  1. Hi, Well, I have a page in my note book saying all areas so YES! I aimed it at the north west as I am born and bread in Cheshire and know the area very well. I work in Delamere forest so this is why it is mentioned so much on the site. It would be great to be open to all areas. I sent a generic email out to all school in my area and I got a great response. The idea is to go to the website, download and print what you want, go to the forest and carry out the activities. Woodland Trust do the same thing but we all love a good competition. Any ideas, shout up.
  2. Hi, I did the level 3 national award in forestry and arb at reaseheath and this was perfect for entry level. I was lucky enough to have experience before the course but there was lots I had never seen or done before. The course ranged from soil science to tree climbing and aerial rescue. Tree biology is a big subject and other units we did were nptc stump grinding, wood chipper, chainsaw, mewp and spraying. Well worth it. All assignment based too no exams.
  3. Hi all, I have mentioned the site on here before but some people only log on once a month etc. So here goes: Last year I started to plan a website which would provide young children with an exciting and educational look into forests of great britain. And a year later the plans on A4 Notepaper have finally come to life. I am not sure if I can post links in posts on arbtalk but im not a business trying to make money out of you all so here it is: Home - ForestExplorers.co.uk Think of the children here! :-) The site is live at the moment with a preview of what it will look like when fully active in 2012. So far I have around 400 schools signed up in the north west of england. The reason to this post is that I will need as much help as possible. So far there are 4 of us (all found on arbtalk) I need people who can spare a few hours to do a little bit here and there. I am looking for people who can help with the website I am looking for people who can help out creating activities I am looking for people who can help coming up with new ideas I am looking for people who can help with special subjects You get the idea! No website experience needed, you just need some spare time and connection to the internet, Even if you help out once a year, it all helps. If anyone likes the sound of my project and would like to help out in any way shape or form then please do get in touch with me. Just like TESCO say: Every little helps :-) Thank you for your time reading this post. Lee:thumbup1:
  4. I have a list; Gary Barlow, Gerry marston, duke of Westminster and Melanie sykes!
  5. hi all, I have a large laurel hedge to trim in northwich and I need a chipper and a van to take all of the trimmings away, I will trim the hedge onto large sheets and drag them out to the front. I just need someone with a van and chipper to turn up, chip up and drive away, I don't have anywhere to tip so who ever comes needs to find it a good home. The hedge is around 2.5m tall by 25m long. I think it will take no longer than couple of hours to chip. I have my chipper ticket so I can help chip up if needed. If anyone can give me a price that would be great. Address is Hartford in northwich Cheshire. Access for chipper is excellent. Only catch is I need to get the job done in the next 2 weeks, thanks all, i am Out tonight but text me 07851965163 or email [email protected] , Lee
  6. Hi All, Anyone want to help me shift a load of laurel trimmings in Northwich Cheshire?? I am running out of places to tip and I am currently without a van! :-( PM me or TXT 07851965163 NO RUSH!
  7. Hi all, need a chipper for 20 minutes in Harftord, Northwich. Needs to be today, must take chip, if anyone is available please ring me on 07851965163 Thanks Lee
  8. Hi all, I am working on a new website aimed at children ages 4 to 11 which will provide education about forests etc. I am fully aware that the FC and woodland trust do a similar thing but I want to create my own with the help of others. And then get local contacts for the areas. I am looking for any ideas, input etc. and also volunteers to help keep the site running. All you need is a bit of spare time and access to the internet. No web design skills required. Full credit will be given to any work etc. A few people have already contacted me from ArbTalk and this is great, maybe some more of you will get involved. I dont think I can post the website address on here but if you want it, PM me. Nothing much online at the moment apart from a form where you can register for updates. I plan to have the site up and running in the summer. I hope this project does work out well as far too many kids these days would rather sit on the Xbox 360 or their i-phones than go out and play with twigs and cones!! And also hope to cover ages 11+ at a later date. Sponsorship so far will be from Shell UK & Adventure Forest Ltd Any firms out there want to sponsor the site?? Anyone who would like to get involved should PM me or email me: [email protected] Thank you for your time, Lee:001_smile:
  9. Hi all, I will keep this post short and simple. I am working on a project website dedicated to the forest for children. Too many children prefer an xbox to a tree! the site is http://www.forestexplorers and will launch in the summer. I am looking for volunteers to come up with ideas and input into the site. Any helpers? please email me: [email protected] regards
  10. Take a look at this, seen one, used one, they are very good.. Lock all your saws, climbing gear way etc.. Sitebox: Secure storage for tools, fuel and equipment. Cleveland Sitesafe. lee
  11. All my saws (well theres only 3) have my name on them done with a soldering iron. I know you could just replace all the casings etc but these sticky fingerd people usually just sell on straight away, or stole to order etc.. Not arsed about names etc.. My old boss had 2 large "site safe" boxes which were really good. Locked away in an alarmed concrete building with 3 decent padlocks on the door (all different) oh, and a good night vision cctv camera looking right at the building. It costs alot of money but pays for itself in the end. What I do is keep my saws together with a bike lock around the handles, and then lock them away etc..
