  1. That's some serious fructification there David! It's not something I see at height often, around 3 or 4m on a poplar stem is the highest I've seen before...
  2. Armillaria here up to 2.5m (on the top, at the base of the right hand limb) and all round the base of this dead oak. It was alive in 2013, with only Fistulina present at the time. How high have you seen Armillaria fruiting?
  3. Really nice trees. I've only ever seen one in a garden, without the lanterns on at the time. It was one of those awkward moments which caught me out when the customer asked "what is it?" and I had to then check a book and get back to them!
  4. Bird feeders? And a scarf...
  5. Mousepee Pink Gill sounds like a BDSM porn star name, tee hee...
  6. Capsid bugs, interesting. I've never even heard of them before - more bedtime reading!
  7. Terrible Steve! They'll get stones in their tea!
  8. Saw one weevil on my kitchen window a little while back, only one I've seen near the garden this year. Good idea though, I'll have a closer look...
  9. In one corner of my garden all the plants have these small holes in the leaves, its confined to an area a couple of metres square, and affects all plants. Dock, nettle, dead nettle, mullein, jack by hedge, raspberry, even the clover! First thought was caterpillar - but on such varied host? Or something physical - but the only thing that I can imagine would be hail, but we've had none. Any other ideas gratefully received...

    No, plenty of hornbream though...
  11. Mr wiggy was very tasty, I'm pleased to say. Very mild and slightly nutty flavour. Nice firm stem, not at all fibrous, the cap (though the gills were perfectly white still) was a bit soft, but not unpleasantly so. One certainly doesn't make a meal though!
  12. It's a fairly short BS to be honest, I'd start by reading through it cover to cover. Do you have a copy?
  13. I've never tried them before- this is the only one I've ever found which wasn't inky! I'll add it to my brekkie tomorrow and report back. Those double headed shrooms are brilliant by the way...
  14. An inter-species embrace over the bridge... Willow and alder
  15. Also a lonely wig for m'pot... And some small capped Armillaria sp? I wonder if it was a bit dry and windy preventing full cap opening, which may explain the odd stem 'scales' - which were actually the stipe surface shrinking and cracking /lifting...
  16. Indeed, I had to recommend this young signage by a road be felled urgently earlier today...
  17. You got off lightly! Expect very black fingers if you handle or harvest more...
  18. Yep, what colour are your fingers now?

    Jokes???

That makes me common as muck!
  20. I got a cheapo silverline uv led torch a while back, works pretty well on banknotes and kids toys etc, but no idea what wavelength it is...
  21. I found the youngun at a company I used to work for standing on a shovel and wiggling once - he was trying to see if he could pick himself up! Not the sharpest tool in the box, but a hard worker though...
  22. There are many examples of installing constructions within RPAs, but in this case there is simply not enough info to make useful specific comments. It seems on the face of it, that the tree officer is being quite reasonable. G7 is a line of cat C beech, the lime T6, or 3 (4 or 5) and cat B? That is serious pressure on G7 for a start, lots of canopy overhang, massive RPA incursion to the north - what is to the south - will they be under future pressure for removal? Better to remove and replant - is cat C really appropriate, a line of trees or a hedge? T3 looks big, and off site too. What about buildability? There's a cez in the north east corner, what about to the south of the garage? How will that work in reality? And then the big question - what about the rest of the site? Is there no scope to re-jig the footprint? Just initial thoughts there, food for thought. What is your involvement in the planning app, has an arb had any input at any point? .....
  23. For interest - fluorescent timber info from an old woodworking book. The stags horn sumac sounds good...
  24. Ah, ok. I'll pass the details on, cheers...
  25. Is it for real?! I'll see your nano saw, and raise it my secateurs!
