  1. That's the principle I currently work on was just curious as to others opinions as I have seen some which have one half of A4 with the '!' and the other half like a short essay about tree roots and the legal mumbo jumbo of consequences/fines etc. I was considering a kind of middle ground between the two extremes of simple vs ott...
  2. Hi all, I'm looking to update my template for construction exclusion zones. I have a very basic warning triangle with the standard 'construction exclusion zone - keep out' at the moment. I'm thinking of including more info along the lines of 'these trees may be protected by T&CP Act, other statutory protection etc. Entering this zone may result in....' I'm thinking people may take a mild 'threat' more seriously! However, I'm unsure whether simple is better, and more likely to be read in the first place. Thoughts, suggestions and opinions please.....
  3. Well that's certainly different!
  4. I think you mean Innonotus (or is it Pseudoinnonotus now?) dryadeus quite a combo for a relatively young oak to deal with. Sail looks to be below, and sheltered by, neighbouring trees now; and with no significant targets I can note. Be interesting to see dissection of the butt if it ever does come down...
  5. Hi, email should read [email protected] sorry about that. Re follow up, maybe checking up on the frothy flux in a few weeks/months?
  6. 4 of these 5 ash have hispidus brackets, the 5th has what is probably hispidus associated canker up top. The first, unusually, has a bracket at the extreme base; lower than I've seen it before...
  7. Hi Guy, interesting post indeed. Is there/will there be a follow up video? If you don't mind, I'd appreciate a copy of the assessment ([email protected]) Thank you...
  8. I got a call the other morning from the 'business directory' saying I was optimized or top this that and the other. Apparently, I registered last year and they just needed my payment details for the next year. I've never heard of them, when questioned I apparently paid 90 something quid last year (news to me!), they said they'd forward a copy of the invoice from last year, and details of the 3 monthly optimization calls I'd be getting for my renewal fee - once I've given my details! Still have no email? I hope they haven't forgotten...
  9. Hi all, I'm a little confused as to what this means. Could anyone here offer any insight please: (taken from PI insurance contract) ''EXCLUSIONS The Insurer shall not be liable to indemnify the Insured against any claim:... ... 20. Asbestos & toxic mould arising directly or indirectly out of or resulting from or in consequence of or in any way involving: a) Asbestos or any materials containing asbestos in whatever form or quantity; or b) the actual, potential, alleged or threatened formation, growth, presence, release or dispersal of any fungi, moulds, spores or mycotoxins of any kind; or c) any action taken by any party in relation to the actual, potential, alleged or threatened formation, growth, presence, release or dispersal of (to include the investigation of, testing for, detection, monitoring, treating, remediating or removal of) any fungi, moulds, spores or mycotoxins of any kind whether in response to any governmental or regulatory order, requirement, directive, mandate, decree or otherwise. In the event of any dispute as to whether or not this exclusion applies the Insured shall have the burden of proving that this exclusion does not apply'' Please note point 'c' in particular. How would this relate to for instance, failure of an investigated/monitored tree due to fungal decay? Ps. I dont think this clause I need to worry about! Radioactive contamination or explosive nuclear assemblies directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to by or arising from: a) ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of nuclear fuel; or b) the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component thereof Thanks in advance, Kevin
  10. I see, thank you. What kind of site is it, looks nice while on the subject does anyone have any ref to research on scribing and the like? Processes, species, success etc. I know Rob has an interest in this, where are you Robert!? Or is it Robin? Or Robert even?
  11. Would you care to expand on your scribing please? Do you mean you scribed last year to promote epicormic before reducing this year Ta very muchly...
  12. Sound advice
  13. Some discussion on the topped/pollarded debate here... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=34258
  14. Good idea, pressure from protesting kids raise awareness of these eco issues which are hot at the moment from a young age. A new generation of Eco-warriors!
  15. Could be looking at the pics, though in the flesh that didn't seem right?
  16. Yes that's the one, well done! Thank you...
  17. I was reminded of it by this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=46521 No interest other than curiosity really. I shall have a nose in Butin if I get a chance tomorrow. Haven't read through it yet, only had a brief scan through. It all looks fascinating
  18. Tony, about a year ago there was someone had some pines (I think it was pines) in a group that were suffering from an unknown canker. Unusually, it was causing failures. I can't find the thread anywhere and seem to remember you asking the OP if you could look into it further. If so, did you discover anything? Ps. Sorry if its too distant a memory!
  19. A prod and probe and plenty of photos I'll try and remember to take a proper camera too...
  20. Maybe, although I'd expect to see fruit bodies by the time symptoms are so pronounced. Also (I didn't get up close, the wife finds me embarrassing enough as it is ) Butin says it only forms the canker on Quercus. I think the bark in the centre of the depression was still alive as well. I have a gold card so will be there again some point, will have a closer look
  21. As above, strange stem form on salix at Colchester zoo. It's almost like its grown against something long since removed, causing a flat, circular depression in the stem, with 'ears'. But it hasn't. Not right for a target canker either, no necrosis. Looks fairly normal when viewed from the other side. Apologies for poor quality phone pics and finger blur! So, any suggestions?
  22. It's a real shame that a tree of that size should be felled because the owner who, presumably knows no different, assumes an unidentified fungi makes it likely to fail and dangerous. Surely if you found a crack in your wall you wouldn't just go and get quotes to underpin your house. You'd have the situation assessed by someone who knows their onions and go from there, armed with more decision aiding information. Anyway, I suspect this to be Ganoderma pfeifferi. Check the fungi directory. Obviously hard to say without seeing the whole tree, but beech can, and often do, go on for decades hosting this fungus without failure. What/how close are the targets if it's in the middle of a lawn?
  23. Arrived this morning smaller than I expected Cheers Tony...
  24. Final letters of consent detailing conditions are not published are they (I looked recently and ended up having to ask the client for details)?
