  1. Sounds like the 130 is about the best option to go for then to do with size. I still think there is something wrong with the fact I have to get a LGV licence to drive a loaded landy though!
  2. Is the 130 the high cap? Id still have to upgrade my licence to a C1 though. These '97 licence changes are annoying!
  3. Do you lot with have to take the wood chip back to the yard and return to the job for the rest very often? I love landies but it seems like they arnt the biggest load carriers...
  4. I was on a job the other day we had two 7.5 tonners and we still struggled to fit all of the days load in. Makes me wonder how people can tolerate just using transits or landys:confused1:

  8. If I remember rightly the 3 companies I spoke to charged around £1100 for just Cat C course. Im not sure if the course for a 7.5ton rigid towing a trailer over 750kg is the same as an arctic course though. If it is it would be about £2000 I think. I may be wrong about the towing with a cat C though ill wait to be corrected
  9. Been assessed and that is apparently how much the rest of my training including the test will cost. A day and a half plus test fees. Is it worth it? I Know most chippers weigh more than 750kg but is it worth getting if I will eventually go on to get C1/C +E?

  13. The chippers run off 3 point linkage dont they? So if the mog ran a chipper then it could be taxed as agri?

Thats what it says on the Atkinson Vos site, does this basically mean its similar to a tractor in that it can be driven without HGV licences? Do any of you lads do that?

  16. All good points. I suppose its not such a great idea after all. Well to be fair I knew there was a massive chance it wouldnt work I just needed to know why The problem is a HGV course is so expensive and then ill have to get C+E which would be even more. B+E licence is a lot cheaper. Seems there is no way around it!
  17. Yeah treequip thats a good idea. How much would that end up weighing do you think? Would it be fairly easy to come across or to adapt or do you know of any companies that will do it for me?
  18. Treequip thats not a bad idea actually. Wouldnt it be a bit of a delicate operation joining the engine and chipper body up though? I just had a look at a Hilux spec for an example and it says the max nose weight on the towball is 110kg. Chances are a chipper on the front of a 12-15ft trailer is going to be more than that surely? Im trying to get around the fact that you can only legally fit half a ton worth of chippings in the back of a landy 110 without going over the legal limit. I even thought about storing the chipper in the pick up bed and chipping into a trailer but obviously that would make the truck stupidly high and the centre of gravity really high too
  19. Im going to end up getting a HGV at the rate these trailers are getting bigger! Is there no way to reinforce the strength of the hitch and towbar? I take it that the issue of the weight is because of the strength of the actual chassis leading to the towbar and not the rear suspension?
  20. Oh yeah good point! So if anything the chipper would have to be over the axle and it cant be in the middle. At the back would be too much weight at the back aswell. Any ways around it?
  21. I thought of this idea for a tipping trailer and chipper combination. I cracked out good old Paint and drew it up, ignore the square wheels and the fact that none of it is symmetrical What do you think would it work? Obviously the front object is a chipper and the rear a chip box which is kind of backwards. The idea would be that it you would be able to use an every day pickup truck with no alterations but still be able to use a chipper and have somewhere big enough to store the load, that also tips. Let us know what you think
  22. Basically im wondering if I can tow a 1 ton trailer with a 4 ton truck if I have categories B+E and C1 on my licence.
  23. Treequip I understand now yeah. So basically on my Cat B licence if the vehicle alone weighs 3.3 ton and I have half a ton of chip that is over the limit. I get it now. I was un clear about dry or wet weight. I can see how a cat C1 licence is really beneficial now! So just to add a bit more confusion...if I was to upgrade my licence to C1 (vehicles 3500kg-7500kg) would a B+E licence still apply in that I can tow trailers over 750kg with a truck weighing over 3500kg? Does that make sence? probably not
  24. I dont know thats what im trying to find out my dad has done a fair bit of towing with boats and stuff and he seems to think its un-laden weight. but he has been wrong before. I suppose it makes sence to be weight including load but at the same time it could be the other aswell
  25. ''Motor vehicles with a MAM of up to 3,500 kg, no more than eight passenger seats, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg'' thats what it says on the direct gov website. Do you know if that 3,500kg is dry weight or including the load? How much would chip weigh?
