  1. Hi, I've been delivering to a lady from Boxgrove, Chichester, for the last couple of years. The roads between Havant and there are getting worse though and it is becoming uneconomic for us and incredibly time consuming, sometimes taking close to 2 hours to complete. It's a nice simple drop up a drive in a quiet cul-de-sac, seconds off the A27. She has around 3 loads off us a year, so almost 7m cubed (loose). And she is quite happy to take massive lumps, in fact she gets the hump if she doesn't get many of them. Perfect for offloading big lumps of knotty wood. I'm looking for someone who delivers in that area so next time she calls, we can give her their details. Anyone up for it? Or do you have a customer within 10 miles of Havant who you have trouble getting to? Many thanks, Adam
  2. Yeah I hear where you're coming from. EWGS and your licences don't cover you for disturbances to bats, roosts and shelters. You need to get that separately through Natural England. I must admit that part wasn't carried out by me so I'm unaware of how involved it is. We regularly have an ecological consultancy carrying out bat surveys in our woods who feed back to my manager. We have a bunch of trees tagged throughout the woodland, mainly mature oaks but there is also a large, rotten birch somewhere if I remember rightly. Your responsibilities fall under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, which says damage, disturbance to roosts or harms to bats is an offence. This was updated by CRoW Act to include reckless behaviour. Further on from this is Habitat Regs which doesn't care whether you intended to cause damage or not; it will punish you either way. FC guy reckoned that our plan was very low impact as only touched small, half hectare sized coups a year. One of our aims was to improve habitat for bats as well as to encourage dormice to pop over from neighbouring land.

  4. Hi there Brushcutter!! Apologies for the late reply but thank you very much for that!! It's been mega helpful!! Can't wait to get this one done and dusted!! Thanks again, Adam
  5. Just checked, you're right. Zoo licenses haven't been needed for llamas since an amendment in 2004. Tbh, I don't deal with the animal care, I have heard talk of zoo licenses and llamas mentioned at work in the past so kind of assumed we would have one. And yeah, it does seem a bit OTT for rabbits, but at the moment they are in a building. Just had another thought, they will be in view of the ferrets
  6. re: zoo license, we got one, but only to cover our llama.
  7. You'd like that wouldn't you. I'm afraid to say that it was a dull as this and a few other bits and pieces getting funded from sale of a parcel of land. It's an attempt to encourage a few more visitors as the farm has been restricted in going forward for a while and it has got a bit stale. Didn't get too far with it today as had odd jobs to be up to. Hope to finish it tomorrow though. I'll ruin it now as the fact it's not a small hardon collider will only cause disappointment. It's going to be a rabbit warren. Boooooo. One of the other suggestions is the next job up after our woodland works.
  8. Closest we get to having to surveys stuff is fixed point photography. Other part is to fence off a few hazel stools within the woodland so that they can't be browsed, to use as controls. Again, photographs suffice.
  9. Hmmm, it was playing up for me a moment ago changing the hotlink from a normal one to content not found, like you say. Think Facebook is on the blink. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=274570&id=513988371&l=8cced85d1d

  11. Chris rents a room in my workshops. Dave did one of my assessment. Good people.
  12. I think Chris does work through Brinsbury. Most of his training is just outside of Havant although I did cs31 test in Arundel or somewhere near there. What course are you doing at Brinsbury?
  13. Bloke who works out of my buildings is called Chris Bain. He is very chilled but very thorough. If you need to ask a question, you won't feel like a tit.
  14. Surprisingly, that is the project after next. Won't look as good as this secretspecialthing will look though.

    Scarface

The chainsaw in the apartment scene is fraught with danger. No PPE for starters. Good shirts though apart from the man in a poo coloured shirt. He had his upcomance though. Followed by cheesy pop music.
  20. That is kind of how I was getting on to interpret it! I'm going to tackle each woodland system individually with the site cons, legislation blah headings. Thank you!
  21. God bless taking almost 6 months to get a felling licence in place to do a months worth of woodland works in a matter of days. The birds were out last week before it came through and now I'm fully expecting not to get this years work completed and will have to put some of it off until next autumn! There's nothing like a bit of pressure!
  22. Also, would it be best to single out each woodland system and treat them separately with the legislation, site condition and pressure groups as individual headings for each system?
  23. Hi there, before I start, I don't want the question answered for me, but I'm a little confused about how to approach this question. The part I am confused about is the "site conditions and location" aspect. I'm finding it hard to understand what they actually mean. I think it is probably simple, possibly to do with site being in favourable, recovering or declining, like with Higher Level Stewardship site condition assessments. Can anyone give any pointers, where to look more than anything. I can see myself needlessly waffling on for this part. And I presume location could include proximity of woodland to settlement, ease of access to manage the site etc? I've been tearing my hair out as I have definitely waffled on the other 3 questions in this unit and I just want to get it finished and sent off now. Many thanks for reading! Identify the constraints, which may apply to woodland maintenance systems. The following headings should be used in your answer: Legislation and European Union Regulations. Site condition and location. Pressure groups and specialist bodies. Relate your answer to the woodland systems; coppice, coppice with standards, wood pasture, plantation, ancient and semi-ancient woodland.
  24. It wasn't going to be a large ferret roulette arena but now there is a 75% chance that it might end up as that now!!
  25. Little project at work to get done before half term. Can anyone guess what it will be? These are a few pictures from today, will be carrying on with it on Monday and will update with a few more clues. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=274570&id=513988371&l=8cced85d1d
