  1. they were very lucky it couldnt have fallen any other way than it did and it managed to have all the kinks in the stem in all the right places to miss them all its maroon 5 - makes me wonder
  2. just a quick video of me popping my head out the top of my favourite tree, have worked on this tree 3 years ago this month, just took 2 big limbs off you can see the blank stems remaining. this time was to clear up a big limb failure just needed tieing off, i couldnt resist going to the top though in desperate need of deadwooding but churches pockets being tight i cant see it happening [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gKKnCR4U2o]cedar limb failure - YouTube[/ame]
  3. they are great for what they are and what they cost its just moving them around thats the pain. i have no complaints with it tho. nor does a friend of mine who has the same as me bought it earlier in the year he said hes not found anything it wont split, only thing is he said its much easier to split dryed wood than wet wood and sometimes its easier to just cut some big rings in half then put it on the splitter.
  4. nope it was the rugby ball sized camara in the shadow at the start for me
  5. my new toy arrived today, ever since i ordered it ive been thinking how will i get it to my yard as i dont own a small trailer i was thinking id have to buy a little trailer, lucky that it has some small wheels on it so i can just wheel it up onto the tranny, didnt fancy lifting it every time it weighs 140KG with no good lifting grips
  6. i bought a tool box off these guys good quality, they will build what you want aswell and they arent very expensive Custom Secure Aluminium Storage Boxes from Metallics UK
  7. one that always sticks in my mind is my first crane job, was passed onto me when a fellow arb company i do some subby climbing with didnt want to quote for the job so i quoted and did the job. after having reg coates invite me up to manchester to see him in action with a crane i was more confident but still bricking it last picture is the first branch to come off that is where my heart was racing sticking the backcut in that
  8. good little vid, hope to see more in the near future. i like that speedline idea, ive only used the 2 pulleys 1 being pre tensioned line and other being control line, that is so simple for small stuff
  9. cheers guys i was thinking it would be around the 4/5 quid mark as for the tax man i can keep him happy as ill just stick the money in my business account
  10. been looking at easy ways to make some cash, so bought a petrol log splitter ive got a fair amount of wood up my yard, my house is on a busy road through a village some reason lots of people cut through 2 major roads through the village, anyways i was going to fill some netted bags and stick a sign up saying logs etc but have no idea what the usual price for a net bag full is worth any help guys? hopeing i can get some people stop buy some logs give out the business card for tree surgery and hopefully get my name out there even more win win
  11. mine arrived today, its pouring with rain it doesnt cope to well with moving people at night, dont no if its just the rain but here is a pic
  12. i would say if it has to be speedlined, i would direct it onto the back tree first off then u have more height in the line to clear obsticles etc. but there will come a point where you will be to low down and wont be able to speedline anything especially when it comes to the timber side of things.
  13. good enough for me ordered the 1 off the link and bought 2x 16gb sd cards bring on the weird and wonderful pics im gunna get
  14. the quality is amazing on that, i like it alot! what do you actually get in the box with the camara then?
  15. thanks for help guys i shall remember next time, i almost took a whole 1 back with me to get any more pics people would need for the id, i take it the easy way is to just tap it with a hammer and if it sounds hollow chances are its been decaying quite a while?
  16. been to look at this big poplar today, lots of this fungi all round the base, my guess is Perenniporia fraxinea but im useless at fungi ids. she wants to no what the fungi is and then recomendations, so i have said i think its Perenniporia fraxinea in which case its a white rotter and heavy reduction to the tree. i told her i was rubbish at fungi id and said ill confirm it with some people who no what there talking about. im interested to no what it is and what effects it has to the structure etc as if i get the job it will all have to be climbed and rigged down. thanks in advance
  17. i usually just asume the whole tree will annoy me, so i just crack out the 3120 and get a move on cutting a gob out at the base
  18. exactly what i thought, this was on a skinny woodland beech, all straight up pretty much, well im over 12stone these days not, must be why we like ladders
  19. working for smith77 off here again, just had these 2 walnut trees grown with a crown that relys on each other for shape, we just reduced all the pokey out bits all over and removed deadwood and epicormics and lifted the crown by a couple of ft. only got the after pics unfortunatly. then we had to reduce some long limbs overhanging there hedge from a beech and gareth seems to think my anchor points are abit small he thought the walnut was bad, then i went up the beech and he thought it was stubid small, so ive got a picture to see what people think it was about 2ft from the top. couple of pics from that sycamore dismantle video of the felling cut and finally got my beast back with a new cylinder and piston
  20. easy day climbing for gareth smith (smith77) off here again, had all day to get this 1 tree down so took are time, had a nice easy relaxed day and it didnt rain since it looked like it would pour down all day. not a big tree just thought it was a simple enough tree to get a alright video out of rest of the stem was just felled in one. 21. had a minor problem while finishing off this poplar job these were the only 2 coming out to the ground the leaning 1 would have been a right pile of sh*t to climb and rig out so, i spiked up the 1 next to it stripped it out stuck a pulley at the top, then stuck a surporting line to the top of this stem so it didnt take all the load, tied the lowering line to the leaning poplar then stuck a pull line to the landy. felled it rope took the weight landy started pulling it all going perfect then SNAP there goes the old lowering rope still no damage but goes to show the ropes do snap never had one snap before.
  22. wouldnt it do exactly the same by just doing a normal bore cut in the middle
  23. yer and ians truck got first go, my truck was 2nd to get filled up
