 tonne left. Just a shot in the dark to see if any forestry contractors etc will be in the area with the equipment and fancy a days money on route to a job. PM me if you've got any info. Cheers tim

Looking to stock up for next winter with a couple of arctic loads. The last lot we brought worked out at about £45 a tonne delivered. I know were not going to get it that cheap again but what's the going rate at the moment. Cheers all

Spotted this on ebay, stihl ms 440 chainsaw | eBay Don't know how to do the clicky link. Saw something on the tele a week or so ago about these bad knock off saws being shipped over from china. If you look as the side cover and top cover they don't even look nearly right. Would like to think no one on here would buy it. They said on the tele they were trying to stop them all at customs but theyre still getting through. Just feel sorry for the poor buggers buying them as genuine saws.
