  1. Yeah, sorry. I meant it a bit tongue in cheek though:blushing:
  2. I find even just taking off my socks and boots when i stop makes a huge difference to cooling.
  3. Did a show last weekend with the sawmill. HSE man on site said he saw two things wrong. One was using the 088 with 4'bar cross cutting near spectators, but agreed he had watched me trying to move the moronic public from being in-line with the saw, the other was no guard on the drivebelt for the mill. It never had one from the factory, and you would need to try very hard to get caught in it. I pointed out that i had removed all the guards from the 'throat' thus exposing the blade- if milling small diameter then there could be 2 foot of blade showing. "not a problem as everyone knows it is dangerous" was the response! I couldnt believe my ears. It would be sooo easy to trip and fall onto that blade!
  4. Mmmmmmmmm..........model railway trees??
  5. Is that a close up of corrosion, similar to that on battery terminals? Or coral??
  6. You can use the original tub, but you will end up with a very high floor to the butt, and those wheel arches being in the way would mean you end up forking out chip or handballing logs, so given how straight your truck looks, sell the butt for loadsamoney on fleabay (i have seen good ones go for £400!!!!) and get an ali butt off a scrapper- sherpa and cabstar are both good i think. Or pay thousands for a bespoke one.
  7. Hell, i didnt realise that. For that much you can have it including the postage!!LOL:001_tongue:
  8. In the nicest possible way, and not meaning to cause offence..... Get a grip man Organized religion......its the biggest experiment in social control that anyone has ever come up with.
  9. sell?? sell?? how very dare you! :001_tongue:

    first car

Round me all the kiddies with new licences seem to by 1 litre novas, then bolt loads of bits on to make them look and sound as gay as *&^% and then put huge stereos in them making everyone look at them being gay......personally i would go with a £300 cheapo petrol unless you are doing big miles, then a peugot 106 1.4 diesel could be ideal. Or a transit tipper! LOL I think the best thing is to check out insurance costs, then find the best condition motor with a sub 1.3 engine (cheap tax) you can for your budget.
  11. I think by memory- it was about 6 yrs ago- that this cost me about £800 in all. !00 for ally dropside sherpa for the butt, that i cut the length down to keep ifor top, 120 in steel for frame, and 50 for the pump off a transit and 3 stage ram off a farm trailer. And three nights in the workshop with my old landlord- good welder fabricator/ farmer. I have also got chip sides, made of ply, but at the mo have the ifor on as i am leaving the chips on this job, and have loads of gear in the back.:001_smile:Its nowhere near as smart as some of the gear on this forum, but it suits me.
  12. That just about sums up the reality in my case too. I would love the luxury of having a second, competent climber to work as a groundie. Not financially viable in nearly all dom jobs. Anyway, all you guys banging on about how you always have one/ wouldnt do a job wothout one etc etc, thats fair enough, but a: how many aerial rescues have you or your workmates witnessed, and b:do your men have regular refreshers in aerial rescue so that WITHOUT DOUBT they will perform it correctly and efficiently enough to get the casualty down? If you are injured so badly that you cant move through spino-skeletal or large wound damage then your rescuer needs you on the ground and out of the harness in sub 15 mins. Is that going to happen i ask myself when trying to justify that extra cost to myself/ my potential customer.
  13. UNfortunately a lot of the time I have just a groundie....It dependes on how much climbing there is on a job. If its all or most of a day i get a 'rescue' qualified helper for the day, if not then i dont pay the extra money. Before i had learnt to climb i quite often got 2 guys so i would be meeting requirements of having someone capable of performing a rescue, having been told not to climb by my physio. Then i ignored her advice and thought that if i was qualified then i could save myself the cost of one climber who was on the ground waiting to do a rescue that was never needed. It never panned out like that.....i just started climbing myself and enjoyed it so much that i rarely have another qualified climber now. Naughty i know, but like i said in another post in my fairly limited experience i have only met one guy that has done a rescue 'in anger'. Thats my excuse anyway.
  14. Now thats what i was trying to say in my rambling incoherence...:001_tongue:Thanks.
  15. Good point mate, and you swb. I was the same. I have been working on the ground with trees for 12 years now, and around them/wood for ever, but only learnt to climb with ropes etc 2 years ago. When i went on my climbing courses there were lads who had only that year picked up a saw in any serious amount before, and believed that they could then do it all:confused1: It made me feel a bit novicey for a wile, with a whole new set of skills.
  16. Thats totally true, and tbh i was aware of that, but I couldn't be bothered to write that to someone who was obviouslt taking the piss already. He probably knew it aswell.
  17. That is really good advice mate- with gear that big the potential for things going very very wrong through the slightest miscalculation is very present.Use this job as a learner, by getting in some experience- it will stand you in really good stead, and your name can still be on the top of the job sheet. Good luck mate.
  18. same here. Hours ago. Fat lot of good it seems to have done.
  19. Totally agree. We are all trained, and if we stick to our training and obey good practices then there is minimal risk. I dont think i know anyone who has done an aerial rescue, except for my mate who is an instructor and had a pupil 'freeze' up a tree.
  20. :crying:you're all doomed, doomed ah tell thee:001_cool:
  21. Just done it. It still comes up...this is the message i sent him:Hello mate. Where did you get that saw, as it is NOT a new uk spec ms440. It looks both old, and totaly different from the current range. Do you want to remove/ change the listing, or is it necessary to report to ebay?? Selling non uk saws in the uk is illegal BTW, and that definitely isnt one, i'm not even sure it is a genuine stihl. Your call. He has obviously got some front. Tosser.
  22. Haha. Thanks- i had hoped so, it was just a funny (amusing) way of putting it. Thanks mate, quite proud of it. That was a very productive tree- my mate carver si made a 7'high sculpture of two diving otters out of one bit, i planked 10 kitchen worksurfaces out of the rest and made 2 bowls. Paid £60 for the log!!!
