  1. Is that for plant or climbing kit too Mark ? I have yet another pair of almost new boots I don’t get on with and have to sell [emoji849]
  2. Does anyone know of an arb specific group where you can buy or sell second hand items that isn’t e bay ?
  3. I clearly must be…….or you’re not explaining yourself adequately? You seem to display a certain recidivist attitude
  4. Could you expand on this ?
  5. I think it’s Hindu Kush …..tell me….do they play a lot of trance music ? Whatever you do, do not eat the ruby appendages on the leaf stem….those extrafloral nectaries could see your whole world expand/deteriorate in equal measure within an evening 🥸
  6. Why the “Strictly” no smoker ? Is it because they want to waste 10 minutes every hour smoking , or because it tempts you back to the dark side of temptation ? [emoji23] (Ps I’m not a smoker and I’m not knocking you for one second my friend, your company…your rules Sir )
  7. Warwickshire. Seeing dead Scots everywhere . Usually 20-50 year old specimens . I have them locally in a stand in the village and then 4 miles away have taken half a dozen out in a garden and now these older and larger ones 10 miles away . We’re losing trees left right and centre of all species aren’t we [emoji853]
  8. Thank you to everyone who recently helped and diagnosed my customers Scots Pine deaths. We are now tasked with removing the dead and dying blocks in the wood which we plan to burn, but we will need to chip the other shelterbelt that is adjacent to the road . My question is, what is the thinking about chipping to waste where you have a fungal pathogen present ? A total no no or a potential option ? Thank you in advance and well done Stubby for your lead and diagnosis
  9. I’m afraid alas I think it is. Felled one over in the wood and whilst the banding isn’t distinct , there’s definitely small discolouration that is mottled along the needles in the same pattern as Red Band Needle. Also, the way they are dying is identical to that described in the research papers . Thank you very much Stubbers [emoji1319][emoji1307]
  10. No signs of Beetle thankfully Mark
  11. Did you pass your CS33 ? 🧐
  12. I’d say not as there are plenty of trees unaffected nearby in fine vigour
  13. After walking through the wood on the opposite side of the lake, there now seems to be dozens of dead Scots pine. I think I’ll need to climb one when we’re back working next week and look at the foliage . I guess this rules out the lawn treatment theory . Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  14. Hi Rich, the inside of the bark more so and sheds easily, despite the crown not being quite dead .
  15. I’m back there Sunday so I’ll look at some of the remaining moribund trees for signs. Thank you Stubby
  16. It reads that rarely does the Beetle attack Pine in this country. I remember felling trees with this Beetle over 10 years ago, and the beetles’ presence was quite evident , but I guess that could have been just that particular infestation perhaps
  17. I’m not sure this could apply due to the slow and consecutive death rate over a few years.
  18. We’re in the Midlands , Warwickshire, so possibly too far up for that ?
  19. Which beetle Mark, so as I can further investigate ?
  20. Thank you for your reply. It’s on a clay soil , in the middle of a manicured lawn, on raised ground which falls away to a lake. They have all looked in perfect health until approximately 3 years ago when the first one went .
  21. Any ideas of what might be picking off a small stand of semi mature Scots pine in the middle of a long standing customers lawn/estate. I thought Armillaria as I’ve witnessed it invade specimens in sequence and kill them over a slow time frame many times before…..but there are never any fruiting bodies on this stand , nor any white mycelium or bootlace under the bark. The trees in question are not under any others stresses whatsoever . What am I missing ? I’m seeing huge amounts of Scots Pine locally very quickly becoming moribund . I think I’m clearly missing something.. hope you can assist Note the blueing ….no metal work in the tree at all
  22. I think after threatening with legal action, I would also assure your neighbour that you will do everything in your power to encourage, nurture and supplementary plant to raise the hedge area to 25’ over time if your hedge is touched without your consent . See how he likes dem apples/Leylandii/beech trees etc
  23. By jingo I think I’ve found your solution John….. (Might need to allow for VAT and import but you won’t even have to leave the ground !)
  24. Surely it depends on how the failure of the tree has occurred? If it was foreseeable due to fungal infection, structural defect etc then I’d say there may be a case against the trees owner, but if the worst winds for 30 years ripped off a perfectly healthy limb then I think you’d be struggling to point blame ?
