  1. That's impressive, quite a comitment .
  2. Tom, how many phases are planned for the retrenchment, and will there be set number of years between the phases? I had a meeting with Neville Fay today, we chatted abit around this process. He talked me through a series of photos of a phased retrenchment, that his company is carrying out on a Beech with both Merripilus and Ganoderma. The Tree has recently had it's third retrenchment within a dozen or so years, and is programmed for a couple more yet. The crown vitality is pretty impressive. Did you use NFP or NTP? Nice work btw .
  3. 4ft 7, no no............................. 4ft 8. .
  4. Au Contraire mon amies. The original Tuesday only, was actually filled by us elite, way before the second day was put together for you lesser mortals .
  5. Hello ACUF, Notes of the last two Glynn Percival/Bartletts seminars at Barchams have been available. Next weeks speaker is different, but I'll see if they're still doing the lecture notes on Cd rom. If so I'll try and get a copy and pass it on for you. David .
  6. Great pictures Geoff, were the rings with the decay from close to ground level or higher. Any evidence of fruiting bodies? .
  7. Bit of a daft question really, but do you have Cameraria in high numbers David? .
  8. If that's an Acer campestre, Ive definitely got to get up to your gaff .
  9. Are the Ceris hybridising with either the Roburs or Patreas? I've got a degree student looking for sites with the above, I'ts something I'm going to start looking at this year. .
  10. Nice shots David. What's the Robur/Patrea ratio at your site? .
  11. Thank you very much ahaha............................ Here's ours flowering last year .
  12. Appreciate the caveat, Rupe. I would agree to a point, that your description of drifting is feasable. However, not advisable, to anyone new to the Art (especially for you Dave ) of MEWPing. Don't you just love a fine opportunity to discuss a point of detail. Good Thread Tim .
  13. Not doubting the Guys ability, the whole job certainly looks like a slick operation. But adding a dynamic force on to and above a buckets SWL is not clever in my book. There is a pulley set on the Trunk for this section, but what's the reason for the bucket moving simultaeniously with the lowered piece toward the Chipper? If he's just admiring his handy work, then I stand ashamed and corrected. .
  14. Cute editing. Did the Oppo, use the bucket to rig down the last part of the canopy @ 2.31 ish ? That's what it looked like to me. .
  15. Was listening to Breaking Glass among other albums, whilst doing the ironing earlier. So here's Hazel being Kate, doing "Eighth Day" Reflections of a Ten year old dreaming of playing out the lives of his older siblings, whilst they were suffering the 'Winter of Discontent' as part of the rebelious teenage underclass. 16. Try using the Search facility above Rod. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5280&highlight=helmet+cams http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3097&highlight=helmet+cams .
  17. Willy Lotts Cottage. Have you been inside? it's amazing to see the Oak beams and timber construction still standing strong. .
  18. Did you note whether the Trees in the paintings are still there Andy? I haven't been there for 10 years or so, and didn't have the inclination at the time, to make the conection between the then study and what's there now. .
  19. Why is there still, so much disconnection between Land Management and Trees? With guidelines and regulations, how does this culture still exist? .
  20. Here's a copy of the draft, which was open for Public Consultation until Oct 08. BSI have not published it, as yet. http://lists.tree-care.info/sympa/d_read/uktc/BS3998/BS3998_DPC_1_8_08.pdf .
  21. Pseudotsuga menziesii ? Any close ups of the needles? .
  22. Your first shot reminded me of this Birch and Beech I saw on Wednesday. Did you note if there were any grafted branch on the coppiced Beech, Rod? .
  23. Haven't read it David. Appears to be Australian in origin Any one down under got it? Treesource have it @ £35.50 http://www.treesource.co.uk/acatalog/Trees___Built_Environment.html Here's some blurb, just in case you haven't seen it all. "This dictionary contains a complete list of terms used in the universal management of urban trees. Many of the terms are from Arboricultural science, while others are derived from unproven but commonly applied concepts. Some new concepts have been introduced where the existing terminology to describe trees was limited or nonexistent. In many texts concepts are only partly defined and so uncertainty can remain as to their exact meaning. Here the dictionary aims to provide clarity. The dictionary allows for broad application and use by a wide variety of people and conveys in plain language concepts that are sometimes complex. Most major terms have been cross referenced and diagrams have been added for greater understanding. While a number of pertinent botanical terms have been included many terms readily found within dictionaries of general plant sciences and botany have been omitted. Dictionary for Managing Trees in Urban Environments promotes a greater understanding of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, and will assist in the preparation of reports for the management of trees, procedures and planning instruments, such as Tree Management Policies and Tree Management Orders. Features Comprehensive dictionary for managing urban trees Has broad application by other professions Topic based with an index and cross references Drawn from modern research from around the world Provides terminology where in some instances none existed Consolidates meaning through extensive cross referencing " 232 pages, 245 x 170 mm Publisher: CSIRO PUBLISHING Publication date: January 2009 Paperback - ISBN: 9780643096073 - AU $49.95 Available for Purchase from: CSIRO Publishing http://www.publish.csiro.au/PID/5997.htm Booktopia - http://www.booktopia.com.au/dictionary-for-managing-trees-in-urban-environments/prod9780643096073.html IACA - http://www.iaca.org.au/managing_trees.html .
  24. It has the appearance of either Ganoderma applanatum or Ganoderma adspersum/australe. This may indicate the presence of an intensive white rot. I would advocate further internal investigation. Picus, Resistograph, Digi Micro Probe ect. What are the targets, Is that a drive or a foot path in the photos? Also looks like it's on a Sessile Oak, judging by the leaf stalks. .
