  1. The company I use to work for did a lot of highway contracts and would lease vans for the busy periods when we had more temp staff on. The merc was a fantastic van. Loads of power and would seat 7 if my memory is correct. Its big down fall was the legal weight it could carry. I argued at great lengths with my manager that filling the van with chip put it massively over weight, he would always say don’t be stupid it’s all fine. It’s was a double cab with a 10ft tipping body and because it was a lease vehicle just had a plywood chip box put in while we had it. On one of our jobs the nearest place to tip off was paid site with a weigh bridge. Went in weighed in tipped off and weighed out. The van empty with just me driving weighed 3.2t when I went in loaded with chip was just under 7t. Van got sent back shortly after.

  3. Aviva are saying they won’t top the cover up for some reason. I’ll have to do a new policy. The £700 policy is through another company to get my policy up to 10m which seems a little excessive for 2 days work.
  4. I’m currently insured with a local broker hitch is underwritten by aviva. We do a lot of work for a local estate and they have some roadside trees which need dismantling with TM in place. In booking the TM space they’ve asked for £10m pl cover. I thought no problem I’ll just get them to increase my policy. Proving to not be as simple as that. Aviva won’t just increase my policy from 5 to 10. Looking like I’m going to have to cancel my policy and start a new policy. The broker has said they’ve found a company which can cover the increase for the job, but it £700 for two days. Anyone got any suggestions to help with this.
  5. Thanks all. I think my grease nipple is missing. There just a hole on the large flat face. Best get some grease nipples ordered. I’ll have a look and see if I have an inspection cover there. Thanks all

  7. Where do you mean by the top of the UJ? On the flat faces?
  8. Is anyone able to tell me where they have hidden the grease nipples for the 3 uj’s on the roller shafts. I spent maybe half and hour feeling round with my fingers trying to find them. I would expect them to either be in the centre of the UJ or between 2 of the yokes. Ended up giving up after loosing the feeling in my hands. cheers all
  9. Had it running for a good 5-6 hours today and hasn’t done it once. Managed to get through 3/4 of a tank of diesel with no problems. Will see what happens tomorrow and god from there.
  10. It’s definitely been serviced, oil and filter is all new. It’s a 2016 machine for reference. It’s out tomorrow so I’ll see how I get on. As suggested I’ll let it run low on diesel and have a look in the tank, will get another inline filter and some fuel hose as change those and see where that gets me. I’ll report back when I know more, thanks for the help
  11. Didn’t think about this, thanks for pointing it out. Doesn’t seem to be using any coolant but going to keep an eye on it this week. They did clean the machine off before I collected it so might be that water managed to get into the machine that way. I’ll see how it goes over the next few days and report back. Thanks for your help all.
  12. TH white changed it twice, I’ll try again and see if that cures it. Thank you.

Having recently bought a tracked machine I don’t have the space to keep a road tow as well. Selling my Forst ST6P HD. The HD has a steel bonnet, heavier duty chassis and running gear over the ST6p. It’s done 103 hours which will increase slightly, had a full engine and hydraulic service at 50 hours, runs and chips as it should, paint work etc…. all in good condition. Has been stored inside when not in use. I believe Forst will honour the remaining warranty which is due to expire in March 2026. Comes with the first tool bag, oil for the next service, 2 spares sets of blades that both need sharpening. I’m located just outside Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Viewing is welcome via prior arrangement. Price is plus VAT.

  14. Was using my Jensen 540 today and a few times over the course of a few hours the engine would bog down and it would chuck out white smoke. I’d drop the revs to stop it stalling give it 30 seconds to clear and then would be fine again. Only seemed to happen while tracking the machine around. While chipping it didn’t have any problems. Also ran the machine yesterday and it didn’t do it once. Its literally just had a full service and the tank flushed. Prior to me picking it up 2 days ago it had been sat in a dealers yard for 6 months not doing anything as the control box had failed. I bought it and had it dropped at TH whites who did the control box plus the full service and probably only ran for an hour or so there. Does anyone have any ideas of where I should start looking? cheers all
  15. Don’t know if your budget can stretch but this is for sale as an ex demo from field and forest https://fieldandforestltd.co.uk/range/used/yanmar-sv19-arb/
  16. Echo dsc2500 t hands down the best battery pruning saw you can buy
  17. I have mine done every year in my hilux. Can’t remember what Toyota recommend but I only do 6-7k miles a year in it. Personally I don’t think it would do the engine and good to leave it 3 years and definitely not 30,000 miles. Oil and a new filter is cheap, a new engine £££££
  18. Has anyone run a 540t? Trying to find info about them on the web but seems to be very little in the way of any reviews on them. How do they compare to the more modern stuff? cheers all
  19. Glad you’ve had a trouble free 3 years. How’s the paint holding up after 3 years? The thing I’m having a little trouble getting use to is the 25hp engine, hence why I’d like to have a look at the 205.
  20. Evening all. After any reviews from people who own one of the new Greenmech Evo range, particularly the 205. One my search for a tracked chipper I got Matt from GA groundcare out to demo the evo 165dt. After my previous experience with the Greenmech 150p I really wanted to hate it. Giving Greenmech another chance I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of changes from the old arborist range. Would just like some owners reviews who’ve put a few hours on the Evo range to see how they’re getting on. cheers all
  21. While I was up at the APF show I went and had a look at the current offerings from the 4 companies I would likely use. Jensen have an A550 with a 37hp yanmar which looked nice and seemed like a solid piece of kit. The dealer near me has a 2023 NOS that I can get for a good bit cheaper than a new one. Would just have to get a demo sorted. Really liked the look of the Greenmech evo 165 and 205. Look considerably better put together than the ARB150 I bought from Greenmech a few years ago. Need to speak to the dealer about getting a demo on one of those. My biggest concerns are the quality of the paint work which was shocking on the last machine I had. Considering as it was stored in a barn when not in use the paintwork was just falling off of it to reveal just on everything that wasn’t plastic. I really hope this has been addressed. And the dealer is 3-4 hours away from me so I need to find out if they have service agents who deal with warranty work. Forst, I have a 6” petrol Forst currently and have been very happy with it. Have a friend with a tracked 8” 55hp and he’s been very happy with that so don’t really feel I need a demo from them. Timberwolf, I don’t really know how I felt about these. There was a lot of things I liked about the machines looking at them but also a lot of that I wasn’t overly keen on. Left Timberwolf feeling a little underwhelmed.

I went up on Saturday this year rather than Friday. The show seemed pretty empty of visitors compared to the Friday we went the last time. This is by no means a complaint, it was nice to be able to walk around without fighting through crowds and being able to talk to dealers without waiting for ages was really nice. As said by others the food places not taking cash was a pain, and the food seemed to be particularly rubbish even for catering vans. Also as said the phone network being blocked most of the day wasn’t the best. On the whole though a really good day out and will definitely be going again in 2 years time.
  23. Cheers Mark, I saw this earlier. Through previous bad experiences I tend to avoid buying other people’s machines unless I know the owner. Looking to buy new or ex demo.
  24. I’ll be honest have got a Forst 6” petrol road tow and so far the machines been faultless. Considerably better than the petrol GM I had before it which spent more time being fixed than working. Have been very happy with Forst but the biggest downside is they have a much lower resale value as they’ve somewhat flooded the market. I’d be open to getting another GM but would need to get over the damage done with my previous ARB150.
  25. It’s an estate that we’re working for with a private 18 hole golf course. They don’t want anything left or stacked in the woods as they get them flailed off every autumn/winter to let the blue bells come through.
