  1. Will do. The majority of them are just rubbing but will tell the contractor to leave any welded branches as not to create unnessecary wounds.
  2. 1 - No targets within falling zone. There are two paths that cross near the the tree but they are well out of the target zone. 2 - The cavity extends about 2 feet upwards and 6 inches down. I would estimate there to be about 8 inches of sound wood to the right of the wound and about 12 inches of sound wood to the left. We are planning on having it reduced by about 10% all over. It still has a very healthy crown so we dont want to take too much off. The second tree we shall be having any crossing branches removed and any dead wood fracture pruned. The very lowest limb we will be having reduced by about 15% as it is a "sunseeker" so we dont want that one to fail as it would leave a big wound.
  3. The team i work in is made up of 5 paid employees and atleast 14 volunteers (of which i am 1). Because there are so many of us and we have 3 four seater vans we can go out in seperate teams and do different things. Our work turnover is always very high because of our volunteers. It really annoys me when someone tars all council workers with the same brush because they saw someone sleeping on their tea break. Our highways dept guys start work at 6.30 am and don't finish until 4pm. And they are on 24 hour callout as are the tree team. At times we will all pull together and work as 1 big team to get a job done (eg. Main trunk road was blocked by 16 fallen trees during the january winds. Road was clear within 90 minutes).
  4. Yep. It was a case of big tree, wrong location. It was on 1 in 3 slope and in the january winds the rootplate was lifting on the chalk. So we took the decision to fell it as the town council is going to fell a Horse Chestnut directly behind it.
  5. Some compartmentlising on a 3 stemmed Sycamore. One of the stems had been cut two years ago but the stub had all but been rotted away by Dryads Saddle. The rot was only on the cut stub.
  6. Nearly. Its only 38. Each growth ring is about a centimetre apart.
  7. What do you recon to these two Oaks? 1-5 This Quercus robur is clear of the larger neighbouring trees but has an extensive cavity inhabited by Great Tits. The crown is open but healthy. 6-11- This one has a full crown but the leaves are slightly yellow. No signs of body language associated with rot but we will be removing the ivy to ground level.
  8. It is good fun. Alot of stretchs we can either only parallel fell with the paths and let the trees roll down the slopes. Or get the in house tree team to do tree work. we have some massive multi-stemmed ash which we will be helping out the tree team on just with the amount of timber we will be producing.
  9. It has a zoom feature but it becomes grainy as you zoom in.
  10. Got 3 videos today of tree felling. In the first video my boss yells. stop filming and it sounds like he is serious but was infact taking the micky so i got the video going again. 11. I did mate. I have applied for it as i have a friend who lives in that area. Will wait and see what happens with regards to an interview.
  12. We are lucky enough to have every farm/land boundary map for our district and with both landline and mobile numbers of the owners. So we can ask before going if we can drive upto the site.
  13. Cheers. It was done between four of us and took us the afternoon as the soil was incredibly stony.
  14. A double stile and sleeper bridge replacement. It was foul weather so we parked the van to act as a wind break.
  15. A dead Ash which we had left last year due to its location already been munched to destruction by Coriolus veriscolor or Bjerkandera adusta.
  16. Yellow Brain fungus (Tremella mesenterica ) on a Beech twig.
  17. A Piptoporus betulinus to be proud of.
  18. Got a poorly Stihl HS75. Its 18 years old in july. We've had the carb sonically cleaned, fuel lines replaced, new air filter and fuel filter and a new coil all in the last 8 months (coil done 6 months ago). It has good compression and a very good spark. Any idea what might be causing the surging?
  19. Cool. Will be leaving that stem then. Wont reach the trailway below and will just hang up in a Sycamore behind.
  20. Spotted some fluting on a twin stemmed Sycamore. Will keep an eye on the basal Stazi ears as we plan on doing some thinning work in there to remove the squirrel damaged stuff. I also noticed some buckling on an Oak stem with a wound on one side. No fruiting bodies yet but there must be something at play.
  21. Had a bridge job to do after lunch time after we did some fingerposts this morning. The sheet said fallen trees anf one plank needing replacement. We replaced most of the bridge.
