An area of law I don’t know about particularly. I’m aware of the reputation but bear in mind lawyers probably want ordinary scumbags to believe they (among others) are unsuable. Have you got any experience of it?

I don’t begrudge professional service providers making good money. As long as their service saves me money and I can engage (or not engage) them in a free market, they can name their boat ‘My Cunt Clients Paid For This’ and sail it past my deckchair. P.S. In fairness, your advice seems pretty good whether you have a yacht or not. I just like my yacht line. P.P.S. I have a yacht.

Generally, I’m coming round to Mike Hill’s way of thinking (was credit averse, now less so) but do bear in mind that a lot of people are predicting financial armageddon pretty soon. You just need to be honest with yourself about whether you can keep up payments if things are thrice as bad as you think they might be. Also consider where you get counsel on these matters from. I don’t rely on financial advice from anyone who doesn’t have professional indemnity insurance or a yacht.

The FT comments section is pretty good, nearly as useful as the comments section in the Law Society Gazette (which is excellent for the inside scoop on most news btw). Don’t be put off by talk of £1000 a day software engineers. There’s plenty in the article and comments relevant to the vest wearing classes.

They're not free. Rather than just pay 100% of the price for one yourself, you pay 500% of the price in taxation, pay a load of politicians and civil servants to write some letters to Specsavers, and then get the same thing.

I just had the broad idea for not using a battery.[mention=33807]openspaceman[/mention] sounds like he knows more about it than I do. I’d be interested to read his component list and why limiting current is more important than limiting voltage (my panels are 250w and 35v ish open circuit so thought that would need regulation down to 12v) if he chose to post one. -

Could you do that with a 10p resistor rather than a £30 battery and a £20 charge controller? The pump would only run when the sun’s out but would be effectively automatic and simpler + cheaper. You could unplug/switch the pump off when not wanted or even just put a bit of cardboard over the panel. -

I’d get in touch with the seller and point out you’re serious. Whoever he’s agreed to sell it to probably won’t turn up. People seem to welsh on deals as a rule rather than exception these days.

Learn about the differences between being a bona fide contractor, a labour only contractor and an employee. Broadly speaking, the last two don’t need public liability insurance.

I’ve often thought that requiring people to shed the same amount of body weight as the weight of plastic they waste a year (or have any deficit surgically removed) would solve more than one problem.

A industrial chemist friend described Huel as ‘overpriced porridge and jam gruel’. Good old fashioned flapjacks are easy to make and you can put whatever in them.
