  1. Thanks Justin.

I'll do that. Just need to sort out what I want, and when I need it, then I'll give you a call. I might even pop-up as you're not too far away.

  2. I'll think the shed in the background is 6'5". On that basis I reckon the tree in the foreground is just over twice the size of the shed, so I'll guess at 13'4"?
  3. Thanks Marc. I knew I must have been missing the point somewhere. So it can be used in the same way as a conventional cambium saver, or be tightened at the top of a stem. And presumably then, the length of cord from the saver to the pulley is also adjustable to allow the pulley freedom of movement when attached to a stem? (if that makes any sense?)
  4. I think the reason we get paid less than other trades is that if I wasn't doing this every day for work, I'd be doing it for fun. I can't imagine many sparks or plumbers could say the same... that's not to say I don't agree with you. Also, it's because sparks and plumbers don't have to pitch their quotes against unscrupulous pikies that'll murder a tree for a fraction of our costs.
  5. I'll try with just the pulley next time I know I'm going to have to retrieve my cambium saver. If it's significantly better, I might even join you...
  6. It goes through the large ring and the pulley. I realize there's going to be a little more friction than if it were just through a pulley, but is it worth £115? It may well be, as I said, I've never used one.
  7. Wouldn't it have just been sod's law if you'd have got your cambium saver stuck!
  8. I have never used rope guide, so may have completely missed the point here, but I attach a pulley to the small eye of my cambium saver with a mallion. The combination costs about £15. What am I missing that's worth an extra £115?
  9. Did you also notice the men installing the oak beams were using Silky Zubats to trim the ends off the pegs?
  10. I could, but he'd want retail prices for it, and there's a young lad working for us who's learning to climb and I think he'd like it.
  11. No it hasn't worn out at all. In fact I climb every day in it and it's still in really good nic. I'm going self employed though, and it belongs to the company I work for. I'm trying to decide if I want another one, or if I'm going to try something different?
  12. Boots and trousers £300 (min)

    Harness £200

    Rope £100

    Spikes £200

    Lid(s) £100

    Caribiners/strops/throwline,

    cambium saver/pulleys/silky/bags,

    etc..... £200

It certainly doesn't take long to add up! I figured the lowering could wait till I need it.

M&J have been really good. I think they've asked me to do a couple of days a week, but there were a few crossed wires going on, so I'm not sure if that's what they ment. I'm seeing them both next week.

I don't mind driwing to the show if that helps?

  13. It's a nice thought, but you know MJ. I'd end up paying him more than they want for new kit! Besides, I like trying new stuff and fancy a change. I really like the Treemotion, but it's very pricey and when it's hot you sweat like bishop in a brothel. Also, hanging a saw from it is a nightmare. It hangs like a rude-boys jeans with any weight on the back. Other than those two little moans, very nice though.
  14. Why is that treesnake? I've heard some good things about it, and it was on my short-list.
  15. You're right Mick. A much more professional approach. I was thinking of the tree and hadn't given any consideration to the host.
  16. He looks like a big guy, so I'd have opened him up with an 084. I think once re-potted, the tree would have recovered well.
  17. Looks like a lot of fun. What were you doing to it?
  18. Judging by that picture I'd say you need a bit more back support! Ha!
  19. I read a review that said the leg straps on them were particularly awkward to do up (Skylotec)?
  20. This is just out of curiosity. I've been using a Treemotion for about a year, and it's great, however I need a new harness now and just wondered which was the most popular and why you like them?
  21. Hey! How did you get to a senior member?

I want to be a senior member too. :-(

Are you going to the Arb fair this year? If you are, let me know and maybe we could go together?

And thanks for all your help!

  22. Well, I think circumstance has made the decision for me. Thanks for all the replies. It's been a big help. Oh, and if anyone wants a climber....
