  1. Elfinwood saws on here has one and rates it pretty highly
  2. I think you'll find you can get a good zetor for that money- good value and solid tractors albeit basic. Something like a 7341
  3. OK now I'm confused. The initial question has absolutely nothing to do with the poll!
  4. You'll spend the next four years establishing yourself thinking everything is a struggle, but you learn as you go along really in terms of running a buisness, just do some research on relevant insurance/tax self assessment and carefully advertising (ie avoid paying 600 quid to yell.com for an advert that may attract only people wanting a job), parish mags are good advertising sources. And just build and look after your customers and the rest will be history
  5. P.s- I hope someone has a clue what im on about!
  6. Fair play to all you poets, but every time I here someones poetry I think of David Brent from The Office! Excalibur by D Brent. " I froze your tears and made a dagger, And stabbed it in my c*ck forever, It stays there like Excalibur, Are you my Arthur? Say you are. Take this cool, dark, steel-ed blade Steal it, Sheath it in your lake, I'd drown with you to be together, Must you breathe? Cos I need heaven" Followed by awkward silence. Excellant viewing!
  7. Hi John, Ideally you want wood chip that is mainly timber chipped, ie not too much leaf matter in it. I just sold one of my chippers to a chap from Dawlish if interested PM me and I,all give you his number. I'm not sure if he sells the chip or not but worth asking. Matt
  8. Wouldn't a 7.5 ton 360 with a solid fixed grab be the best thing. Just pluck up scrub roots and all and pile them up for burning at the same time.
  9. Quite, my old boss hired how his mog and chipper for a weekend once for £50. It wasn't even a job for family or friends. I thinks he knew I wasn't the remotest bit interested in starting my eventual company in his area anyway. I can see Rupes point tho really- if your on the books etc it'd show gratitude to point the work in the bosses direction. If your self employed and trying to start up anyway- crack on! Just put down basic job spec on the quote plus your price- beware of stipulating too much information about the job it can lead to complications- just keep it basic:thumbup1:
  10. I did find that funny but mainly because it sounded like i was in a henhouse at laying time. Ah- those crazy Germans:lol:
  11. erm if its any help, my tractor states 1600kg max on the end of the link arm, in reality a ton attachment is about the max.
  12. Yes I have found that with stoat- I was rebuilding a stone wall on a track next to some 10 yr old woodland and suddenly heard this almighty screaming of a rabbit being pursued by a stoat I couldn't believe how close they came to despite me crashing around beforehand. I watched for a while, you got to feel sorry for the wabbit, the stoat didn't kill it in one go but bit it, chased it bit again, until the rabbit was just a squeaking wreck, then the stoat tryed to pull it back into his hole and couldn't fit the rabbit through very well and got spooked by something ran off leaving the rabbit still half alive. I think half the problem is the stoats go for rabbits which are actually a bit big for them.
  13. Good find tree surgeon Essex. Well, BT haven't actually turned up yet despite saying they'd be there yesterday and I saw two open reach vans go past. The money its going to cost me annoys me (although I'm going to try and get out of that one) but what annoys me more is the disruption caused to the customer- they work from home so being without internet or phone for a few days is downtime for them:thumbdown: Trouble is I can't even finish straining up the stock netting either cost it would go over where the line is snapped. Anyway from the posts sounds like I'm not the only one having problems:laugh1:
  14. Its nice to see such positive attitude towards snakes, they tend to have a bad stigma attached to them and this is totally unjustified, snakes will bite/defend for two reasons to kill prey they are capable of eating and in defence as a last resort, they usually try to get away first. I have had many pet snakes, boa constrictors, beautiful carpet python and corn snakes. Ifvonly been bitten twice and both to were my fault. I think you are very lucky to see adders and grass snakes in the wild now, I'm not sure they appriciate Britain's miserable climate any more then us. That grass snake in the pic looks like its about to shed its skin I think. Nearly stepped on an adder on the moors not long ago. A wee baby.
  15. Yep run a 36" 3/8 on mine, does fine but as said let the saw do the work without pressurising it too much.
  16. Cheers for all the replies chaps, Good call on the BS. I'm not sure if this would be defined as cultivated land, but its a moorland field enclosure and could be ploughed is so desired. I did think about joining myself it looked simple enough, but knowing my luck I'll end up shorting something so I'all leave this one to the pros. Plus it gave me little electric shock every time I touched the wire:laugh1: Last year I was doing a bit of augering and I went through a water pipe which I fixed myself but right next to it was a massive mains electrics which the auger must have been pretty much brushing:blushing: hindsight tells me I was a bit gungho on that job, but this ones was just bad luck.
  17. Yes a CAT scanner is something I'd like to have. Just been doing research on line, it isn't a fibre optic cable just a small copper one, still i'l try the 450mm tact! Good call on the pictures. Open reach are meant to be coming tomorrow, I will ask them to detect the rest of the line before I go knocking the rest of the stakes in I think!
  18. I know I would say this being faced with having to pay out for it but I couldn't agree more, everyone knows that all sorts of things happen in fields so why bury it so shallow, even a drag harrow might have pulled it up or if it was very wet tractor tyre ruts could have churned at it.
  19. Doesn't look like fibre optic to me, its 8 bits of copper wire . Ah well, these things happen, when working around houses I'd check for services, but this was such a random spot down near a river I didn't give it a thought.
  20. Putting up a stock fence today at a remote houseon the moors in a field about 100m from the house, put the post auger down with the digger and went straight through an armoured bt cable- bliming typical. Anyone know roughly what open reach charge to put it back together? Various people on the web have suggested figures anywhere between 60 to a grand. The cable was only 6 inches down, personally think if they must lay cables in a field they could at least put it deep enough so you could actually plough if you wanted if not put it overhead:confused1:
  21. Cheers for all the reccomendations everyone, will follow those up. The anvils has a bit of life in them still but are rounded of a bit so just to get the machine all nice and tight I was going to change all the wear parts. The worst bit of wear is in the wipers and wearing plates on the flywheel. They are so rounded of that the bolt that holds them on is getting eaten into. Not sure if the horizontal anvil has been reversed yet.
  22. Hmm thanks, that's encouraging to read, I must admit I'm very impressed by everything thing on the machine and sooo easy to work on but when I got the price I thought streuth.
  23. Yes the tps have one main horizontal anvil plus 2 smaller vertical ones on each side. Saturn blades are considerably cheaper too.
  24. Just was about to order a 'service box' for my newly acquired used chipper Tp200. Consisting of 3 blades, 3 anvils, 3 v belts, a filter, and a few other small wear parts bolts/nuts etc. Total cost- just on a grand plus delivery from Denmark. I was expecting maybe 500 but a grand seems very unjustified. Any other to owners find parts expensive. Am selling Timber wolf at the most and was just going to keep TP pto- might have a rethink. My only hope is that the TPs 'wear parts' will last 3 times as long.
  25. I reckon that will sell very well.
