  1. that ones not in my books but sounds good.. googled it and found similar growths.. thanks Ed
  2. nice ifor williams trailer, hope that one wheel lock isnt the only security, they can remove wheel nuts from that one and tow it away on 3 wheels, got a similar wheel clamp on mine and backed it up with ground anchors and hitchlock, also chaining the handbrake 'on' to slow them down.. sorry to go 'off subject' but them yellow wheelclamps dont cover your nuts..ahem, nice vented bags, look handy for seasoning.. Ed
  3. removable padded locking boxes all round then eh? the chipper is just a trailer with a purpose, so long as the weight limits etc are kept to.. why not?
  4. cool, could have done with that on last weeks landy trial, came 5th out of twelve in V8 baby.. got my eye on that piston cup.
  5. delivered a load of firewood 2m square just down an untreated road near me, had about 2.7t on the towball, then the trailer tried overtakin the landy.. by time id got it straight i was nearly going too fast for the next corner.. and yes id thought it might happen so put half tonne in landy to stabilise it. thats first work done in 3 weeks and might give it up as a bad job.. need money for tax bill 2 though. need the exercise too, starting to look a bit pregnant..Ed

  16. the lockshop near me told me graphite powder stops padlocks freezing up in winter, wish he'd told me two weeks ago, back to work weds and i'll be pouring hot water on each one, then when they dry they'll be getting powdered good..
  17. click reply, then 'go advanced', then the paperclip thingy, upload there then hit 'submit' could somebody please explain how to upload a vid too please.. thanks Ed
  18. the white pigment in the bark is 'betulin' best seen on the betula utilis where it rubs off onto your hand. been exploring the scottish birchwoods in the snow lastweek on holiday, loads of pictures of birch polypore and friends, found an unusual growth up one, pics posted later.
  19. cant see it being illegal to put spare on bonnet, mines there ('94 110hcpu) might not be illegal but cant see much past it even though its a 750 skinny road tyre (avon), need all the room we can get in the back though.. Ed
  20. got a customer we took down a rowan for back in may '09. they said it started leafing up nicely then suddenly the leaves disappeared and the bark on the trunk went brown within a couple of days so they called us to remove.. I noticed on every branch union tiny (2mm) across clusters of dark red very shiny little dots, not sure if they were insects or growths.. there was no evidence of poisoning from below ground as surrounding plants were unaffected, the garden pond was healthy (fish swimming etc..) anyway customer just emailed me wondering if i had ever found what it was because theyre now worried the same will happen to the nice rowan in the front garden.. any ideas? sorry no pics 'doh' oh it was about 15 to 20 yrs old.. thanks
  21. would that be the fraxinus excelsior youngii, are they a really small weeping tree unless grafted onto a straighter frax' excelsior stem?
  22. that leaves me looking for the weeping ash that the buds came from.. dont think iv seen 1 yet.
  23. think this is what you guys are looking for.. (please somebody let me know how to upload from youtube) go to youtube,, type in 'SPORT CLIMBERS' and scroll down a few vids till you find hunting and shooting gear.. its a pair of climbing spikes available for the avid huntsman, make sure your sound is turned on.. oh if you find it before i work out how to upload then feel free to upload yourself.. thanks Ed
  24. yeah it was a good size for a cherry, been told its usually prunus avium (wild cherry) used for the roots with a flowering top grafted on when young, took this one down as the roots were pushing the turf up and heading towards the house.. also heard the victorians grafted weeping ash to the top of ordinary ash to get huge cascades of weeping ash, anyone seen any?
  25. splitting firewood yesterday, came across this cherry graft, think it was a kanzan on top, what rootstock would it have been? it was grafted at the base of the trunk, the spreading out of the grain was the wide base of the root.. erm that would be me taking the photos while the wood is upsidedown..Ed
