  1. I'm 42 and wish if bought one a long time ago. I only use long reach hedge cutters and think I should have bought the Arborist model. Still, it was money seriously well spent.
  2. Hi Ted I'm not surprised the piston has failed. When you think about the number of cycles per day that it is subjected to........ It's the inside piston on the Landscape model.
  3. Thanks. I'll be ordering a pile of stuff on Monday anyway so the piston will get added.
  4. This is what they're using in America now. I envisage problems in the village High Street trees though! https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=11138
  5. Personally, 20ft with any degree of accuracy. Any hand throw at a tree over 22ft tall results in broken roof tiles or dented car roofs, in neighbouring property. I have a BigShot with an archery trigger. The ultimate aid for the incompetent climber. I live in England too. X
  6. It's just blunt. Typical hire machine. With sharp blades, anvil and rollers it would be fine.
  7. Oh here we go again! Look out Arb123, Doobin's gonna be all over this because your question isn't ten pages of extreme detail with a Method Statement and Risk Assessment. Hahaha!
  8. Just don't use the bar that has a brown streak on it! Hahaha!
  9. The seal on the gas piston on my ELH had just failed. Has anyone changed the seal it is it easier to but a new piston? If so, where from? Thanks.
  10. Solent Body Builders are excellent on service, product and price. I realise they're not in the Midlands.
  11. Christ, so glad I don't have any trees like that coming up! I hate chogging down fat stems. It's just a world of discomfort.
  12. I've got two girl groundies working for me now and they are both better than most of the men that have worked for me. Fact! I'll sign off now before I comment on the second part of your post.
  13. Presumably it's a large ring but what's the ring for? I mean, why not just have a spliced eye? I'm guessing it's for the base anchor but I always set my base or top tie anchor so that my tail is the correct length. Just to save hauling a long tail through the tree.
  14. I didn't take it that way:001_smile: What type and length of rope are you on these days? Are you still on the Unicender? Thanks.
  15. Thanks Dan. Don't you prefer a top tie so that you can have a higher TIP?
  16. I doubt any if any use a loathing anchor on a doubled rope system. Stretchier rope is favoured which would mean a very bouncy system. The concern about a knot getting stuck is valid but could be avoided by better routing, most of the time. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  17. I need someone on Wednesday for a hedge cutting job in Reigate. Experience essential. Call me on 078343 414271 if you're game. Thanks Al. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  18. Exactly the same for me. However, the option to be lowered from the ground just makes me think, should we all be doing it as standard practice? If we do it for SRT then there is no reason why the DdRT climbers don't do exactly the same. A climbing system that can be lowered from the ground means that a rescue can be carried out much quicker than another climber getting the gear on then climbing the tree (whilst brickin it!). It's also a less gear intensive option.
  19. There are two reasons I don't work off a base anchor. 1. It adds a lot of stretch into the system and is a hassle when I take my weight the rope when climbing up branches. 2. Fear of cutting the static side. I've nearly done it twice! What are your thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  20. In light of a recent fall by a climber in America, I thought it may be prudent to revisit this thread. Oddly, I was thinking a lot about lowerable systems during the last few days. So, since this thread was created, has anyone evolved their system and made improvements? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  21. She allowed you to take a photo of her upon meeting?! She looks startled! Run for the hills! 😂😂 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  22. Ok, start with: 1: How long do you think it will take. 2: What are your costs? 3: How much profit do you want to make? 4: Double the answer to question 3 because it will take longer and cost you more than you think. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  23. Since getting starting on SRT, and getting proficient at it, I've used DDrT a few times because I thought it would be easier in that case. I was surprised every time to find it a total nightmare. This was just because by muscle memory and brain had adapted to the single line technique. That's just my experience, I'm not saying it's the law so don't start arguing.
  24. Oh yeah, I'd forgotten all that. Those were good tests and videos. I still think it's not a good set up. None of us use it now so I think that says it all.
