  1. Little eucs made awkward by the wind.
  2. Nice pics.
  3. He was going to pick his wife's car up after am service, they must have just thought he worked for her. Now its cost them a lot of money.
  4. Looks a nice job to get stuck into.
  5. No, no the old country way - just one match and a bit of newspaper. Oh and 5 litres of parraffin, 3 tyres , 20 litres of old sump oil!
  6. A very wealthy customer of mine, really down to earth bloke, his wife always drove top spec Mercedes - changing them every couple of years. The last time we worked for him, I noticed she had a Lexus. I asked him what made him change, he said the last time he went to the Merc dealer he just went in the overalls he wears when he's working in the livery stables they've got. He said they treated him like s***. God knows how much money that dealership will have lost out on in the future because of that! Terrible way to do business.
  7. I thought about that when we got those two set up! The ground is really wet, its an old mill race we're renovating full of willow, alder and the odd horse chestnut. The ground is saturated, when you fell anything of any size onto it - you can feel it wobble under your feet from the impact rather than shake, weird feeling.
  8. Getting the fire really going.
  9. Thanks for that.
  10. Neat job.
  11. I think that although planting new woods, shelter belts etc is important, it is more important for us to conserve our ancient woodland. As once it is lost, it is gone forever since it is impossible to replace. There should be more education, policy direction and money aimed at doing so in my opinion.
  12. I've found worms living in forks and cavities in trees before and wondered how they got up there, but never frogspawn.
  13. Its a calculated risk we all take when we do roadside work, to use TM or not. Your right about the customer, but then they're not the one who wouldn't be trading any more if there was a serious accident as a result of not using it.
  14. Is there a copy of the regs which cover this I can get hold of?
  15. I was looking at the thread JackTaylor, the young lad still at college posted the other day, showing pictures of his private & college work. There were a few posts regarding working in/near the highway and having to stop traffic by standing in the road and the road rage etc that can ensue from this. Can someone clarify what the law is? I was told that it is illegal to stop traffic by just standing in the road with your hand up even with warning signs and cones. You can only use traffic lights or Stop - Go boards, in addition to cones and warning signs.
  16. I've found the best thing to do if someone starts having a go at you when you are in the tree, is just to ignore them completely and keep going. It drives people absolutely crazy, the fact that you can't even be bothered to listen to them, never mind talk to them.
  17. The other problem is that all recorded accidents with a chainsaw are classed as being accidents within tree work, regardless of whether it was a farmer, builder or householder. Which means that on paper the level of accidents looks much higher than it would be if it where just chainsaw accidents in arboriculture and forestry.
  18. I remember years ago, these women walking their little kids to school past where we were dismantling some trees and one of them shouted at us to stop cutting them down. Because there was a ''fox's nest'' in one of them. She could see an old dray was what it was.
  19. That wasn't really the point I was making, but yes he will have done.
  20. Doing this job today, 3 medium size sycamores (60-70') to come out in this relatively small garden and 2 other sycs to crown lift and 1 horse chestnut to be unpruned. All trees were TPO'd and I'd met the tree officer and we'd agreed what work could be done and got the permission in writing. Loads of the neighbours kept coming out and asking, why they were coming out? Did we have permission to take them down? You shouldn't be allowed to take them down! Etc, etc and unfortunately we were working in a green lane at the back of the garden as the trees were right on the boundary and it was much easier access. It struck me as I looked at the gardens of the people who had come out and complained, and I made sure I got a good look from up in the tree. None of them had any trees in their gardens! Not even ones they'd planted themselves. Why is it often the case that the people who make the most noise when they don't want you to take a tree down, haven't even one on their own property?
  21. Thanks for that, I've started taking a camera to work alot more since I discovered arbtalk. I always used them when I worked abroad and have lots of photos from then, but never in England much. But I'm going to use it now on any interesting jobs and put any decent pics on here.
  22. That wasn't me climbing, I use ali Bashlins with C pads. I use a Canon Power Shot A470, cheap & cheerful.
  23. The customer wanted it.
  24. Oak dismantle near water.
