  1. I realise there are other threads on this but not entirely the informatipon im after. I have a list as long as my arm of various bits of welding to do and plenty of projects I want to undertake, No welding experiance, but I don't want to rely on others to do my welding plus Iv got plenty of time and space to practise getting good at it so the question is.. Arc or Mig? I want to weld up to around 10mm comfortably but also be able to do Landy chassis etc. And any recommendations of a good welding machine. Im a firm believer in buy cheap, buy twice so I want as good as I can get for upto £600. Thanks in advance P.S I won't be doing really thin stuff like bodywork, mostly thicker stuff, Trailers, diggers etc
  2. nice stuff. although i think if i was in your position id swap the 6 inch for a tracked one behind the landy so you can really go anywhere.
  3. Do they not charge you everytime you drop a cheque in, I realise they have a free banking period but this only lasts two years, Hsbc would be chargeing me around £25 per month with all their charges if I wasn't on the free banking period. £300 a year:thumbdown:
  4. Sure, but why does your avatar have an extremely large bump on her left arm?
  5. The way I see it there is no law saying you have to have a buisness account and therefore they cant fine you or anything if they find out your using your personal acc, they'll just tell you you cant. If I were you I would just crack on with the personal acc untill they kick up a fuss, then deal with it then.
  6. Yes thats how I look at buying things too, but someone who could potentially get the VAT back would actually get a better deal going for a more expensive trailer and get 20% back whereas folk who arnt VAT reg would get a better deal going for my trailer.
  7. I would indeed but as Skyhuck says, anyone about to part with a couple of grand would probably do fairly extensive research into how much something was worth and therefore would know that really they were paying part of the VAT i originally paid.
  8. No, there doesn't seem to be much point if your a sole trader and not limited, particularly i suppose if your company name is your own name so the cheques are made out to your personal account.
  9. Right I see, Thanks for clearing that up. Obviously my selling it would only benfit someone who wasn't Vat reg then.
  10. OK thanks, seems annoying tho as the VAT (£403 in this case) I paid I won't ever see again so esentially I brought a trailer and now im selling it, who ever buys it will be getting an almost new trailer without having to pay the VAT on it.
  11. I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction, I am selling my Ifor trailer which i brought brand new two years ago with VAT obviously, Now when I sell it do i add VAT to the price or not? Im not VAT registered. any help would be appriciated. Thanks
  12. Bloke I used to work for had a big toolbox mounted on the bumper of his mog, you could get 4 saws in plus two climbing kits and room left over. would be ideal for this mog leaving more room for chip box capacity.
  13. nice compact unit, but have to agree with that toolbox, i think you would have to keep a few yellow pages on standby.
  14. You sound like a decent boss, it pays you in the long run to sort your staff out every now and again, A happy workforce= a proactive workforce in my opinion:001_smile:
  15. Wham- Last christmas. Pathetic I know but i seem to have it in my head on and off all year round so it must be doing something for me!
  16. yes and especially if you can get some of your customers to pay you online it mixes things up a bit so they can't tell whats what.
  17. Sorry to be a bit thick but i fail to see the difference, PTO winch is direct drive to the winch im guessing? Yep as you say if a hydraulic winch lasts ten years plus it'l work out far cheaper then having to buy several electric ones in that time. My mate has an electric one we use, I always wonder on long pulls how long it can go on before it overheats or water gets into it etc.
  18. Thats fair enough but it irritates me that if your employed you don't get charged every time your boss pays you into a personal acc, so why should i have to pay everytime i put a chque in or withdraw or whatever. they stink.
  19. Iv had a buisness acc for two years with hsbc and can't see any benefits at all and now the free banking period is coming to an end im considering finishing it, don't want a penny of my hard earned going to them if i can help it. Im mostly a sole trader so i reckon il get away without one really. I can see why larger companies with full time staff would benefit from them tho.
  20. why cant we just have two personal accounts one for buisness and one for pleasure, if they were with different banks nobody would know surely. And anyway they cant force it.
  21. Is that a film? or are you just saying that to someone:001_huh:
  22. so it sounds like it would be best if i just concentrated on winching rather than driving other implements of it to keep things simple, any particular winches recommended? im looking at the superwinch h14w, its about £1200, plus winch cable, pto conversion, fairlead rollers etc, probably £2000 would cover it i think.
  23. ok, so it sounds like transfer PTO is the way to go, where do you position the oil reservoir? or is it attched to the pump? Iv no experiance of pto winches etc on landies so am a bit confused by it all, my understanding is that I need the pump which will attach to the transfer box (i get that bit) then i will obviously need a oil reservoir for it, then is it just a matter of having a winch with quick disconnectors that'll just plug into the PTO pump. is there anything iv missed? cheers for the help
