  1. ok trying again . here is a link that just might work http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/686741/1/misty%20funguy?h=abb1fa
  2. Yes very funny, I took the photos on high res and they seem not to want to upload. How do I make um less high res.
  3. Travelling up to collect my daughter from the ferry port I spotted this on a main road roundabout. First thought it was chicken in the woods, but my fungie knowleadge is to say the least sparten. So here is your starter for 10 in the picture clue round.
  4. Situated in a large garden with no roads lines or anything else in the way. Thinking of deadwooding and a general reduction without taking the mickey and see what happens in the Spring. Great clientswho want the tree to stay for its amenity value.
  5. Thanks for the confirmation. Found a previous article on the site which pretty much covers the situation I have got, which is a great help.
  6. Visited a client yeasterday, with a very large Ash tree which looks very unhappy and clearly visable in the canopy, are what I have always refered to as coal fungus. Now this tree has issues hence the leaf loss, fungus and I guess you would call it stagg horn appearance. What to do? take out the dead diseased and damaged and hope the tree comes back or does the pressence of the fungus indicated firewood time.
  7. We use an on demand system, by which when the pressure drops ie you turn on the tap the pump starts up and supplies water. I would guess a 100 meter+ plus run. the pump has a thermal cut out should the feed pipe breck or other issue occur. This is our only suppy of water and it seems to work ok.
  8. Thinking of buying a chipper from these guys next week. It will entail a ferry crossing and a bit of running around and have found it difficult to get an exact address for them and just wondered if anyone on the forum had dealt with them and what their experiance has been with regard to sales and aftersales care??? Many thanks
  9. thanks for the advice.

  10. Just been sent a few photos froma potential client on the state of her euacalyptus, and have attached for comment. They have put vasaline into the cracks to ward off infection. Having read the posts a thank you to all previous contributors for extending my own knowleadge base on soil heave etc. Any views on what if anything ailes this tree and should we all be reaching for the vasaline!!!!!
  11. I find this method works well, although the eyepatch can cause problems
  12. Thanks for the offer, not realy in need of kit but with 4 days of being a tourist I need somthing to fill up the days, and thought a browze of the local traders if near by would kill an hour. Looks like the Pub and a walk around the harbour or would that be safer the other way around:001_tongue: But many thanks to those who replyed and should you see a red transit connect advertizing tree work in french it will be me.
  13. On holiday I hasten to add not pinching work from the locals.
  14. I find myself in Cornwall next week, near to Mevagissey (spelling), is there a kit supplier near by???? Thanks in advance
  15. Busy day great weather, sad old chestnut that now stood in the way of a barn build, last pick is Neil, showing of his nice new saw.
  16. Great place to work, I was there for a while on a job placement through DEFRA, although not quite on the tree side of things, ended up selling Christmas trees and servicing the dog poo bins around the place. Not ideal but at least I can put worked at Westonbirt on the old CV:laugh1:
  17. Point taken, but when in Rome. Local farmers apply the the total wipe out method, cut everything down and turn into firewood or the large circular saw on tractor arm technic, target prunning it is not. Both look bloody horrible. This was also the clients holiday home and the need to balance the books some what regarding our fee set against the gain of firewood was also a consideration.
  18. Could be just the thing for the promotional vids. BBC News - Compact camcorders for adrenaline junkies No plans on taking up basejumping though.
  19. 2 days on the job for 2 of us, quick tally at the end we think best part of 3and half cord of fire wood with retail value here of 170euro per cord green. Have made a note in my forward planner for 2045, for the re-pollard.
  20. Client wanted daylight in house and wood in the barn. Here oaks are regularly pollarded for firewood and this one had been missed for a few years. On inspection there was some rot in the crown and evidence of new growth on the main trunk after the client had removed a mass of ivy. The cold and prolonged winter has held back spring growth, so we went for it.
  21. Good to meet you today. Nice to get new perspective on things.

Now to price up laurel saplings.

  22. Just had my "love handles" lolered and quite enjoyed it. Failed though as not fit for purpose. The diets working a treat.
