  8. Thats exactly what I thought .. when I was considering doing it I saw a local tree surgeon working and I pulled up and asked if he sold his wood because I was considering starting a firewood business .. he said that if I did he would put me out of business straight away Competition improves standards & service for customers....never be afraid of competition but inbrace it:thumbup:
  9. One bit of advice i would give is, if there is anyone else doing firewood within 10 miles of you, dont bother, as you'll both end up with half a business and neither of you will make any money. Not at all!!!!!!!!!! just make sure you do things better than your competitors:thumbup:

  13. All comments are welcome! However, the name of my business is West Country Firewood, and it is a partnership. It is not the only business I have, and SK Group of Companies is the name of the bank account used, ie to whom cheques are made payable, which simplifies all the book-keeping. Therefore, it is used not in the legal term, but in the common term, in which partnerships are deemed to be companies, (as an alternative word for businesses, firms or enterprises etc), which is a legitimate use in this instance. It is on the truck and our literature so it does not appear to customers that we are asking them to make the payment to somebody else. Now that would seem dodgy! It also lends people to ask "What are your other businesses then?"....
  14. Would highly advise pressure threated posts as tantalized isn't lasting long now. its one and the same thing!!!!!!!!!
  15. Ive got a cabstar to deliver logs in but this will come in handy to deliver logs in when winter sets in as the cabstar is crap in wet weather The firewood business is setup as a partnership as we have other businesses Its the "sk group of companies"

  18. Key to selling firewood I reckon is dont spend any money on it, keep it simple, use the kit you have already and get the timber for free. And there was me thinking the key to selling firewood was to supply a good seasoned product to the customers requirements! how silly of me:001_tt2:
  19. If you are serious about starting on a tight budget, forget about image and cool machinery, that comes later...... can you start on a tight budget? ive spent 40k so far not including the hilux
