  6. Hello everyone, as the title says me and the mrs are going next year, it has always been a life-time ambition to visit OZ. At the moment i'am working in vienna, it's a wicked place, good work etc but the problem is me and my mrs cannot speak german and our future prospect's are very limited because of this. Anyway, for all the people who have made the trip to OZ, what things did you have to take into account? sorry if these seem a bit personal. :- How much savings did you have to go? :-What kit will i need? :- Can i beleave the hipe about loads of work? :- What are the posibilties of getting sponserd? :-Cost of living (heard that is very expencive there) :-where can i stay once i get there? Thank's for reading, any help will most appreciated. Kind regard's western
  7. I agree with you frank, so many grey areas. At the end of the day we are just TWO BIT tree/wood cutters arn't we!? why should there be comprehensive trainning for us:confused1:
  8. sorry i should of elaborated on what i mean't, and you took the word's out of my mouth, with the cs31 to 39 as part of the apprenticeship scheme.
  9. Totally, this is why our game is so saturated with numtys!!!!!!! these are the people who make problem's, taking on job's to big for one's ability etc i've got my nptc's i must be good:laugh1: i use a top handle as an when it is perfectly safe to do so!!!
  10. Ok, i've been following this thread for a while now and seen some very intresting view's! IMO i think training should be longer! i mean not a day or two i mean 5year apprentership's! and only apprentership's NO NPTC'S shorts courses i think this is the problem with so many accidents , three week's and you can call yourself a tree surgeon i think this is totally ludicrous!!! seeing as this trade is one of the most dangerous you can do, you cannot train to become a plumber, sparky, brickey in just three week's but you can to be a tree worker:confused1: . things need to change big time!!!!
  11. Hello DM, and welcome to ark talk. If i was you just try and learn as much as you can from your boss atm, e.g climbing knot, climbing tecniques etc, the list goes on. See if you can get a partner to go climbing with, because it could be a little risky on your own to start with.
  12. i aspecially like the first pic, fair size lump your taking out:thumbup:
  13. not cool posting something like that mate:thumbdown:
  14. And the rest!!! there's more tree surgeons in the uk than there are tree's:lol::lol:
  15. hiya fella, are you from merther are by any chance?
  16. well said that man:thumbup: its all so true:lol:
  17. I think a practicul interview AKA trial day is best. Anyone can sit in front of a desk and give it the big guns, i can dismantle the bigest badest tree in the world, tell you what! come in tomorrow and show me simples p.s for free:thumbup: if you deliver you can have a job.
  18. spot on, i did the same thing, the answers are in the examination room:thumbup:
  19.
  20. To be honest i think a trial day is a good thing for everyone, i think this should be pushed more by employers. The potential employer can see if he has a good future employee and the potential employee can see if he's going to have a good boss. As for working for free, i think this is good idea, the guy can see your keen. there are so many people out there looking for work employer's can pick and choose who they want not the other way around. you should count yourself lucky you even had a trial day, he could of just said no when you called him. you got the job so why have you got a problem? do you feel hard done by because you lost a days pay? sorry if this is abit harsh but try and see it from an employers point of view. regards western.
  21. i just don't think the test apply's to tree worker's, i think there's one question in the test about chainsaws, it goes SOMETHING like this :- who should use a chainsaw on site? A) any one who can start one. B) some one who's not trained. c) some one who has been trained. I think that some's up the whole test.
  22. hiya mate, you will need a white card if your on the tool's. it says on my card tree surgeon contruction related industry. The test is a complete insult to anyone's integence, i think it's a licence to print money!!!!
  23. thanks for that mate, ive always considerd milling, a good way to divercify your company. at work when we do a dismantle job all the timber just gets logged up for fire wood and i think it's just a wast.
  24. nice bit of milling there mate, just out of interest, what chains do you use? are there special milling chains on the market?
