  1. Looking at getting a new mower. 18 inch self propelled, light enough to get up flights of steps/over walls etc. Not too bothered about anything flash, just reliable. Anybody had any experience with Ibea machines? Cheers
  2. Ha ha cheers Rover!! I have used the welders gloves in the past and they are ok to a point. Will definitely go for them mate, 25 quid to stop me getting stabbed to bits is a price worth paying methinks. I trust your advice implicitly if you work with the thorny swines all winter!!! Cheers for all the replies. This site is a belter!
  3. Did three Hawthorne hedges last week and my arms are scratched to bits!!! What gloves/gauntlets do you guys use to prevent these pesky sods scratching you? Cheers
  4. Last in first out went out years ago. The local council made the tractor drivers take an assessment, they used this and absence plus disciplinary records to work out who went.
  5. Why has it worked perfectly until now though? Still baffled. Whats an air vent? (excuse my ignorance!!)
  6. Its not made anymore -this is probably around 15 years old and i would imagine about 16 kw. Its a real big un with single glass door, cranks out some real heat (when its drawing!) The stove has worked perfectly for years -until i lit it last week! Still head scratching! Cheers for all the replies.
  7. no they are all clear -could there be a crack in the inner lining maybe?
  8. Just been giving my uncle a lift with his Aarow stove. The airwash was not functioning. We have cleaned the stove completely, and swept the chimney (no blockages). This has not helped and the fire just dies if you close the bottom airvent. The airwash at the top of the glass just doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions anyone? Cheers
  9. Which company do you guys use/recommend for chipper and tools? I tried NFU but they would only do it in conjunction with vehicle insurance. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers
  10. Cheers pal, another one solved by Arbtalk!!!
  11. Howdo, happy new year! My mate is after a couple of transit load of chip for his lads new play area, bit too far me! If anyone local could sort him out, it would be much appreciated. Bit of beer money for someone! if you could be of assistance pm me and i'll give you his address and number -he lives out towards the racecourse. Cheers in advance.
  12. Saw a wild tiger in Chitwan National Park -Nepal!!! Scared us as we were on foot with sticks for protection! Also took some cracking video of tree work Nepali stylee -will post up soon.
  13. Nice one Gareth -i'll have a look into these cheers.
  14. Cheers for all the replies. i reckon its doable in a day, but still should charge the going rate though so i'll go for 10p per tree and see what the response is. The site is not SSI but the contract specifics state Biactive should be used, as is dye. The trees are spiral protected 2m apart in rows 2m wide. As you say though Rupe Roundup is just the brand name -if the chemical used is the same it should not be an issue. I used to use the CDA sprayers when i worked for the council -might be worth an investigation. Can you add dye to these? Cheers again.
  15. Where is the best place for Round up biactive or similar product (Gallup etc). Got to price up spraying round 6000 newly planted whips, and was reckoning around 5p per tree. That sound reasonable? Cheers
  16. I was contacted by a customer at the back end of last year. The garden is has been neglected for years and they wanted the area landscaped, including grass, paved and vegetable growing areas. Straightforward enough I thought, but when I looked at the job the area was completely smothered in Mairs tail! I managed to get one spray in (with barbarian glypho 360). I bruised the plants prior to spraying. Should I carry on with this process or am i pissing in the wind? any advice on removal of this weed greatly accepted.
  17. ha ha ha tis true! Some people are just there to test us rationally minded folk! We actually ended up laughing and having a brew with him, so alls well that ends well. Makes you think though, some buggers could try and sue. Back to me pipe and slippers!
  18. did just that -made the best of a bad job and all parties were appeased if not happy. The fella obviously doesn't speak to his wife!
  19. Did not do any written quotes! Bad I know, the people paying were family friends. All happy neighbours too (until today!) I still got paid, and left the tree as a drastic (cowboy!) reduction. Its all part of the learning curve i guess!
  20. Had an issue today when removing a sycamore. The job was being paid for by the next garden on -not the actual tree owner. I visited both parties a few weeks ago, and all were in agreement to take it down. Last Friday I called round and left my card saying I would do the agreed job on Monday and if they had any queries to call. I was halfway through the job today when the husband ( who I had not previously spoken to) came home and went crazy saying he had not given permission. I should have written out a contract for both the tree owner and the neighbour and got them to sign. paying for the job. What do you guys do to cover for this eventuality. What do you guys do to cover for this eventuality. Is there a simple generic template I could "borrow"? Cheers for your time.
  21. I'm meeting someone who has a farm there in the morning. I'll ask him and get back to you if you'd like?
