  1. Xerxses, this is an example of a retained Monolith, which is monitored for stability annually. First picture Dead Beech. Second, dead hedging of brash. Third, reduced and coronetted. Forth, detail of Bat Habitat. Fith, condition after 3 years. Hope you find these helpful. There are a few more examples if you are interested.
  2. Have a look at the To Coronet or not to Coronet Thread on the second page of the General Chat Forum.
  3. We go to the AA every year. Back in 04 we were staying at a B&B near Tarlton and were directed to the Tunnel House Inn for evening refreshments. This was the night of the England v Portugal quarterfinal at Euro 04. Whilst supping fine Ale and the like we suddenly realised that the Geezer wearing the number 9 Rooney Shirt up at the bar getting in the round, was none other than HRH Prince William. He was giving it large and swearing at the telly just like every other passion and beer fuelled footy fan. It has to said this was no ordinary boozer, his bodyguards later told us that this was his local whilst down at his old mans weekend retreat, and that it was one of the very few places one could go to relax and let ones hair down! He didn't buy us a pint though, now that would have been a story.
  4. Anna, have you enlisted to resit the course at Merrist wood? They were very proffessional IME, and if Jack Kenyans still running the course you will be in very good hands.
  5. It's so hot here the London Tree Officers have collectively agreed to fell all street trees and replant with Palms !
  6. I think there is no definative answer on this one. I've seen guys anchor on to epicormic that would make squirells think twice, then you get the overly cautious who need a limb the size of your leg to hang off. Be methodical to start with, pay heed to the differences in species, and trust to your instinct. Failing this, you could go down the pansies route and give up rope access altogether and get your MEWP ticket ! Enjoy your climbing CerneARB and stay safe.
  7. Nature doing it's buisness ! Too rare a sight down here in the Balmy south. Well captured Skyhuck
  8. Part of the answer is in here Aesculin is a glucoside that naturally occurs in the horse chestnut Aesculus hippocastanum. Medical uses Aesculin is used in a microbiology laboratory to aid in the identification of bacterial species (especially Enterococci). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aesculin
  9. MB, We had tons of em too once upon a long time ago. This Green and Pleasant Land was once covered with up to 80% canopy. These days its sadly about 6%. Mans thirst for land clearance does occasionally need to be kept in check.
  10. Is there no equivalant at all at local municipal level ? Who protects the Veterans and Developement site trees etc, from you Big Tree Choppers ?
  11. Anna, it's a TSJ38, we have hired it in half a dozen times over the last 3 or 4 years. Normally if we decide a job merits using a platform, and If it's working then we use "Nelly" which is our Denka DL28 (the third picture). If you haven't already, you should check out the different views on using Platforms on the MEWP Usage Thread. Makes very interesting reading. FTR, if SkyHuck is reading, we don't ALWAYS use a MEWP. Climbing is our preferred option.
  12. Looks like the right tool for that job. What was the SWL for the cage, could you have got two people working in there? I always find two up really helps speed the jobs along as one can control whilst the other can consentrate on dismantling. Nice Work Buzz. :icon14:
  13. The second ones neh bad either. Much like the duck eye .
  14. I hear the Avian Property Market is plumiting faster than a Lammergeyer's lunch !
  15. Even our local bird population are giving backhanders to the Planning Department now ! You wouldn't believe how pretentious the North London Avian chattering classes are !
  16. Last year we got involved in the FR's Pheromone Trapping of OPM and Gypsy Moths. Luckily for us nothing was found at our site. Although this poor blighter (Black Arches) is closly related to the Gypsy and ended up stuck in the mud ! Did anyone else get involved and if so did you find anything of interest? http://www.forestresearch.gov.uk/fr/INFD-6W9JGQ
  17. Frog Bashing first thing on a Sunday Morning ! This day is going to be a great Day !
  18. Get a MEWP !...................... .....................Just Kidding LOL !!!!!!!!!!
