    Hi we have a Kubota L3250 4wd ,easy to manover as its just 5 foot wide,i think its 42hp, pulls well, runs on next to nothing i.e 3 days powering a 4.2 tonne winch £12 of diesel,we all so use a 2 tonne forwarding trailer behind it again 5 foot wide which allows us to manover about in tight spaces,very capable little tractor and well worth thinking about but they demand high prices thats if you can find ONE took me best part of 5 monthes to find ours. hope this helps.

    Hi took my dad for his 70th birthday along with 2 other guys about 4 years ago very interesting place well worth any one traveling to if you are interested in this sort of thing,if it had been up to my dad and his mate we would of still been there now i thought we where never going to get home, 2 hours you say, 5 1/2 hours and 5 cups of tea later.

    Stihl ms362 all the way on that 1 for me as said before stihl may be sligtly slower but dont see the workshop as often as 1 of my lads husky.

    read most of the replys and some good points put forward,i have 35 years expierence with chainsaws and use 1 or 2 evrey working day from a ms 241 to a ms 660 i have all ground based NPTC certificates (all up to date) from cross cutting logs to multiple wind blown i fell trees from 6" to about 5 foot in diameter and have done for many years now, so does this make me a COWBOY as i have not got a climbing certificate ??? there are a lot of things in life that need to be addressed and sorted out but unfortunally it will never happen and buying chainsaws is ONE of them, it sounds to me that you have had a job or two pinched by the traveling com and have a axe to grind. OR DO YOU NEED CLIMBING CERTIFICATE TO BUY ONE OF THEM THESE DAYS.

    Hi we are looking for 2 people to join our team on a part time basis, we are a small forestry company based in the northwest of england (lancs) we are currently felling and extracting infected larch and wind blown stitka spruce, the position would suit some one who is doing a collage course and looking to gain some experience, must have own transport, ppe and min cs30/31 chainsaw ticket, work will comence in jan 2015, if any body interested please phone Gary on 07763013024,many thanks.

    Hi we fell,extract and sell timber as far as i am concerned the sooner its on a wagon and down that road to who ever is buying it the better it is for my pocket, we dont have timber lying about for monthes if its been at road side for a month its been there along time,if we are dealing with dead wood i.e some windblown which would be lighter its more per tonne as the firewood guy would have less drying time and would get a faster turn round on his money.

    Oh so me and my small team are rare,all we do is hand cut where the harvester cant get like on steep banks and yes it is hard going,we have had a few lads that have come and gone in very short time, 1 very fit and able young lad abt 22ish lasted till 3pm had to go home not feeling well,then later said there was no way on earth that he would ever keep up with us and watching craig (my main cutter) made him dizzy.i have worked with arb lads in the past at private houses and it is not for me sorry but to much time spent looking up trees, give me a saw and 50 stika,larch or duggie fir and i am happy as a pig in s**t.

    Hi been running a 241 with 14" bar and 325 chain sice feb this year in forestry,i have found it to be a light, revey very nimmble saw that you can fell and snedd all day with and it is well on top of its job,it is very kind on the arms as they dont feel like they are going to explode at the end of the day and its not bad on fuel either,i have compared this saw to my 260 s and find it to be much better to use and handle ok its not been flogged to death yet but has done several weeks where it has been run 7-8 hrs a day felling and snedding larch and spruce,i would not think twice about buying another .

    Hi can i just say this, there is an old saying that i think is very true if its not broken dont fix it ? if the stove has been ok since 1990 and worked fine WHY does in now need a flue liner ? Mine is of simular age and fitted the same way and works as good today as it did the day we fitted it.

    Hi we use them and have done now for about 4 years only trashed one out of about 100 and that was my fault,wood seems to season faster in them than it does in a stack in a shed,we stack ours 3 high as thats as far as our forks will lift,i think they are a easy way to store logs and we seem to get more in the space available,they are easy to tip once you get the knack of it, we have a constant supply of them and currently have about 40 for sale,hope this helps

    hi when you say large ash coppice how big is large ? as coppice to me meens small trees i.e 250-300mm in die,what i would call large ash are trees that are 500mm + dbh the above 2 disscriptions make such a difference to production out puts the small trees i would expect to put 10-15 tonne on the ground a day,the big trees 25-30 tonne. may be if you added more detail to your question we could help you out more.

    hi, just been through all this small timber trailer with 3.6mtr crane and quad,if your ground you intend to work is relativly flat and dry ok but if its got inclines and slightly damp forget it,i rolled my trailer 4 times in one afternoon (back to the drawing board) and hydrostatic compact tractors are not that good in forestry work either,i have just spent a small fortune on what i think is a fairly good set up 1.5 tonne trailer now widened to increase stabilaty and uprated to 2 tonne and pulled by a kubota 40hp 4wd tractor all works well at the moment but lets see what happens when we get some rain and it gets sticky as its pulling up a 30-35 degree hillside .

    Hi all just reading your replies S,P is right it is hard graft, when we started in jan i used to smoke i DONT now and my thighs are now solid its done me the world of good and the best thing about it i love it, job satisfaction i think they call it as money is not every thing in life and 7-800 quid a week is not that bad is it? we have just accepted another 9 monthes work doing simular thing but we can buy the timber this time

    Hi been sorting some infected larch out on some simulare ground, ringbarked some and felled others, no snedding or cutting to lengh just brash of bottom 5 or 6 foot and fell as they are to be winched of next spring and we where getting £1.50 a tree, we averaged about 100-110 trees each a day,best day we had, one man brashing one man felling total 255 trees for the day 8 till 4.30pm.

    Hi all, as bald eagle stated may be from ribblehead,but more than likely from crainlarich at the top of loch lomond as there is 2 trains a day come down the west coast line past our house and 9 out of 10 of them belong to UPM Tilhill and will either be going to shotton paper for news print or cronaspan for chip.

    Hi the NPROS and Lantra tickets are not reconissed by some of the bigger forestry co and the forestry commision will only accept NPTC CITY AND GUILDS and get him to do cs30/31 together as it works out cheaper,just put 2 of my ladds through cs30/31 for £425 each.

    hi just done a cs32 (large tree) ticket today that was a NPTC (city & guilds) top ticket and the only ones to have, for future ref if your guy leaves and goes in to forestry work the only tickets the fc and some other forestry co accept are NPTC They wont accept lantra or your NPROS so he would have to do it again,and if he does cs30/31 together it will be cheaper than doing them seperatly ,just got 1 of my lads through his cs30/31 for £425 as our next job is on a fc site,hope this of help to you.

    hi pete we are a team of 2/3 subing to a large forestry co and we have had the same questions asked ppe,first aid ,and spill kit fortunally they supplyed a spill kit,all they are are absorbent mats approx 300mm x 450mm all we do is fold one up put in poly bag and staple the top over so it does not get wet and put it in your bag then its there if you need it,but talking to anothere team and they used puppy training pads from pets at home
