  1. I saw the trio brake in the husky catologue it didn't really appeal to me either. It just seemed like it would really get in the way and wouldn't be practical at all. That's just me though
  2. Littletree im not self employed so i dont have that option unfortunatlyy. Not experienced enough to do that
  3. Will I need to sell each bag as 'beech fire wood' or 'ash firewood' or will it be a case of selling it as hardwood or softwood?
  4. How long will they need to be dried out for? I suppose there is no harm in getting £60 quid worth of timber just to give it a try. Ive only been told that from another employee not my boss in person so it might not be right. Also on the other hand the wood might be awful
  5. I have thought out how id do it. My boss sells the timber off cuts to us if we want them for £20 a ton. Which I presume is pretty good, although there is no guarantee to the quality/age/condition of the timber. Then I have access to a field and a truck and a place to advertise. So I am pretty sure I have thought it through a fair bit. The only thing is im not sure if the effort put in will reflect well enough compared to the money I can raise from it, and im not really sure how to sell them, for how much and what wood makes good fire wood. And all of the weathering and stuff like that.
  6. Thought of that already theres no gap in the market for that by my area
  7. Im looking into stuff to do at the weekend so I can earn a bit more money. I want to stay in the same sort of industry but diversify a little bit. So far ive had a couple of ideas including selling firewood, doing a bit of fencing, or offering saturdays/sundays to a friend who does hard landscaping. I also thought of some sort of idea involving offering my services to remove bushes or shrubs or clumps of brush and stuff like that, but im not so sure about that one. Do any of you lads have any suggestions? or comments on what ive thought of already? All help is appreciated
  8. I know I am really indecicive I end up buying things I dont want if I dont take loads of time but I did just that Ewan I tried a couple on today I ended up buying a weaver! I think they are extremely comfortable and very well balanced it even inspired alot more confidence in the tree I think its the fact that it just looks and feels alot more sturdy for me
  9. So im pretty much just as clueless as I was when I posted the thread illl have to hump it to a dealer to try some on
  10. You lads that have had weavers what size will I need if my waist is 36''? It doesnt say on the website that im looking at. I havnt decided yet im just wondering.
  11. Fair point mate yeah. Two of the climbers at work said they tried weaver and said it is really comfortable. One other tried the petzl and said it was resonable. Ill have to try and find one to give a go.
  12. I have looked on ebay but I dont know im sort of apprehensive about buying harnesses and climbing equipment second hand. Im not too keen on the cresto to be honest I have looked pretty hard and talked to the climbers at work and narrowed it down to these two harnesses.
  13. I cant decide between the two harnesses, and even then there is the possibility of getting the wide back weaver. The Weaver looks very simple very robust but doesnt look very comfortable. The petzl looks more comfortable. It may be just me but the leg straps look extremely thin on the weaver. I am a fairly big heavy bloke so it needs to me comfortable beause of the added weight on the leg straps. IE if they are thin they will dig in more. Any help? if anyone has a picture of the weaver being worn it would help. Ive seen the petzl in action so I know how it sits. Help please
  14. Does anybody know what the advantages (if any) of the SRT version of the petzl are? I can see the difference in the harness but what physical differences would there be?
  15. Without sounding cheeky lol what sort of size are you? Just im a bigger lad so I want a harness that would accept me comfortably
  16. I saw that but I didnt notice it was more of a seat harness. That looks like quite a comfortable harness although it looks like it would limit movement in the tree? Specifically limiting the width the climber can move their legs outwards?
  17. I currently have a Petzl Navaho sit which ive found in my opinion to be quite uncomfortable. It seems as though because the front D ring is mainly coming from the waist strap the pressure from the climbing line isnt evenly distributed between the waist and legs. It may be just me but what harnesses are good for the bigger climbers? Preferably towards the bottom of the price list aswell because im not actually a climber yet im just getting practise in at the moment. Ta very much
  18. Bit late now oh well ill have to wear them in a bit only ground work at the minute so nothing dramatic is needed. Ive got No Risk boots aswell do you lot think of them? Do you know them?
  19. I (or my employer) brought some Stihl Hiflex type A trousers. I tried them on and mobility is 100% fine but they look too tight and a bit stupid to be honest. I was talking to a climber and he said the Hiflex trousers are notoriously tight and clingy. If I go up to the next size so they look less tight will they be too big? Shall I just ask to get a different brand of trousers?
  20. I looked at modern arboriculture, it may not be out dated but it certainly seems over priced! Bob watsons book seems like a good all rounder for less money
  21. Is that quite specific steve? It seems to be by looking on amazon. What do you think of this one? [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trees-Management-Cultivation-Biology-Comprehensive/dp/1861268858]Trees: Their Use, Management, Cultivation and Biology, A Comprehensive Guide: Amazon.co.uk: Bob Watson: Books[/ame]
  22. As the title says ive got a tree identification book but im looking at getting one to do with growth, disease stuff like that. Ive had a look at a few but alot of them seem too specific I want something general. I have had a look at 'tree basics' by Alex Shigo but it looks fairly out dated? Im not sure really. Any opinions?
  23. I dont know about you tree boy but ive read through this post and its helped me alot! Im just getting into a bit of practising climbing, not being officially trained but bit of small practise with a mate. I love the rush but at the minute 20 foot is as high as I can get without starting to wobble. Inspirational thread though unlike most useless threads on this site
  24. God all that trying get my head around getting a lorry licence to drive a landy and I was just reading the weights wrong! I thought 3050kg was the empty weight. Thinking about it thats ridiculously heavy oh well good news all round Landys not tow so well then or is it just because of the weight in the back and the size of the trailer?
  25. Hold on I think I got that wrong. Im looking at the landrover website and it says, for the heavy duty 110 high cap, the gross vehicle weight is 3500kg. Is that including the apparent maximum payload of 1516kg? So I could drive a fully loaded one of these on a B licence as long as I stick to the weights landrover stated?
