  1. We've had Earp and his team do some interesting jobs for us since. They just did a Oak in Durweston on the rec ground as it was in serious decline. Its now at pollard height with plenty of growth points. As we said to the locals who wanted it doing its either kill or cure as it was 75% deadwood.
  2. A willow stub from a large limb we decided to fell due to top being split out and hanging. We knew the rot would have been present with the 4 brackets around the base and neighbouring stem but we weren't sure how bad it would be. The centre was very very soft and the fungus was making its way into the remaining wood. The plan is to monitor the larger limb leaning back and to tidy up the remaining stool in due course to leave it as a large willow coppice stool.
  3. Will have to speak to Denny (owner of upton tree services) about that m8. Got some big lumps down there.
  4. Ha ha cool. Do you work for Earpy then? Nope been there all the time. Just been widened and resurfaced twice.
  5. Some recent pictures of the currently open stretch near the town centre. Judging by the amount of litter on the slopes we are going to be litter picking on Friday with the trailer as there is loads.
  6. Did a bit of litter picking this afternoon on a town centre site and needless to say i wasn't expecting to see human waste, a bloody wipe, a johny n a little pink pill and a load of .177 air rifle pellets.
  7. These two trees are on a site we have recently taken management of. Any ideas what variety it is? I think in autumn the leaves go a deep red
  8. Cheers. The first gate took a while to do as we hadnt done one before and the rights of way ranger told us to just bolt it together n put it in the ground which we did. Second one we bolted it together so it was all as one to see if it was any quicker. It was but it required more fettling of the holes as they had to be bob on.
  9. Todays job. Install 2 footpath kissing gates. The first one looks ok but the second one we may need to re do as it doesnt look as low in the diagrams and pictures. But as i have said to my colleagues its because the ground slopes away left to right.
  10. Ah ok. Not where i thought it was.
  11. Nice job there. Looks familiar to me for some reason.
  12. This afternoons job. Install 1 Marlow footpath gate. Going to be putting in three kissing gates in tomorrow all within the same area.
  13. Kretzschmaria duesta. Not seen it on holly before. Is it coming out?
  14. I stopped two yobos on scramble bikes earlier on a stretch of trailway i walk my dogs along. What they didnt realise is i had already had called a friend who was working on the freelander and met me and the lad on bikes. Needless to say they weren';t happy as i made it sound like i wasnt actually speaking to someone.
  15. The fruits of my labour yesterday arvo. 18 bags of logs and only 2 and half bags of woodchip.
  16. Cheers. Its hard graft but we get there in the end. We are a relatively small team in comparison to other councils managing the same number of sites and miles of rights way. We only have a Senior Ranger managing 1 big team split into 2 (north and west). Those teams have 1 sites ranger, 2 assistant rangers and 1 rights of way ranger and 3 apprentices between them. We have a large group of volunteers which are college students, special needs (aspergers syndrome, PTSD sufferers, etc) and long term volunteers such as myself.
  17. This is the new stretch of trailway between Blandford and Stourpaine. It is being surfaced with tarmac all the way from Station Court to Stourpaine Church.
  18. DR do a tow behind version of their Field and Brush Mowers. We have a 13hp walk behind version and soon going to get a 18.5hp V twin model. The 13hp is powerful enough to knock small trees and lots of thistles over. Its a Rotary blade which runs on skids when cutting and pneumatic tyres when not.
  19. Got uptons on a stretch of old railway line that they are clearing for us. They were talking about bringing the mog down and tractor with chip trailer tomorrow as they filled their van 3 times today.
  20. Just out of interest Dave. Where abouts near Wareham are you working?
  21. Don't worry mate. I'm sure your neck of the woods are safer for bikers than ours. It happens in Dorset. A spate of fatalities involving cars or bike then nothing for ages.
  22. Will do. Hopefully get some video tomorrow again too.
  23. On Friday, a 65 year old man lost his life on a very local stretch of road. 65-year-old biker dies in crash on the A350 (From Bournemouth Echo) Last night a 16 year old girl travelling westbound lost her life on the A31 near Ringwood. The road was fully opened at lunchtime today. UPDATED: 16-year-old Ringwood girl dies in major accident (From Bournemouth Echo)
