  1. From the movie, Wrong turn alternatives deliverance,Virgil "you sure got a pretty mouth!":laugh1: anyone for a bit of catfishing, florida style!
  2. good stuff! shall ahve one in may when i re do the old mortgage!
  3. Ni hydrides are the best batteries for cameras in my mind?
  4. The man aint wrong, always get the best memory cards you can afford, its like in the old days of film speed and quality, you pays your money and takes your chances
  5. This cam has wicked trsining potential, what better way for students to see how it is done than through the eys and hands of a skilled tree worker. Awsome bit of kit and I want one! be great if you was twos up and could get footage of eachother doing certain rigging reducing techniques. whats the battery life and memory capacity like?
  6. Seems to me he should have let be after they ran, and gone back to phone the police and make sure his family was re assured. Would we all do the same? Trust me, if I had caught the scum that robbed me.... "Munir Hussain, who trained as an engineer, came to Britain in 1964 and founded a company that employs nine people and with a turnover of £2.4 million. He is a former chairman of the Wycombe Race Equality Council. " What relevance? we are all of equal importance.
  7. If you listen! what I am trying to suggest is that there should not be an option to hire a treeworking individual UNLESS he is registered at a central (government body) recognised level. it SHOULD be he case that you can only do the job if you was a AAapproved contractor, whilst it doesnt garauntee good standards it does ensure that we are competing on a level playing field and that the Lop and top brigade are excluded But there needs to be some "assitance" for the small two man band, often these people do the highest standards because its thier business instead of a massive firm cutting costs or finding it difficult to find enough (CP's) to employ resulting in poor work and worse
  8. The winter blues huh try this "For a long, long time I wondered how I had come to be an Arboriculturist. In the harsh cold wind of February clutching a branch in the snow and rain 80ft or more above the ground, when I ached from hauling cordwood up a steep embankment and the older I get the more I wonder! Just when the winter has worn you down and your spirit is at its lowest ebb, as if the gods could hear your prayers, the winter cherry comes into bloom. At last a glimmer of hope of spring, its close now, just hang on, it’s nearly here. Then spring comes, nature’s great display, first the Prunus Pissardii flowers before leaf, and the bright green leaves of lime and beech. Each year I work each year it hurts, but when winters pass there is no greater place than the woods in spring, and just as the woods come back to life, thousands of woodsmen are renewed of vigour. It is this connection to the ebb and flow of nature’s rhythm that makes the life of a woodsman, an Arboriculturist, a spiritual one. It is a hard life to be an Arborist and not a path for many, it takes a lot of heart to be a woodsman, but if you ask one he will tell you the same as I, I wouldn’t have another life" Just try to think of why we do it, it always helps my vigor through winter:biggrin: and no i never worked for dryads
  9. Unfortunatley the RFS cant be done via distance learning, it used to be so but it was considered too much online! like i said in another thread though, I couldnt be doing the tech cert, was too basic, so no option to do the dp i applied for a degree with APL, did my C.V and profile, they asked me to do an entry assigment to prove my ability and was in, so if you do know your onions you coukd at least try that one? Be warned though, it is an in depth level, youll need to be well prepaired for the sylibus, I am just about handling it, and i do mean JUST! but i have a distadvantage having no academic training or background, if youve been into courses for a while youll get it right. the academic stuff is not the same as the practical stuff, and the knowledge is different too. The courses teach you how to write it down, do the scientific method, but you can be as lost with the real stuff when you finish as i am with the paper dstuff now. A BHC dont mean your a great consultant, just a qualified one! trust me I know, I meet them a lot!
  10. My ropes come from honey brothers, they are ALWAYS with a id label serial number etc
  11. well said, for me the move was always planned out, i am just fullfilling that which I promised myself long ago. i love my work truly I do, as for experiance and speed.... I am growing increasingly tire of working for those that feel they know best, making me fell to ground trees that have bees in them when the tree could be pollarded and saved for habitat, felling trees that could be left as monoliths for habitat and felling 300plus year old oaks cos theres a teeny crack in a house. I am moving on from that and know I can and will save more trees and make a bigger difference via the consulting and academic route. and more importantely, my health will be preserved, in good order, and everyone that knows me will always say that i was the best climber, they will never say I got old and faded away! i couldnt handle that! i forgot to add, i am on the verge of losing my home because I am funding my degree and books courses etc, thats dedication, procrastination is what i did for WAY to long, if you want the education, you have to really want it, there are no excuses.
  12. Wicked, awsome, pucka, dude, wheres my plane ticket!
  13. now theres an ides, never did like writing on the electrical tape!
  14. You dont score extra points for triple lunges do you?
  15. for a start all climbing ropes come supplied with a unique serial number and label attached, if not dont buy it! secondly, if you want to replace a label, just use some white insulation tape (electrical) write a (UIN) on it unique identification number and then seal it in a piece of heat shrink. As long as your kit is individualy identifiable you should be o.k, as long as your fulfilling the regular LOLER checks and doing your own ones inbetween.
  16. And i thought it was called lunge club, so all (posed) images qualify then? as i was under the impression thr rules was it had to be a lunge position, mmm rules of engagement need clarity!
  17. Yes this is also my dream, oh a landy with a winch, snorkel and all things for living in the woods and having a splendid time in natures great places! my time will come! monkeyd is a lucky toad! im coming after his job! LOL:001_tt2:
  18. mmm Hong kong, would be an educational experiance for certain, maybe in a few years time I will be open to such a thing, its a big old world out there.
  19. Quality! ten out of ten for observsation:lol:
  20. A little tip for those interested, when shooting snow scenes. Snow reflects a lot of light, tricking the cameras light meter into down rating the exposure value, over exposing the image from between 1-2 stops ensures the snow is white rather than under exposed and grey. nice snow pics guys. BRRRRRRR
  21. (extract) AGAINST THE CURRENT The Paragon of Animals: Reflections on the Human Perception of Intelligence By Captain Paul Watson "What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel! In apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world! The paragon of animals!" William Shakespeare, Hamlet The human species may not be the paragon of animals as Hamlet so eloquently described to us. There is another species on this Earth perhaps more deserving of such lofty praise. It is ironic that science, in its pursuit of knowledge, may soon lead us to understand that we are not what we believe or desire ourselves to be, that we are not the most knowledgeable life-form on the planet. Biological science is provoking us to shatter our image of human superiority. Confronted with new realities, we may be forced to change our perceptions. For the first time in our history, a small group of scientists stands on the threshold of communicating with a non-human intelligence. Probing the oceans instead of deep space, they are searching for an alternative terrestrial intelligence. Astronomers devoted to SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) keep our collective inquisitive ears tuned for signs of sentience from space. At the same time, cetologists observe, document, and decipher evidence that points to a profound intelligence dwelling in the oceans. It is an intelligence that predates our own evolution as intelligent primates by millions of years. Furthermore, it is an intelligence that may prove to be far superior to us in terms of complex associative, linguistic, and survival abilities. Dr. John Ford's patient monitoring of the speech of orcas off British Columbia has revealed distinctive dialects between orca populations, so distinctive that it is possible to link a captive animal of unknown origin with its long-lost family in the wild. In the cold waters off Patagonia, Dr. Roger Payne thrilled the world with his recordings of the songs of the humpback whale. Behind the aesthetic value of whale music, Payne's research has revealed fascinating insights into the complex and highly sophisticated language of whales.
  22. nature is indeed a magic, i am going to paste another article in here that you might enjoy dean it is truly in the spirit of the theme of inclusional thinking
