  1. Yes,it's a bit of a dilema.Maybe their is an alternative waiting to seize an opportunity in the market:confused1:
  2. Quite like the look of the swandri jackets for general out and about wear, but I hear that they are not made in New Zealand anymore, now made in China and not the quality they once was.Is this the case ? Would appreciate comments as they are a bit of an outlay.
  3. I do feel for you .My dogs are both getting on and have been through a long journey together.i do not look forward to the day we have to part.It will be sad day but I think you must be proud that you gave them the best days that you could.Memories are worth having, cherish that and be inspired to do the best you can for man and beast.

    Socks

I was once told that natives who walk bare footed all their life have very few foot issues so a few years ago once a week i'd walk to the paper shop in bare feet.It was quite liberating and was going well until I stood in the obvious and someone stood on my foot in the shop.Dont let that put you off though, when youv'e walked for a while in bare feet try putting your shoes on and go for a short walk, your feet feel ace.

    Socks

NO POINT HAVING COMFY BOOTS IF YOUR SOCKS DONT FOLLOW SUIT.ANY PARTICULAR MAKES SCORE HIGH? ARE YOU A 2 SOCK BOOT WEARER.I TEND TO GO FOR THE SPECIALIST WALKING STORES BUT STILL DONT THINK I'VE FOUND THE ULTIMATE SOCK:confused1:
  6. We are in a recession and people expect everyone to follow suit and reduce accordingly.most members of the public are ignorant of the level of expertise required to carry out safe tree work.some are willing to listen and value the knowledge you are willing to share and thankfull that you have come to their aid.usually within the first few exchanges you know what your dealing with.the type you dealt with will only understand or listen the hard way when they have to pick up the pieces.smile and walk away, you probably wont have had a cup of tea and you will have done something wrong.

It was a pleasure to deal with you Justin and me and Frank were more than happy with the gear we took away and the bits you are forwarding to us.Just to let you know I've checked my size in my stretch air and it's a large for the new hi-viz and Frank says to remind boot size 41.Thanks again Dave, Tree surgeon, wood surgeons, arboricultural contractors, Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, Scunthorpe, Grimsby, NPTC
  9. Wow,i bet you get many exotic varieties that i can't grow on my patch! But where's the compost heap?
  10. RIVER COTTAGE NEW SERIES CHANNEL 4 NOW.LETS SEE PICS OF YOUR OWN RIVER COTTAGE VEG PATCH.
  11. I guess the key here is to clarify to the customer what you are quoting for and what they should expect to achieve as a result.i'm sure we have all had a customer who keeps finding the odd root 'do you think you might be able to just get this bit out 'even though it's 10ft away from the stump.no problem we aim to please but this is stumpgrinding not every root grinding.
  12. so a customer wants you to grind a stump out.does this mean a- remove every last bit of the stump b-grind the heart out to well below ground level so they can grass it ,plant in it or pave over it c- remove the stump and follow every significant root that may be a problem to them in the future even though it makes their lawn look like the somme!
  13. I'd like to think that when a near miss occurs it reviewed and the findings incorporated into the daily procedures of a reputable outfit.Has there been an occurence when you thought..bloody hell I never thought that would ever happen, need to make sure we do this in future to make sure we protect everyone should it happen again.Maybe your best tips could prevent a near miss for those heading in that direction.
  14. shandwick bay on the moray, garden leads down to beach, ideal for dogs:thumbup1:
  15. Yep,and on the basis of this i've booked a holiday in the highlands over the new year.we hope to get snowed in so we don't have to come home early.should i take my own firewood?
  16. I've got into the habit of watching the re runs of monarch of the glen on itv 3 every night.the scenery is quite stunning and i like seeing the dogs, border terriers and springer spaniels, which i have myself.a great combination.much better than x-factor.
  17. Maybe you got yourself on approved contractor listings, got your lads trained up for utility work, obtained accreditation for health and safety or applied for approved vendor status? All helpfull.
  18. Lets say a company becomes established as a reputable outfit after a few years of mostly domestic work and wants to try and make some good commercial contacts. How did some of you who achieved this go about it and what barriers did you have to overcome along the way?
  19. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY UK SUPPLIERS OF TIMBERJACK PEAVEYS(MODIFIED CANT HOOK)

    Tall Hedges

Yep but if access is an issue?
  21. Cheers,as with all these things, better tried on,I'll have a look at APF.
  22. How do you tackle tall hedges.Do you rate such thing as henchmen platforms or do you use different systems depending on the job?
  23. Have used a few different jackets that claim to be waterproof, lightweight and breathable but generally all have been a disappointment.Would be interested to know if you have any fav jackets that aren't at all bulky, don't get in the way of ropes and tuck in nicely underneath the harness.
  24. Awesome prog. The guys who set the snares for the gorillas want stringing up.Wouldn't mind one of those silverbacks on the team though. No harness required, coronet cuts with their own teeth and no chipper, just set them on the waste while you scoff your bacon butty:laugh1:

    Arb vehicles

I don't know about you but I'm always wondering if I have the right combination of vehicles that suit most situations. The criteria is capacity for waste, tipping body, room for tools, off road capability. With this in mind I have a double cab ldv truck 3.5t and a l200 mitsubishi single cab.In combination they overcome most situations but I see pick ups with tipping bodies and other arb trucks that appear to cater for everything. On closer examination these combination vehicles tend to sacifice something.Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this and what they think the desired set up would be.Would be interesting to see pictures of set ups.
