  1. £2+vat per inch? Is that measured across the widest part of the stump, diameter, cubed or what? That seems very cheap being only £48ish + vat for a 2 ft stump.
  2. So I put another thread up about deciding whether to start stump grinding at the weekends and its a very mixed response so I thought about renting one to have a go before I fork out all that money to buy one, luckily there is a stump in my garden. So does any body know where I can rent one in the Midlands area? Ive been in contact with HSS hire and they charge something like £125 a day plus VAT. Which I thought was a tad excessive. Any ideas?
  3. Cheers for all the input lads. Reading all that and talking to my uncle the possible plan would be to get a small pedestrian grinder and a trailer and do stump grinding just of a weekend or evening to put a bit more money in the bank, whilst still carrying on with my tree firm employment of a week. Does that sound plausible? I'm a bit sceptical because all my colleagues have said its very boring, expensive replacing teeth and makes one hell of a mess...one lad even said I'll be claiming on insurance every week for smashed windows or cut cables.
  4. I have more than enough ratchet straps ill just have a play with them and see what works best. Good point about the flat bed though. The only thing the tailgate might block view of is the number plate but I have a spare one ill hang from the mower.
  5. Right got you. Its just because ive got the trailer and I just wanted to see if the test is necessary because ill only be carrying a couple of mowers anyway so dont need the weight. To be honest ill probably just get the test it is alot of faff
  6. I have eye loops bolted to the bed left over from when we had a demountable camper. I will put a couple of ratchet straps over the mower and onto those.
  7. So you think its what the trailer is rated to as opposed to the net weight of the trailer itself at that point in time?
  8. The ride on mower we have will fit on my truck but only if the tailgate is down, I can still strap it down 100% securely and the wheels aren't perched on the tailgate or anything they are in the main pickup bed but it came to mind, can I get pulled for having an unsafe load?
  9. This may spark up a bit of heat but I just have a little query. I dont have a pre 97 licence so of course I realise I cant to anything over 750 kg. But it came to mind earlier, can I tow a trailer that is RATED at 2.7ton but actually only weighs say 600kg and has less than 150kg of equipment on? Making it less than 750kg still? I think that makes sence
  10. So still carrying on the trail of threads helping me decide where to go with this game. Is stump grinding a decent thing to get into? Ive heard from my uncle who is a mechanic for garden machinery and stump grinders/chippers that lot that aparently theres an alright amount of money in it for the kind of industry and theres not many people doing it either. Is it worth it or is it just a very tedious and boring way of making a huge mess? Cheers for the help
  11. Im terrible with electrics and I know its a long shot but I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to fix the lighting on my trailer. I havnt used it for ages and I come to use it and the one brake light doesnt work. So I just thought the bulb had gone. But when I came to trying the indicators they were swapped around opposite to the truck. IE the truck lights were indicating left but the trailer lights indicated right. Any suggestions? Cheers
  12. Cheers lads thanks for the input by the sounds of it its pretty good. Combined with the fact its cheaper than both the stein and the other petzl helmet so i might give it a go
  13. Ive found a course on livestock fencing which I will probably get myself on but I think I want to do a general fencing course aswell for garden fencing and the like. Anyone know of any?
  14. Heres a pic anyway
  15. Thats what I thought hodge. Looks quite smart I think Have you got any experience with the Alveo?
  16. Has anyone tried the new Husqvarna climbing helmet? I believe it is an Alveo with husky fittings. It looks quite smart any opinions on it?
  17. I'm looking to diversify a bit but the only landscaping course I can find is at pershore college which is a bit too far for me. Anybody know of any places that do it closer to Solihull? Cheers
  18. Thats what I found mate thanks for clearing it up
  19. Cheres MWArb thanks for the advice this is what I thought of doing but I didnt know if it was okay.
  20. Im just starting to use the hitch climber with a Distel but the top krab catches on the hitch and it tends not to lift up and bite onto the line after pulling the slack through. Im using it with a krab on the top and bottom holes of the hitch climber. Im just asking whether it is acceptable to position the krabs in the bottom hole and the middle hole of the HC and leaving the top un touched? Or will it end up damaging the device. Cheers for the help appreciate it:biggrin:
  21. I dont have much experience but It does seem to run faster and its lighter and smaller when coiled up. I dont like it though...it seems like whenever I pull on the prussik to start decending it wont stop until I grab the rope and re-do the knot. Being a trainee it isnt great for my confidence when I carry on coming down despite letting go lol
  22. Looking at the two together I think it might be that. The other rope is thicker so it works well with that prussik, but when used a thinner rope it started to not work as well
  23. Oh yeah sound advice that
  24. Im not sure ive never been too good at pointing out dead. I thought it because it seems even more brittle than usual for an ash, and looks very dull and lifeless. But I did just notice the leaves coming up
  25. Thanks or all the help guys. Ill try to get a loler inspector to take a look. If not I think ill leave it in the garage and not climb on it. Theres no inconsistency in the width of the rope but I just want to be sure. Ive got a Yale XTC Blaze but its pretty thin which obviously makes it hard to grip, and also seems to cause my prussik to loosen and slip down does this seem like thats the cause?
