  1. guy i was subbing to said he didnt wanna quote for it, even though people just said stick it in your diary and come and do it cause it needs doing. so i said well im well up for it so just gotta get the figures together. im thinking you, your transit, that guy his landy and chipper fire into back of both trucks. see if i can sort out a farmers big 10ton trailer for timber and a crane and i reackon we should crack it in a day
  2. that is one impressive sized tree looks like a nice job to get hope you had some big machines to move them huge logs for ya!!
  3. its the only way to do that cut from that position with 2 hands if you act it out you'll see
  4. cracking pics there mate, proper job
  5. absolute bitch of a willow pollard got 2/3rds of it down today, just the back section to go, going to have to be speedlined over a river. was pollarded in the past but really has been left for a few years! grown over the 3 gardens all had to come in the garden the tree is in wasnt cool that it had grown into the conifers real arkward one. still cracking day for it at least had some sun after i smashed the tops off
  6. looked a good old job ian, ps ive sent the quote for that big beech survey, so when they get it they will send it off to there head office. ill let you no if i get the go ahead as soon as i no.
  7. what pictures were taken then ian and why do they like to promote ***** work i havent had any letters or messages as of yet.
  8. are you on about the change of hands at 2m20s? if so that was purely the wind blowing me out of position so i wanted to hold my rope, also as the peice was swinging round that way if i needed to push it away.
  9. cheers for that i like to hear it, that groundy is terrible for sticking loads of wraps on, why i try and cut small peices with him, he just wont listen at all. the 1 handed cutting is definetly something im doing wrong though i need to be more disiplined in trying not to do that,
  10. i very rarely get to do pollards its either fell or reduce round here, interesting learning little things like that though ahhh that point in your life when you get to drinking sherry say no more
  11. by this are you meaning leaving the little epicormic shoots?
  12. when i pollard i personally like to take all growth off it, but im far from a expert on pollards. its not going to be good for the tree reducing a big ash by 50% but alot of people on here would do it im sure. percentage reductions some peoples 50% is actually more like 30% and so on hard to judge by a percentage. at the end of the day if you do all the finishing cuts right and do the 1/3 rule and leave it looking a nice shape, whos to argue with it.
  13. any excuse to get in her bedroom with ya chainsaw hey , some people
  14. with pruning you want to bring back the branch to a growth point no smaller than 1/3 of the size of the cut on that branch if that makes sense. pegs are a no no. pollarding there is different kinds there is straight stem pollard, which is basically a straight up clean pole, or you can do a pollard with staffolds ie leave some main frame work on the tree.
  15. did that come down in todays winds?
  16. nice job, nice lunch, did you fell the remaining half of the tree aswell?
  17. cheers mate im really getting into my rigging finally, (now im officially not a stubid teenager ) it just seemed to finally click in my brain how i want things to run, i mean none of the trees ive done have been big but i really cant wait to get a oppotunity to get on really big stuff
  18. couple of pics i forgot i took, shows it had a fair amount of decay in it aswell which i wouldnt have thought it had.
  19. wasnt big enough tbh to get any heat on it, plus i havent got any old rope im a meh youngster compared to you
  20. it really depends on how much room you have to play with, if you want it not to move a inch you can tie off the sections with timber hitches and tension up the line, but with this one we had so much room it was just quicker to choke off the speedline round top and attach the section with a sling and karabiner and tension it up hand tight round the device and lock off.
  21. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/video-forum/22121-eucalyptus-dismantle.html i use one for the timber on this video to stop it hitting green house or fence and hedge and smashing the surounding trees and shrubs.

  23. had a lovely climb yesterday in the gale force winds and rain up the perfect tree for high winds still got it all down in couple hours [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShdTcQ6K4Lo]YouTube - euc dismantle[/ame]
  24. good for useing on the main stem, ill stick a video up later of todays job where i used one to stop the peices bouceing into the green house or fence works very fast and effectively
