  1. Ah, just realized ya thought I added it, or maybe funnin me. No, for some unknown reason, Dolmar put that in. I think it's a mistake in this chassis - but only if you're gonna port it. Stock, it seems to help midrange torque a lot. But good factory ports to start would have done that...
  2. It's main problem is the chassis is large, the transfers are large, and not really designed well, so there's no velocity. Add in the fact you can't remove the gasket for more compression and less volume, and you just are not gonna get more top end out of this one unless you lathe it. The 7900 big brother has a much smaller chassis to displacement, and better designed transfers, for much better top end.
  3. Yup, just an auxiliary. This thing has 6 ports. Which would be great if they were closed. But with open ports, it usually means loads of torque and not much top end, and that's a lot of what ya get here. Though she is quite a bit faster than stock, I didn't put her next to my 241 in the video - that thing has a screaming top end I just port matched the bottom of the jug to the chassis in the first pic. Raised the transfers a bit and played with their direction some, and removed the cat and the louvres from the muffler, and made the intake and exhaust more generous. The thing is built like a freakin' tank.
  4. AH yeahhh... Jis a little snip and trim here and there... Honey, I shrunk the cat...and then ported, polished, and port matched the exhaust. Brrrzzznnnttt!!
  5. The restriction on modern saws is on the exhaust side - not the intake side.

    Porting Saws

Porting is just a good time. [ame] [/ame]
  7. Well, I decided to sell my Mastermind Work Saws ported 044. I have too many projects, too little time and money, and it needs a new carb which I just can't afford right now. So here she lies: Mastermind Ported STIHL 044 w/ full wrap ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds Feel free to email me with questions.
  8. You want 9-9600 or so with the bar buried in the cut, not WOT. At about 13,600 RPM WOT, that thing should get plenty of lube and cut plenty good. Well, without the governor...
  9. You like to seal up holes, don't you? Ah yeahhh.
  10. Most 281's have the mechanically/vacuum governed carbs don't they?

    Veg oil

I have a feeling those that have been having issues with veg have used other than rapeseed/canola, or maybe some of the newer bio oils. Personally, I have had no luck with any of the name brand 'bio oil'. They all are far too tacky, and gunk up like mad in dirty cutting. Rapeseed has the perfect mix of lubrication and viscosity, I find. But I use an air hose on my saw once a week at the very least, and between swapping bars if it's in the shop, so it's not likely to cake regardless.

    Veg oil

I use rapeseed, and have been for about 6 years now. Noticed no real difference from the change from mineral. Store it in the saw with no problems, but I have heard some folks have issues.
  13. I was thinking of asking just 500 for the PHO. The saw is fully rebuilt. But the carb started acting up not long ago, and I just haven't gotten around to replacing it. Although I believe an ultra sonic cleaner might do the trick.
  14. Just spent the day back here on the estate and it's even worse than I thought. And we've taken on more work load than we are really capable of. It's like they are punishing me for enjoying a mojito or two in the sun. See how they are?
  15. All hell broke loose whilst I was away... We now have a lot of work to do here.
  16. Hope Steve doesn't mind I step a bit on his thread here: If anyone is interested in my Mastermind ported 044 with PNW wrap and high output oiler and high output clutch cover, let me know. I got a lot of stuff going on on the farm here, and I am going to need some cash soon. She needs a new carb, but is otherwise in great condition, pushing over 210 psi as is. Cheers, Wes
  17. Hah. That hotel is more show than go. Not unlike my first attempt at porting a 241cm. It's a brand new hotel with very low cost room offers right now, so I thought I would try it out. I do fancy having a wee with the office workers watching across the way there. Never thought I was such a pervo. Ah well. Er, Ah yeahh
  18. Cool story, Bro(I'm in Lisbon now).
  19. Cheap and cheerful. Monaco was a bit out of the budget.
  20. That, my friend, is what she said. Ahh yeahhh. This week it's mostly alcohol on my bench. Spending the BDays in the Portugals.
  21. Bah. Already killed my gunson. But my mercury outboard engine tester seems indestructible. Only goes to 200, tho.
  22. Acts perfectly fine. She feels like she's lightly ported even though she is factory. I have a feeling it's the coil. When it cuts of, it is as though she just shuts off. I am gonna check the wiring again to make sure I didn't miss anything and then try another coil. Will a 420 coil work?
  23. Dolmar 5105. Runs very well... until it cuts out. Seems to do it randomly too. Hot, cold, whatever. But only cuts out at idle. Otherwise, I am impressed.
  24. If I had any extra cash right now I woulda jumped at OEM at that price. BTW, Eddy said you're fat. Ah yeahhh
