I have mine done every year in my hilux. Can’t remember what Toyota recommend but I only do 6-7k miles a year in it. Personally I don’t think it would do the engine and good to leave it 3 years and definitely not 30,000 miles. Oil and a new filter is cheap, a new engine £££££

Has anyone run a 540t? Trying to find info about them on the web but seems to be very little in the way of any reviews on them. How do they compare to the more modern stuff? cheers all

Glad you’ve had a trouble free 3 years. How’s the paint holding up after 3 years? The thing I’m having a little trouble getting use to is the 25hp engine, hence why I’d like to have a look at the 205.

Evening all. After any reviews from people who own one of the new Greenmech Evo range, particularly the 205. One my search for a tracked chipper I got Matt from GA groundcare out to demo the evo 165dt. After my previous experience with the Greenmech 150p I really wanted to hate it. Giving Greenmech another chance I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of changes from the old arborist range. Would just like some owners reviews who’ve put a few hours on the Evo range to see how they’re getting on. cheers all

While I was up at the APF show I went and had a look at the current offerings from the 4 companies I would likely use. Jensen have an A550 with a 37hp yanmar which looked nice and seemed like a solid piece of kit. The dealer near me has a 2023 NOS that I can get for a good bit cheaper than a new one. Would just have to get a demo sorted. Really liked the look of the Greenmech evo 165 and 205. Look considerably better put together than the ARB150 I bought from Greenmech a few years ago. Need to speak to the dealer about getting a demo on one of those. My biggest concerns are the quality of the paint work which was shocking on the last machine I had. Considering as it was stored in a barn when not in use the paintwork was just falling off of it to reveal just on everything that wasn’t plastic. I really hope this has been addressed. And the dealer is 3-4 hours away from me so I need to find out if they have service agents who deal with warranty work. Forst, I have a 6” petrol Forst currently and have been very happy with it. Have a friend with a tracked 8” 55hp and he’s been very happy with that so don’t really feel I need a demo from them. Timberwolf, I don’t really know how I felt about these. There was a lot of things I liked about the machines looking at them but also a lot of that I wasn’t overly keen on. Left Timberwolf feeling a little underwhelmed.

I went up on Saturday this year rather than Friday. The show seemed pretty empty of visitors compared to the Friday we went the last time. This is by no means a complaint, it was nice to be able to walk around without fighting through crowds and being able to talk to dealers without waiting for ages was really nice. As said by others the food places not taking cash was a pain, and the food seemed to be particularly rubbish even for catering vans. Also as said the phone network being blocked most of the day wasn’t the best. On the whole though a really good day out and will definitely be going again in 2 years time.

Cheers Mark, I saw this earlier. Through previous bad experiences I tend to avoid buying other people’s machines unless I know the owner. Looking to buy new or ex demo.

I’ll be honest have got a Forst 6” petrol road tow and so far the machines been faultless. Considerably better than the petrol GM I had before it which spent more time being fixed than working. Have been very happy with Forst but the biggest downside is they have a much lower resale value as they’ve somewhat flooded the market. I’d be open to getting another GM but would need to get over the damage done with my previous ARB150.

It’s an estate that we’re working for with a private 18 hole golf course. They don’t want anything left or stacked in the woods as they get them flailed off every autumn/winter to let the blue bells come through.

We currently have two road tow 6” chippers and a multione 6.3 which has been alright. Have had moment where we have been towing the chipper into site and the multione has got stuck so hasn’t been the ideal solution. We got a fair bit of working starting next year which will involve getting into the middle of the woods so I don’t think the road tow + m1 option would be the best. Looking at getting rid of one of the road tows to replace with a tracked 6-8” chipper. And the replacing the other road tow unit with a newer one.

Does anyone have any good or bad words to say on any of the current offerings of tracked chippers? Will be looking to trade in my current 6” road tow for a 6”-8” tracked. cheers tim

Sorry was writing it in the van in a hurry It’s a lawson cypress, we’re clay soil, and the house dates from the 40’s. Haven’t got a picture the on thing I forgot to do. Tree at the base is 30” in diameter.

I’ve been asked to remove a large conifer on the boundary of my customers property. Less than 3ft away from the base of the tree is the neighbours house. The neighbour is concerned that if the tree if removed it’s will cause movement around his foundations and result in structural problems with his house. Very much out of my depth here so looking for advice moving forward? Don’t want this to fall back on me at any point in the future. Cheers all

How robust do you think it is? I was weighing up this or the husky battery one. Bought the husky because I have batteries on site more than my Milwaukee gear. Was letting a mate use it and a small chop hit the shaft and bent it so we couldn’t retract it. Have been waiting on a replacement shaft for nearly 3 months now.

Does anyone know why they’ve all of a sudden shut up shop. Have dealt with them quite a lot and always had a good experience. Will be looking for some to sharpen my blades now if anyone has any recommendations.

Seems to be unusually slow here in mid Sussex. This time of year things normally start to pick up with people heading outside and finding trees/fencing that needs doing. Looked at my first job for two weeks today, started off as a load of trees and some fencing that needs replacing. By the time we had had a look at a few bits it went to just a few trees to remove. By the time I left it’s one small maple to remove and I doubt I’ll get that so a complete waste of time. Out of every 5 jobs I look at I’m loosing 4 to people working for peanuts. Recently lost a job which i had priced at £3500 + vat for two of us for a week. Guy I lost it to had come in at £1200 and said two of them would have it done in two days. Spoke to the customer a couple of days ago about another job and asked how the guy got on with the trees. Said it took them 4 days with 3 men on site….. I honestly don’t know how people like this can exist running a business. Were fortunate that we still have 8-10 weeks work in the diary, just hoping it picks up in the mean time.

Sorry to jump in and hijack the thread. I’m also looking into getting a mewp later in the year when funds allow. Would anyone be able to help me with which are the better brands to be looking at and if there are any to avoid? Will be looking to buy second hand unless I can either find or a good deal or you get very good warranty cover when new. Also would you look at better machines with more hours over a cheaper machine with less? This is a completely new area for me so have little to no experience with purchasing these.

If your trying to work out the value of something that has VAT included in the price divide it by 6 will give you the VAT amount, times by 5 will give you the price ex vat. 120 / 6 = 20 the VAT 20 x 5 = 100 the amount before VAT

Just to jump in quickly. The 540i xp rear handle version has a metal side cover which is night and day compared to the plastic one you get on the top handle. Keep meaning to swap them over on my saws and run it on the top handle

I’ve just finished my first year since being VAT registered. Spent 3 years just skating under it and got fed up with constantly having to check my turnover to see where I was so took the leap. First VAT return got me a rebate of £17k which they didn’t fight to pay back just asked for lots of documentation to show the purchases/finance on the big items. Yes I’ve lost a few of the regular people I use to work for who decided to get other people who aren’t VAT registered. The vast majority of people don’t seem to care, they have to pay it with other trades so makes no difference to them. I’ve found you get more of the work you want to be doing and less of the people who want it doing as cheap as possible. Normally just mentioning in VAT registered is enough to stop me wasting my time going to look at a job I wouldn’t get anyway.
