  1. Thank you HoYC, Your last line is the essence of the issue; "Combine that with a modern liberal snowflake policy that refuses to punish anyone" As Talmud apparently said; "Those who are kind to the cruel are being cruel to the kind" Still absolutely true. Any society can only function, if all members, either voluntarily, or if not voluntarily, under some kind of duress, or real threat of punishment, adhere to the rules that govern the society. This will obviously cause some, but well deserved, suffering, but only to those who choose to ignore the rules. regards marcus
  2. Except the only cure for our indigenous brand new but slum estates, is to nuke them complete, with residents therein. Any and all previous attempts to relocate so-called families* from problem neighbourhoods to better neighbourhoods, to "give them a chance" has merely resulted in the rapid slumming down of these previously unpolluted neighbourhoods. That is how pollution works. *And of course the "family" unit is sacrosanct, no matter how absolutly criminally dysfunctional individuals within the unit are, or the pervasive influence they have on those living with them. imho based on 50 years worth of N I observations.
  3. How very, very boring from a spectator perspective, re the two reasoned posts above. Yawn. mth
  4. My wife, still speaks highly of the Salvation Army, from memories of her Glasgow childhood, when some of the neighbours/distant relations used to take her to some of their events. Essentially, by the people for the people, organised from within the communities that needed the help, by those that could. And "hands on". This may have changed in the 40 years since. In respect of the current fad for food banks, far better to organise a soup-kitchen, using church halls, or bingo halls, and actually feed the people, and give them a chance to speak. Hey it might even help to encourage some of them to learn to cook, the lack of this skill directly contributing to so-called food poverty.
  5. What if I were extremely insensitive and said, that the root of the problem lies in 1st world aid keeping all those babies, infants and children alive, but not providing a future for them, or their parents, or their counteries. And then keeping the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th generation of resultant babies alive, born from each artifically kept alive previous generation. So, is it really something to take pride in, this perpetual do-gooder meddling? just a thought mth Edit Re Aid packages, someone, probably a bored Eurocrat, counted up all the millions, from all sources, that were pumped into a particular Italian region, after a severe earthquake in the 1980's, which region was still not rebuilt 20-25 years later, it amounted to (for the sake of a figure) about 100,000 Euro per head of population. So across a family of 4 = 400,000 Euro, the inhabitants of this area should have been living in Palaces and driving MB/BMW's But they were not. So? Where did the money go? Ditto for Sir Bob winning the slander/libel case which was based on someone stating the absolute truth, that some proportion of Sir Bob's Band Aid money HAD to be syphoned off by warlords. Not so, apparently. Scheesh.
  6. Being retired I might like to take a look at some other Forestry related show (as well as the APF) this year. So , whats out there? Marcus
  7. Since, presumably, it is impossible for the professional dog walkers to lift multiple dog craps, while keeping control of multiple other crapping dogs. So, in respect of this issue, a bit of targeted policing of the already extant Park bylaws, with fines, and hey seize the dogs, until the fines are paid if needs be, should address this issue. Impromptu concerts = noise pollution issues. etc etc Anyway, just recently the Mrs. was reminiscing about the Glasgow Parks of her youth, with the ever-present omnipotent "Parkie", who ran a tight ship. Our local "Common", always known as the "Fairhill" now under Council ownership, was and is a wonderfully riverside located village centre site, utilized as; (i) The local Loyalist bonfire site with associated dumping, vandalism, staggering amounts of litter and antisocial behavouir, for 3 months of the year leading up to the Twelth. The other 9 months it is merely a convenient dumping ground for the locals, especially on the riverbank. Why are "people", in general such animals, with respect to public lands that they do not own. mth
  8. My wander lead control packed up today, and I always intended to get myself a radio remote. Aware of Lodar and found Tyro. What else is out there? With my Pull-to-Stop 1984 David Brown, I will settle for the basic winch controls. cheers marcus
  9. I like that set-up, reach out, snick off tree, and place directly on the trailer, though the farmers son in me (i.e. regardless of any H&S implications) would be thinking best(i.e. most efficient) with remote control and being used by a ground based chainsaw wielder, i.e. all cutting with a straight back. A second person with the chainsaw would be the obvious answer, but not as safe, or cost effective. Regardless of my musings. Enjoy your new toy/tool. mth
  10. Sounds like you are at risk of cutting yer cock off spud . . .
  11. But if my unskilled welding, on dirty rusty steel, results in big gobs being thrown off, that is most probably splatter! A professional welder will be producing spatter = small fine globules.
