  2. Wow- that is amazing!! That must be sooo old!
  3. Lol- yes!!blue bar
  4. I found this photo the other day of a holm oak from just over a year ago. I think it may be at Carwinion in the north helford area of Cornwall.
  5. no thats not an issue on my landy, and hasnt been for the last 5 years. Again, a lack of maintainence causes that. Keep breathers clear and oil seals stay intact.
  6. When i change the oil i do the chassis and cover it with sump oil til its dripping. Not as good as waxoyl but its a free close second. Yours is looking great dean.
  7. GREAT set of pics big guy. Looks like you indeed had fun!
  8. Calviata gigantia.
  9. :blushing:thats what i was trying to say....
  10. As its a forum and we are all entitled to an opinion, i think that your truck loks great, but TBH gives me a headache looking at it:blushing:. I think that taupotree and rupe have it bang on. Easy to read, clear and concise. Before i had my mickey mouse signs made for my landy, i asked some customers and mates, and the general concensus was simplicity rules.
  11. LOl- thats a very kind way to put it- i prefer "you obviously didnt think you understood it and gawped at it for ages trying to suss it out and inadvertently got the jist":laugh1:
  12. Usually get it from farmers. I think the best was about 5 years ago. Mature oak on the side of a quiet road. Nice straight millable trunk. Big tree, plenty of work, £1100 quoted. Well he thought i would do it for the wood, as he knew i miled timber, and i could sell the rest for logs. Then i said no way on a TPO,d tree, and he said ok- sunday morning, and he would deal with the arisings!!! Oh, and he wanted a slab from the trunk and 8 4x3 12' beams for his sons barn conversion. I said £1100 for the tree, and i would work out a price for the timber..........DONT BACK DOWN GUYS. Needless to say i didnt get the job, and the tree still stands, and i know 3 others who have been approached in the same manner.
  13. Cool. Thanks. Think I missed the point somewhere before! Having had dealings with Yell myself, i have to say i have found them to be the most useless and annoying crowd ever!
  14. What happens if you arent more effective? Or are you always more effective? (genuine q.)
  15. I am not sure i have understood correctly- are you happy that Yell's share price is up overall, or are you saying that they are going down hill. I am sure that link shows them up 9%...Yet you seem to be saying they are going downhill. Can you explain it to a thicko pls?
  16. Can you PM me your details, I may be interested in one or both of those places Johnty.
  17. Nice set of pics- good job!
  18. Haha- no its ths amazing filter i have got for my HTC.......its called having your finger too near the lens......... December last year, looking out from my yard. Its a sunrise though, sorry:001_tt2:
  19. Well thank god someone said it....I mean, really??
  20. Ive a couple of biggies, but TBH i would rather steer clear of them if i can:blushing: seeing as how i dont have a museums worth of vintage and modern loading gear:lol: I bought the first log off treemantom.
  21. Mmmmmm, i did wonder about that lol!
  22. Woo Hoo Big lumps of wood:thumbup: Very nice. You pleased with the norwood? I was going for one of those and when i rang up the supplier they said they were doing hudsons now, so i had a hudson lol
  23. Passing the NPTC assessment is usually the immediate goal for those undergoing training, and there is therefore a strong relationship between the two, hence the shortening in speech from 'i am starting my training which will then enable me to sit and pass an NPTC assessment on monday....' to ' i am starting my NPTC course on monday......' I reckon. Welcome to Arbtalk BTW.
  24. No worries- nice to have ya back mate:thumbup1: TBH the site hasnt been too wet even with rain today....I take it that you had it a bit damper then?
  25. Cutter one- the big lump- and it was enourmous- was originally going to make huge tabletops, but i could only get 6'6" of usable timber from it, due to extensive bark inclusion at the start of the crown and rot/ dirt issues from that. I milled the oblong block into 3 each of 2", 3" and 4". Rob- cheers mate. You are so right about beech. In larger trees the timber, even if not diseased, is invariably stunning to look at, with visible medullary rays even. Even when not figured or coloured it is a very attractive and as you say extremely hard indoor timber.