  12. Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981! WOW! Now im getting excited, I am not familiar with this at all but when it comes to learning something new, I get very excited!!! SAD,, My Garden is tiny, we have one of the biggest gardens on the estate as our house is part of a "Mews" of 4 houses, we are at the end!! Garden is about 10mtrs x 10 mtrs.. Been looking into Espalier hedges over the last few days and I think maybe this is not for me. Looks very nice and fun to do but its not really going to screen us, more of an ornamental feature. Quite tempted to do it along another fence down the side where we park the car. As this is not overlooked but would suit well. Will see. I dont have much tree work on yet so still keeping myself busy working at GoApe in Delamere Forest, In my spare time I really must get the garden looking like a garden again. So little space, so many ideas. Shame you cant buy a ready grown 15ft hedge, fits together like a jigsaw, trims itself every 6 months and tidys up at the end.. That would be nice..
  13. Thanks for the info so far, Have never thought of a Espalier hedge, never done one before but there was one at the college I went to (Reaseheath) and it looked pretty cool. Will do some research....
  14. We would want it atleast a foot wide but we want in the future to grow it as tall as the windows overlooking etc..
  15. Hi all, I have 100's of Sycamore saplings growing in my borders which I have put some into little pots already. If its growing, I will keep it :-) Been looking a sticking a hedge around the garden as we live on a new estate and are very overlooked. Many curtain twitchers on our estate!! I know its not going to grow overnight but what is everyones opinions on using Sycamore as the hedge. I have seen it many places before and I know that Field Maple is much better but I already have it so want to use it!! Im just thinking about spacing etc.. I plan to pot as many as possible and wait until they look like trees before I plan to hedge them!! I have just painted the fence so a hedge would be finishing touch... What you think guys? silly idea or should I go for it?? Lee :-)
  16. Hi all, An old friend of mine who I recently got in touch with on Facebook is on the lookout for some long grain Yew. He says he will pay cash If anyone would like his email address, please message me. Not something im into but im sure someone will see this post with info.. Regards
  17. Hi all, Im selling spare stretch air material so you can fix your expensive pants. Its been quite popular on ebay so far... 3cm x 3cm patch £3.00 + £1.00p&p PM me for details. I also have some of the knee material left so contact me if you require.. Lee
  18. Yeah you are right, it never gets leaves. Has buds on them in a "zig zag" pattern, Been looking and asking about this for over a year now and still no definate answer, even the guys at the forestry commission office do not know... If you ever find yourself in Delamere Forest (Cheshire) walk past the GoApe site and there you go: BANG, its everywhere.
  19. Hi all, I work in Delamere Forest (not for F.C) and this plant is everywhere, about 2 foot high in some places but mostly about 1 foot high. Spotted it last year but this year it looks alot more dense. Any ideas folks?
  20. Love the posts so far, Yes you are right, they are grenade size!! As for needles, there was 1 left inside, it was "borne" in pairs. Is borne the correct word? it's been a while since college (a year) Very long about 4 inches. But it was brown and as I said it was all that was there. He brought 2 home with him. I have one in the garden and he has one in his. Maybe there are more needles on his but im sure its just a 2 needled one!!! Keep posting, very unusual this one.
