  1. Thanks chaps. I think it will be difficult to keep under the radar as he is looking to fund this with the help of a WEBS2 grant and asking the council has proved inconclusive so far....
  2. Firstly - Happy new year to you all - I hope the log sales are booming! One of my members is considering building a large drying shed in his yard, but is concerned that the whole building will be eligible for business rates. He does intend to sell small quantities of firewood to passersby, but by and large his main business will be delivering the logs. Could he get round this by segregating off a small “office area”? Your ideas and experiences will be gratefully received
  3. Thanks Chaps - I'll pass the info on. Seasons greeting to you all
  4. Dear Forum members. What information do you have on the burning qualities of air dry LC/WRC? one of my members has access to quite a lot but has not dried and burnt any in the remembered past. He is aware of the species' dry weight and density, and would be grateful for anyone's experience of dealing with them. Any info would be gratefully received. Cheers.....
  5. Sure - I thought you might test the market by supplying other producers briquettes, so I TJ might be a starter! Do call anytime - it's good to talk....
  6. Talk to these guys - Thomas Joinery - Wood Fuel Supplier - Crymych
  7. At equal moisture contents, weight for weight, softwood generally has a slightly highers calorific value than hardwood - see a chart for 0% m/c here You will see that the best poss figs are about 5.5kWh/KG. Pellets(and Briquettes) at 8% m/c would have around 4.7-4.8kWh/kg see page 3 of this Carbon Trust Doc
  8. Any Ideas - it's about 4" long I'm wondering - Cherry? Cheers
  9. Woodfuel Wales Membership is available to our brothers in the Marches - call me for details 01654 700081
  10. Thanks for the nudge A! I spoke to the Stove Industry Alliance. They have figures for their members who they suggest supply appx. 50% of the UK market, although he did say that "others" reckon the Alliance's members supply a lower proportion. The figures are for domestic multifuel and Wood burning stoves (at a suggested ratio of 2/3 to 1/3). July 10 - June 11 - 84,000 June 09 - July 10 - 73,000 So, total UK would be at least double that. For figures for Wales I put my finger in the air and came up with 5% based upon population...close enough for me!! Cheers M
  11. Anyone come across these yet Black Mountain Wood Fuels - The Coppice Stove Any thoughts? M
  12. Shocking! - Thanks A
  13. Thanks Chaps - I've got what I need now Cheers Martin
  14. Problem with a large water jacket is that it reduces the temp in the fire box too much. so effective combustion is not possible and all that unburnt fuel goes up the chimney....
  15. Does anyone know where I can get hold of this info please? annual figs for the past couple of years split into regions if possible... Cheers Martin
  16. remember to understand whether the moisture meter is measuring on a wet or dry basis... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/30900-moisture-meters.html

  20. Aberdyfi beach last weekend. Got a fair bit of interest. Had trouble getting first couple lit because of strong breeze - in the end a small splash of accelerant did the trick!
  21. As has been suggested before in this thread - This is an inspiring place to be. I saw the finish candle here a couple of weeks back and sent the link to a few of my members, and last friday a handful turned up at the office from 2 of my good old buddies. I took one to display at the Royal Welsh Show and it was a roaring success - Even unlit! Many punters were excited to realise what it was and said they would be trying them out. I'm only just back from the show and photos have started arriving in my email - I'll report back on monday after sparking one of my own up for the first time on Aberdyfi beach this evening - Hurrah! Cheers M
