  1. There's a deep knowledge base that's for sure which you can't just google or youtube because it's so specialised. Remember what it was like before the internet. Fixing stuff meant paying someone else to do it or having a go yourself but spending far longer on it than one who has the knack. But here it is - all free!
  2. Data from ship-tracking service ICIS LNG Edge shows that before Russia's invasion of Ukraine caused turmoil in energy markets, the UK imported 3.9bcm of LNG from the US in 2021, 26% of the UK's total LNG imports. However, over the 12 months to October 2022, the UK imported 9.7bcm of American LNG, 42% of total imports.8 Nov 2022
  3. We cut some featheredged to cover external insulation as lapping. It was well rested prior to milling and blue-stained in winter so we treated it. Good luck with those knots.
  4. The court order has evicted the "son", it's just the son is just a bit homesick but wont admit it. The EU rationale is very simple. It has rules, subscribe to them and you're in the club. If you don't follow the rules, then you'll be asked to leave. Simples. The NI/RoI border separates those in and those out. The UK Gov has spent years trying to persuade the EU that they can have it their way not the EU's way. From the EU's PoV, the UK has gone. The UK just needs to present a rational case that the EU can accept under its own rules - to trade again as if their were no borders. The current UK Gov has consistently failed to do this. It's called cakism - wanting to have your cake and eat it too. No rational mind can tolerate that 🤣 The brits are famously non-rational.
  5. This is like your child telling you he doesn't want to be a member of your family anymore and you agree and then promptly evict him, and no longer financially support him and disinherit him. How else would the EU behave given the UK gov said they wanted to leave its club? And I'm a brexiteer
  6. I voted Brexit and could list quite a few. So far we've only had some poor responses to your question: "The following sentence is true. The previous sentence was false." or Here are the following reasons why Brexit was a good idea and that is why Brexit was a good idea 🤣
  7. what was the Lone Ranger's pet name for Tonto anyway?
  8. This explains your position on the over 50s thread on Sunday. Our son worked under an umbrella agency getting pre-tax expenses and other perks. It all sounded too good to be true until the proverbial hit the fan. Glad it's over for you.
  9. There was even a trans tree officer once - you'd be surprised
  10. Yep. Remember when British Rail decided to rename their passengers as customers and the service got worse? LAs cannot be helpful in case they give out duff info and are then held responsible, that is, made liable, I spose. Good job we've got a few gamekeepers turned poachers here on AT🤣
  11. I cannot give you the circumspect lawyerly exposition - though I greatly admire their language. Isn't it simply that informing a LA of intention for tree work gets a notice put up (adjacent to site, online, in local paper) which therefore informs locals of a proposed change and gives them opportunity to object (like planning) perhaps because it'll affect the character of a place or someone has found a rare beetle, etc Whereas felling more than 5m3 in a quarter would affect the ecological, environmental and landscape aspects of a locale. So the joined up thinking or overlap is seldom seen because the former is about amenity for community and the later is about the wider natural world influenced by the likes of horse-womankind.
  12. This makes you ideological though, doesn't it? Equality by other means🤣

    Gone mad

I knew couples who had to become grockle bargies at the time of the poll tax - some without engines and one with twin screws but only one engine so the tiller had to be set away to compensate. There's alot round Bath but mooring fees aren't really any different from council tax. Maybe it's better in Staffs?
  14. Fair dos. I'm not advocating it. I'm just saying that's what the consequences of the tory budget will mean. I could be wrong though. Oh, and it's not rich people in terms of income, it's the assets of the wealthy - they're not the same. Not all rich people are wealthy, but all wealthy people are rich. @Squaredy gave a good alternative tax system back along that would make the same distinction.
  15. No worries. I know you take this seriously so you probably are interested given the links you post most days. How's this for lightening the load? "You may not be interested in them but they are almost certainly interested in you" 🤣
  16. I'm no lefty and never voted Labour in my life. Why? because they're ideological which means they put their pre-conceived ideas before facts, because they are rational not empirical, and because their policies appeal to fake sentimentality and inclusive concern and are not based on reality. We're off out for the day now. Thanks for the chat and I'll pick it up later if you want?
  17. Housing and land are like the gold standard used to be. When Gov instills confidence in business and international investment then sterling goes up. It's time to tax those rentiers. That's why Hunt has only helped OAPs and those on benefits - apart from the obvious fact that they are core voters. As for your first point, Britain is still free. You can do as you please. But if you only want to please yourself then it'll cost you more, that's all.
  18. Hunt's budget proposal will hurt middle income earners which will affect arb. Taxing the wealthy would spare that. Redistributing wealth from the top end will get more people working which must be a good thing?
  19. Council tax rises will make empty property and second homes more questionable. Land tax was a Corbyn notion and Starmer wont introduce it - I only mentioned it because of the investment point you make. Wealth owns stuff including property but doesnt use it productively. They only rent it out whilst doing nothing other maintaining it. It's called the rentier economy. It partly explains why the country is a service based economy rather than manufacturing industry. It's part of the reason why 50 year olds are dropping out of the job market.
  20. Property prices went up 10+% during furlough and after lockdown because the wealthy were handed huge piles of cash. Housing is teetering on a peak and some pundits say many will be in negative equity if things get worse. As for your position, by you doing less hours does that not mean more work will be available for others?
  21. High earners got more furlough than us plebs though so they should be taxed more now, shouldn't they?
