  1. Can anyone tell me if species have to be mentioned on a preservation order? I know they have to get the species right if they put it on but is simply putting "deciduous tree" sufficient? Seems a bit shabby to me. Ta
  2. Tree of heaven. Ailanthus altissima.
  3. Here's a shoddy pic of the shoddy unbalanced one I found recently 🙂
  4. It's a well established tree Jon, don't think it's gone in recently. Probably should have had a better look about might have found some other treats.
  5. Cheers Matt, I'd hoped your curiosity might get the better of you. Was it an internet find or from a book?
  6. It's cardboard, anyone fancy another crack at the tree? 🙂
  7. Thanks for that, do you know what it is though?
  8. Not like any mimosa I've seen before and too big to be the fern, it's an evergreen and looking mature at about 6 meters. Didn't have my phone on site but the bark and branch form are pretty much Arbutus unedo, not familiar with any other arbutus but think that's most likely.
  9. From a private garden in Hampton, come across a fair few rarities that way. Yes there is a bit of paper and a desk in the pic for the overly observant amongst us🙂
  10. I was relatively green at the time, I can remember the climber up there taking the limbs off with a 066 and lumps fling off as he crashed it down. There's a video somewhere of the butt going over, prob on vhs.
  11. Friends of Deepdene | Aerial view of Deepdene House looking towards the grotto the one in the middle in front of the house.
  12. I helped in the removal of one in dorking 20 Ish years ago, it was about 3m diameter at ground level as I recall. We thought at the time it was one of the original 7 that were imported, no idea if that's true but it was massive.
  13. "Dentata" I believe. No hope with yours mind.
  14. Ha ha yep, I'm sure you'd have got there in the end. There's another above to test your skills though, should be a bit easier.
  15. They're all just in private gardens I know what this one is, the extra pics should help.
  16. Thanks Mattmoss good work.. As a show of my gratitude here's a picture of a big leaf Do you know that one? 🙂🙂🙂
  17. There's also the single seed bit. I'd kinda hoped they'd get a bigger sample
  18. I have every confidence in you Jon 🙂
  19. Can't rule out eleagnus but I'm pretty confident it's not ebbingei. No thorns or dust and leaf too small.
  20. Google image doesn't work on the phone Jon. Didn't work on it myself but the lack of angry looks, swearing and blood tells me no thorns.
  21. We reduced this yesterday so thought I'd give it a little bump. Anyone got fresh ideas??
  22. Love mine, had it 4 or 5 years now but it's all I know.
  23. Ta. I'll get better shots next time, don't think I'll be seeing my garden in daylight till the weekend though.
