  1. I got into Johnny Hiland years ago- he’s up there with the best of them IMO, pretty good considering he’s certified blind.

  3. Is that your dream guitar then Stubby? Iv just never been able to feel the love for them- admittedly I have never owned one only fiddled on one here and there- lovely to play as with most Gibson’s but I simply don’t like the look of them (same with rickenbcker). I’m more or a PRS custom 24 (my dream guitar) man, iv always fancied a thinline tele too with P90s- controversial, but that’s me!
  4. I havnt read the whole thread so I’m sure this has been mentioned, but tri-axle will go across fields better. I have a 3.5t plant trailer and it has the narrower tyres and only dual axles (I wanted maximum payload) but it’s a nightmare when loaded up with the digger and I want to go slightly off road accross a field for example- just sinks like a stone, Landy can’t then pull it and I have to unload it anyway and smooth the ruts over. Get a tri axle on the wider tyres they do would be my advice.

  6. I don’t think he’s moaning- just trying to find a tactile way of turning down jobs that simply don’t interest him. What do you say to jobs you don’t want to get jnvolved in?
  7. I completely relate to this, and find the same problem myself. I live in a rural area where word of mouth spreads quickly, good or bad. I don’t like turning work down but at the same time some jobs are just not worth the hassle no matter how much money is on them. Personally I’d sooner be doing the hassle free jobs that I enjoy for less money than jobs that require extensive planning, complicated quote preparing etc and still end up being a ball ache when actually doing it. Fencing around domestic properties I find is almost the worst- nearly always hassle with utilities/concrete, odd ball situations to deal with that absorb a huge amount of time. if you are booked up anyway just say that you have too much work on at the moment to be considering other works at this time- trying to scope the job out as much as you can on the phone is usually best and ten you can save yourself the journey if it doesn’t sound like something you want to get involved in.

  10. I agree- it’s unlikely a 78 year old is going to be able to physically restrain a burglar let alone two- no doubt he used whatever force necessary to protect his wife and home- there should be no protection for the criminal in cases like this.
  11. No sorry, it’s cost best part of 4K for a new chassis to be fitted if you had it done by someone. Inevitably there will need to be other stuff done at the same time. Mark Kelly’s told me to expect upto £5k if I wanted to get mine done. That’s included VAT..Once you had a new chassis on I’d reckon you’d get north of £8k for it perhaps more than 10 if the bodywork etc is all straight and tidy. Not sure what you’d get for it now- perhaps between 3-5 if the chassis is shot- the low mileage will help. It might be a case of if you are going to sell now- just get it welded up and roadworthy. If you were going to keep it for investments sake it would be well worth getting a new chassis on it.
  12. Sorry to hear that Eggs. It’s sometimes hard for people who don’t have dogs to really appreciate how much of a hole they leave when they go, remember the good times. We lost our beloved collie back at Christmas- he drove us round the bend but still get sad and miss him like mad.
  13. Didn’t you post a thread recently about retirement/pensions etc? Heres your answer- get her re-chassised, pop her in a nice shed with a rug over it and sell it when you retire- probably be worth a small fortune by then. I think a 90, 300tdi will be where the money is with Landys in 10+ years time.

Hi Beau, I’d definitely consider it if the front of the que don’t want it! its an R isn’t it, 300tdi, same as mine, would make a superb backup/restoration project. interstingly just taken my Landy back from Mark Kelly’s. The chap who does all his welding is Les Watson who has his workshop on Lakeside in Tavy- you may already know him but did a superb job of welding up my chassis the other day. Mark doesn’t do much of his own welding anymore, sends it to Les. In all honesty, I reckon it would make good money if it was sold on EBay. With a new Chassis on at £4K or so it’d be a very desirable Landy.
  15. I disagree with all the above Beau. If it’s the Landy I’m thinking off, it’s worth £1000 and should be sold immediately to me before it rusts away.
  16. I agree. To clarify I don’t think that Kubota kx121 I linked to is worth 21k. The bucket linkage should not be in that state at 4000hrs. Mind you you could say the same for owner operator who upgrades every 3 years. They don’t mind putting it through it’s paces as long as they keep the bodywork sound. Its all a gamble buying used, just a case of weighing up the risks!
  17. Here she is when I first got it last year- 10 year old digger with original paint job- absolutely immaculate. It had depreciated a lot due to age but essentially was as good as buying a next to new. Find of the century.
  18. Perhaps unjustified but 4000+ hours on a 4 ton machine scarea me a little. Maybe. I used to think that too- but now realise it’s entirely how it’s been locked after and what kind of work it’s been on. There was a Takeuchi TB145 on Mascus the other day showing 14500hrs and a groundworks contractor down here has a Kubota u50 with 11000 hrs on it and still in impeccable condition. These machines are perfectly capable of doing high hours if looked after right. My old Takeuchi 125 did 5000hrs and was still mint to operate- I only sold because i found a barn find TB125 that had only done 1000hrs and was more or less in ex demo condition despite being 10yrs old- couldnt let someone else have that!

I think they wanted 21k ex vat, it had 4000hrs and really needed the bucket linkage re-doing- other than that tidy machine. However I felt they were asking too much for it and it seems everyone else feels the same as it’s still on their hire fleet and had not sold yet.
  20. Are you going to be towing this with the Same? Last year I was looking at purchasing a bigger machine, still am but I tried a Kubota kx121-3 which is a genuine 4 tonner with conventional tail swing. I thought it was a really nice size myself- it felt nearer a 5 ton really but not too much of a lump to tow around with attachments etc if your planning on using your tractor. the drawback is there doesn’t seem to be masses for sale used.

I think in an ideal world (my longer term plan) is to have a 1.5t for the fiddly little jobs and one day jobs, and a larger 5-7t machine for bigger sites and longer term jobs, I reckon I’d have all my bases covered with those 2, but for now the 2.8t offers some kind of middle ground, best of both worlds but at times worst of both too. no such thing as a perfect machine size.... is there..?
  22. Yeah I tend to think like that too. But i suppose if your running a 7.5 ton truck then that kobelco and tak is more or less the max your going to fit on weight wise with a handful of attachments so makes for quite a handy setup.
  23. I know someone who runs a flail on his 3 ton Kubota, I was comparing hydraulic specs with my tak and noticed the Kubota has a much smaller hydraulic tank in comparison, less than half the size. The TB125 tank is bigger than the 6 ton Kubota even. This seems strange but I’m hoping a bigger tank reservoir can only be a good thing in this application (flailing)
  24. Do any of you think it puts the machine pumps under any particular stress compared with say normal digger operations- ie the oil getting very hot etc?
  25. That’s pretty impressive for a 3 tonner. Do I recall you have had to tweak your pump somehow to run the flail better. id be interested to know which model flail that is. thanks.
