  1. ? Nick are you sure!!! Think there's more than that?!
  2. And to think yesterday started off so well with coffee and bacon sandwiches!! I've had four load and the silver birch tested at 22%
  3. I have the grapple on my JCB 8018 supplied by the Bucket Warehouse it is without doubt the best attachment i have. From loading the 30 ton splitter and then back feeding the split timber to loading the processor it is a fantastic bit of kit. As mentioned in another post we also cleared a very large tree in next to no time without handling any timber. Don't hesitate buy it tomorrow!!
  4. Anymore pics of the finished carvings out there? I would love to see the bench of two hands finished.
  5. Hi Bob, PM sent but i'm not certain it worked so i'm on 07971 554958. Grab lorries available to collect from site. Regards James
  6. Hi, I've milled some oak and made some "cattle troughs" which i intend to plant flowers in. My question is what to treat it with i wish to keep it natural colour but don't want it to dull with age which i've had with other oak bits which i didn't treat. Thanks in advance!!
  7. Hi all, I need some help finding a thread i saw on here with a youtube link showing a mini digger with a 360 timber grab extracting cord from a wood. I've been looking through the search engine on here using loads of different words etc but no joy, any ideas? Cheers
  8. Well said. Always good to hear constructive comments that's why we're all here, maybe emotions get involved when we've spent large amounts of money and are disappointed with certain aspects of the machinery. I'm in the same position right now with some products with "issues" shall we say but i am pleased with the suppliers genuine interest in sorting them out - that's all i can ask from a supplier. I agree with a previous comment on the quality of steel these days, there is alot of crap steel out there at the moment. All the best to you both.
  9. Hi Nick,

I've got two load of hardwood cord at roadside needing to be moved from sg19 2hu to sg4 8pb in the next 4-6 weeks would you be interested and if so what would the cost be?

    Regards

  10. Hi Sam, How's the quitting smoking going? I gave up too at new year.... It's a real struggle but I do feel the difference already.
  11. Who's the other dealer Steve? I thought Marshalls were the sole agents, I bought the Dalen earlier this year and it's been ok no major teething problems.
  12. Diggers are great I use mine to sort the cord out into different size diameters so the processor has the correct size splitting knife it makes it quicker to process. But be careful as I've managed to smash two windows this year from cord rolling down the heap etc, and I've been driving them for 15 years!! It's also been so good loading the new splitter (30 ton binderberger) just need some snow now to shift all this wood.... Never known it so quiet at this time of the year.
  13. Binderberger with conveyor, spent the extra money to get what I thought was the best on the Market... Not been used much but in that time one of the welds on the guard has failed and I've been waiting months for it to be replaced. Also i'm disappointed with the amount of dust which ends up being blown at the operator.
  14. Dare I ask if leylandii would be any good??!! Just happens I have a job tomorrow in which I'll be felling lots of straight lengths approximately 18 inch stems which I could keep for free otherwise it'll be burnt. Thanks for most interesting comments, i take on board comments about the disadvantages of using green softwood - I presume the same would apply for oak? I have around 40 tons of oak which could be used for the framework it just seems a shame to use it for the frame which will be covered over with plaster board - on the otherhand it'll only go for firewood so it's not as bad as it sounds! The oak was standing deadwood so the moisture content will be lower than normal.
  15. Hi, we are firewood merchants so access to lots of good timber - now I'm just about to start building a very large "workshop" in my garden ( some might call it a granny flat!) I'm going to be building the main frame out of 4 x2 and 6 x 2 for the roof. I have a friend who has a mobile sawmill so is it feasible that I could rip down my softwood cord into the said sizes? Would I need to leave for a while once milled or could I use it straight away? Same question with the cladding I'm going to mill some oak I have into the feather edged boards. Thanks in advance
  16. I agree with Nick - I'm on the Herts/Beds border and we're £75 a cubic metre
  17. Had a customer last week phone up to ask if i had any wetter wood as the 2 year old ash was burning perfectly but was burning to fast...."Have you got any wood that will last longer?" I jokingly suggested that i have some oak that was still growing 4 weeks ago...."yes please may i order some of that" so i delivered the oak and i received a call today saying how lovely the oak is and can i have 2 more bags of that please!!! You just can't win!!!
  18. Lc packaging, they had a stand at the last show I went to
  19. When describing my logs I tell people they are loosely packed not stacked in the bags. Steve are you a fan of the airstripe bags? I'm ordering 500 tomorrow and still can't decide which ones to go for.
  20. I've gone from 100% loose loads to 85% bulk bags and 15% loose loads in less than a year, I was apprehensive at first but I just explained the obvious if the customer orders a "loose load" they can't be sure of value for money with the bags I tell them the measurements and m3. New customers especially appreciate it they know exactly what they are getting so there's no mis understandings, for the die hard existing loose load customers I still do loose loads. From my side I managed to raise the price in the change over to cover the increasing cord prices so I should be able to freeze my prices for this year and hopefully next. So does anyone use the airstripe bags? Most of my timber is ash so the moisture content is reasonably low to start with.
  21. I will be stacking them on pallets at ground level, then brick pattern on level 2 & 3 again on pallets to allow maximum airflow. They are stored in a barn, my thinking is with all the pluses in my seasoning process are the mesh bags just a luxury. I have a great rotation all my wood has been cut 2 years ago and in log form in a barn for at least a year. I'm just trying to remove the re handling process from loose logs in a barn to the bag. I'm paying £1.75 for my solid 900mm bags where the airstripe bags are £2.80 so I'm already jumping up a pound a bag so to go to mesh bags at £3.90 it starts getting expensive.
  22. Hi guys, after moving away from delivering logs in loose loads in favour of bulk bags last year I was wondering what experiences peoples have had with processing straight into bulk bags and leave to season. The bags which have 2 sides mesh and 2 sides airstripes are a pound more expensive than the 4 sides airstripes. Do the full airstripes bags allow the moisture to exit the bag without the wood going mouldy sufficiently enough? Cheers
  23. I don't want to get into a row about it... i was commenting on the fact you said it was "not very professional" we are all intitled to our own opinions. This is why i don't comment much!! LOL!!
  24. The voice of reason, I was thinking the same. Might you lose more custom from an unsatisfied customer with a loud mouth? Skyhuck ... Maybe a little unfair? I don't normally comment just read and take on board peoples comments but I have noticed farmer Ben seems a genuine fella trying to give the customer a quality product, I have the same issue with people selling wet wood transit load and claiming it is over 3 cubic metres for less than my truck load at 120 for 1.7 cubic metres. ( ps my truck is a isuzu grafter )