  12. Well "my" tale(or parable?) was much more succinct, and conveyed exactly the same wisdom! cheers mth P.S. I am quite sure, in the days of the Egyptian Pharaohs, such tales were told of Chariot repair specialists! Or in cave man days, stone wheel repair specialists! Possibly, even, before the wheel was invented, blunt instrument repair specialists!
  13. Like a very old cartoon, from 50 odd years ago, a Peanut type character, who was having troubles with his Go-cart, took it to the local Go-cart repair specialist, a dishevelled looking kid, who quoted Peanut a sum, let us say £1.00 (and 50 year ago, that was serious money to a child) to effect a repair. Peanut agreed. Said specialist then instantly whacked the Go-cart with a hammer, stated it was fixed, and held out his hand for payment . . . Peanut squalked; "£1.00 to hit it with a hammer, I could do that myself!" Specialist sagely replied, "the £1.00 charge was for knowing where and how to hit it" A whole lot of truth was contained in that cartoon. mth
  14. Well, I collected my wee 026 this afternoon, paid the princely sum of £25.00, and asked what the issue had been. A split in the rubber hose that sucks the fuel from the tank, he fished it outta the bin and showed me. I surmise the 25mm-32mm long split allowed the hose to collapse when "sucking diesel" so-to-speak. I had asked about the fuel lines, because I figgered it was a fuel starvation issue, when speaking with the previous person, who had 3 "goes" at fixing the problem, and was assured the fuel lines were good. Not yet tried the saw out as too-bloody-cold-out today. Fingers crossed. mth
  15. Sniff! Depends which version o the English Language one spakes I do suppose! Anyway see; https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=spatter+definition&oq=spatter&aqs=chrome.3.69i57j0l5.5780j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 It appears the 2 words are interchangable.
  16. Fully aware of this idea, and I might yet re-consider it, BUT! , no free lunches, the heat going into the dwelling house MUST pull down the water temp in the pond/lake, which I dont imagine I want, since I wish to encourage wildlife in and around the pond. Odd, but true. mth
  17. Why not use this moist warm air to drive any commercially available (and grant aided?) air source heat pump, for the double-win.
  18. Eggs, Re my constant quoting/questioning "contracts", & and your dogged "no contract" replies/statements, Ernesto has enlightened one of us; I.e., in fact there is a Contract, however it is not a Contract of Employment, rather a (signed, presumably) Contractural Obligation to deliver a service, which at law is probably a more binding Document, in terms of financial penalties. Like wot I also stated, re the financial penalties. Scheesh
  19. If there was/is no contract, how do they, the Employer, enforce the fines?, especially to the tune of £1500.00, presuming the staff are paid weekly. Regardless gents, my take on this "story" is based on the shite I used to read in our local papers 20 year ago, where some poor wee innocent Mr./Mrs./Mizz suffered some dreadful calamity at the hands of Business/Government/NHS. Which story, from good local knowledge one knew to be essentially lies, or at least very very "BIGGED UP". A whole lot like the dreadful life threatening injuries suffered in simple 5mph rear end traffic shunts, when someone else's insurance is paying. Marcus, the somewhat cynical hat.
  20. Erm, presumably this is all in the Contract of Employment one signed? I actually, to some extent sympathise with the Employer, purely based on my Local Government experience, and the constant flagrant abuse of the very generous sickness benefits afforded to all staff. Who, by and large, proper ripped the arse outta it, simply because they could. Btw. the employer will have contractural obligations to fufill, no doubt with cost penalties attatched. So? Who pays? mth
  21. Neither we, nor Morton's could afford colour, (from recall, the flour bags had black text on a white background) Touche!
  22. Eggs, Growing up on a small farm, doing without many things I saw other children with, sleeping between sheets sewn together from Morton's flourbags, and being reared to know the value of a hard honestly earned pound, was what formed my conservative political views, well that and the Red Robbo/British Leyland/Arthur Scargill strike struck 1970's, which kinda confirmed the essential truth of my youthful notions. 32 years spent in Local Government, with a small %age of incompetent uncaring *unsackable staff, who blight the workplace and eventually their collagues, did nothing to change my *political opinions. *unsackable due to Unions and weak senior management. mth
  23. Spud, pm just sent, cheers Marcus
  24. Spud, Funny enough I toyed with the notion of sending the wee 026 to you to "fettle", before my recent issues, but, hey! for cutting a wheen o sticks, a bit OTT.( Not unlike the brand new 520mm wide tyres on the knackered D Brown tractor) I will speak to the local guy tomorrow, a final time, and explain what transpired re the "stale" fuel. Many thanks Marcus
