  1. Amazing..... great video of some awesome climbing!!
  2. The old product against service business question......I would love to have a crystal ball!!!! Interesting thread...i've enjoyed reading about peoples takes on pricing. It is sometimes trickier to get the price right than do the work i find!!!
  3. No worries mate
  4. Thank you mate!
  5. Paul, it does seem to be a good source of new customers according to a friend who uses it for their plastering and decorating business..... perhaps i need to get over it and accept that it could be good for business!!!
  6. My degree was Business studies based with an orientation to the adventure industry - i was training as a mountaineer with a view to guiding, hopefully running a centre etc when i was aged just 21. But realised that I wasn't enjoying making my hobby into my career, it took the fun away. Seven years on at 28 i'm finding my career in Arb has also become my hobby - funny how that works!! Studying Finance, Economics, Marketing, Law, Management, and learning to compile half decent written essays and actually how to present with the spoken word all helped me enormously with setting up my business in 2008..... the adventurous side of me and my love of nature helped with the trees!!
  7. Huck, that would be a very kind investment - and one that would give him a lot of enjoyment, along with some pretty useful tools for his future! University certainly had a very positive effect on my life. Without it i would not have my own business, work ethic, or the same outlook on life. I went from completely lost - to driven and focused in 3 short years!!!
  8. I am aware that i'm cutting off my nose to spite my face over this.... as a lot of people use it to find a contractor - whatever work they may do. I have been trimming back my advertising of late, and its made no difference to the ammount of business i'm getting. I would like to be involved with a scheme that represents honest, decent tradesmen.... but this one doesn't sit well with me when i know who i would be associated with locally!!
  9. Im really looking forward to this Christmas break - its been a busy year and i'm going to enjoy the relaxation during the holidays and satisfaction that all the completed work has brought me! happy holidays and merry Christmas Jon.... enjoy your scrump!!
  10. I refuse to use it on the basis that a couple of co's who are involved in the scheme local to me are totally unworthy of the so called 'recomended, trusted and checked' status. Complete and utter joke!!
  11. Hama a log cabin sounds awesome....mine however would be full of instruments for lots and lots of jamming sesions!!
  12. I would love to purchase some woodland.....a couple of acres. a place to escape to for a nice chilled out day once in a while. Camp out with mates, have a fire, shoot etc etc. Plus, get stuck into some coppice work for fun, and keep my firewood stocked up. I would invest in a new landy tipper..... So thats roughly £50k gone give or take...... Buy a trailer with built in Hi-ab (to save my back!) £10 - 12K Buy a tractor (always wanted one - since childhood!) I would put 20k in the bank Might be a few quid left over for a cheeky holiday with my girlfriend!
  13. yup....im still in the dark ages with either blakes or pruss! I shall be asking Santa very nicely for a nice new set up.... hitch climber, lock jack, or other?
  14. i was going to go for some strectch airs but saw the new class 2's and decided to go for them.... been happy so far
  15. If im honest the thought of getting my elbow injected is my worst nightmare - girly i know but my one and only phobia is needles and injections - had to be hypnotised before getting my jabs for my holidays two years ago!!! Physio and rest it is... oh and a new friction device for climbing
  16. Hi, i climb in the new stihl hi flex type c class 2's... they are very comfy, and with the extra tough material now all the way up the front of the thighs they are very tough wearing. They don't appear to be any heavier or more cumbersome than the old class 1's Hope that helps mate
  17. I replaced the bridge on my dragonfly last week, it didn't have any noticible marks, nicks or fraying..... but for the sake of 12 quid i can be safe in the knowledge that its good to go and fingers crossed safe and sound.
  18. I feel my hand may be forced to take a break from the tools and climbing - Your bang on Steve, i've been taking the typical bloke approach and working through the pain, no doubt doing plenty of harm in the process! Thanks for the advice guys
  19. I'm quite worried about injections, 2 mates have both had them and it got worse.... one of them went back for 3 more and it kept getting worse!
  20. Cheers Mark, i know i have to get it sorted and rest is the way!
  21. Did the physio help mate? Was that private or NHS? hoping to take a bit of time out at Christmas so should get a bit of rest!
  22. Evening all, I have been struggling big time with tennis elbow for a couple of months now..... i have tried all the usual pain relief, anti inflamitories etc etc. Has anyone out there got advice with dealing with this niggling, annoying and at times very painful problem. I can't hold a cup of tea in my left hand, and squeezing out the toothpaste in the morning usually ends in agony. Oh and yes i went to the quack and he said it never completely goes away, you cant heal it, and i should rest........... yeah right, i've had 8 days off since May!! Perhaps its time to employ more lads, but in the meantime it would be heavenly to stop the pain Cheers, Pete
  23. Don't price it too cheap with the promise of more work playing on your mind.... i have found on many an occasion that the 'extra' work never materialises and i was being played in order to get the price down on the first one!! my synical view...but don't underprice it....remember - each job on its merit Best of luck
  24. I'm guilty of windows down heaters up full in the landy!
  25. I quite agree log dog..... Attitude to work and customers is very important I'm not short of work however - simply trying to come up with ways to keep hold of those hard earn £££'s for longer!!
