  5. Hi Veners, Yes, Turkey Oak and Cork Oak do naturally hybridises and the result is commonly called a Spainish Oak. One of the most commonly know hybrid is the Lucombe Oak. Not 100% sure about the deformation on the bark. Thanks, Ian
  6. Hi Sean, There are hundreds of different Phytophthora’s and there is no way of telling the different between two types with out looking at samples in a laboratory. On Alder you will have a very high chance that it is Phytophthora alni or it could be a type of Pseudomonas. There are testing kits available to work out if ifs either Phytophthora or Pseudomas but not what type it is. It doesn’t make that much of a different as the treatment is the same for both. You will have to apply a Potassium Phosphite as a soil drench / soil injection at a dilution rate of 1:100 and at a rate of roughly 2 litres per square metre out to the drip line. Also paint the solution on to the stem where the points of bleeding are. It may be to far gone, but it is worth a try. Hope this helps, Ian

  10. Hi Dean, If the road has been salted over the winter its would of increased the salinity levels in the soil and will inhibit the release of magnesium from the soil. I would recommend to use a low or no sodium containing fertiliser and an application of Epsom salts and Dolomite limestone. Hope this helps, Ian
  11. Evening Sloth, One thing to remember is that the standard is not exclusive used by arbs, it has been targeted at a range of different professions. My view, is that the standard doesn't suggest that arbs will be contacted about to make comments on soil investigations for foundation design but, would and should be expected to have a basic understanding. The type of soil will have knock on effect on the type of new planting etc... Hopes this helps, Ian
  12. Evening Tony, Sorry, but you must be an ISA Certified Arborist in good standing before you can do BCMA. Thanks, Ian

Evening James, Species Minimum Yield Class off the top of my head are, Douglas Fir - 16 Japanese/hybrid larch - 12 Sitka -14 Yield class is stand/area specific as some many factors affect the yield class. 21. Morning Gents, Our friends over on UKTC have had this debate recently and one of their members posted these spreadsheets. I sure he wont mind them being re-posted? One based on calculating multistems using the basal diameter and a multiplier of 10 and the other deriving a notional equivalent single-stem diameter by using the sum of the cross-sectional areas. Thanks, Ian xlsrsmf1TFuvf.xls xlso3teN9tYBw.xls
