  1. I reckon the reason the vibes FEEL better is because of the finer chain, so allowing for this it makes sense. I really like the saw, for the vast majority of the reductions i do this is going to be awesome, tipping out on a light reduction all day is going to be so much easier and loving the narrow bar tip for detail/fine workin forks or close unions
  2. rough it out with a gransfors hatchet [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ncMNDMl2E]Making a Bowl Using a Gransfors Bruks Kubben Hatchet - YouTube[/ame]
  3. its all about the twisted grain in the root crown, no more than 3ft needed above root i would guess, and a pure guess, not much sapwood in older walnuts, mostly heart

  7. robinia is a wood that surprised me, the romanians planted it and used it for schnapps barrel making and said it was finer than oak for barrels:thumbup1:
  8. PH not an issue with beech and chalk:thumbup1: even if it was its a very small trace amount that would rinse away to soil
  9. John said you remind him of himself when he was younger, says your moving much more fluid in the tree:thumbup1: No surprise to me, I knew you had the skills, just needed the hours in:thumbup1: youll go far kiddo:biggrin:
  10. Boss just bought one so had a little play, tommorow it will be going up with me, and i love it, sweet sweet saw, bravo stihl, you needed this after the new 201 which IMO is a poor performance

  18. I wish i had enough to save! by the time ive done my pti in april and got enough scraped for the pro dip in september ish thats every ounce of spare gone. guess it will just have to wait till i get a lotto win!
  19. I have reduced full sized mature Fastigiate hornbeams with the old Sandvik bow saws, they are a great tool in the right hands
  20. Always useful to know a few lads around that way willing to do some labouring:thumbup1: best of luck, and if we need a hand when were out that way (fairly often) I will give you a buzz:thumbup1:
  21. there is some justification but it tends to be sunscald, which is predominant on beech having a sunny aspect (south facing) and being over pruned. I was told recently by one Member that to chalenge accepted wisdom one has to be a moron, so up to you who you chalenge and how, dont take my comments seriously, I am a moron!
