Thanks everone for advice, think my options are arb student (part time) polish workers, or skilled labour.
  3. i think it's good that the bbc think anyone can go in the local woods and start removing trees for fire wood, i think the nt and fc would have somthing to say on the matter. And i would be annoyed if people started turing up at my woodland and helping them self.

somerset is sw uk. I couldn't supply boots to every one who i offered a job to as i would be broke after a few weeks, if i had a long running lad who was interested in persuing career with company then i would buy all kit.

good advice i'll put that when advertising next, hopefully better response. when it gets to the point of labor earning more than me per job it will be time to hand up the chainsaws.

i know what you mean and no i wouldn't work for that but I dont like paying to much for new staff as if it doesn't work out i end up losing to much, but if the right guys come on i would do all i can to keep them, and generaly we start at 9 and are finished by 3.
  9. adverts good idea and not in your face, handy as am looking for a new pair of spikes.

£120per day is metal. farting higher than their arses i think. It seems that nobody can rubbish the work of foreign workers though which kinda fills me with shame at the british work ethic (present company excluded).
  11. come to think of it i havn't seen any bins in years, i had to pay £6 per 25kg today for salt.

I pay £5ph but pay bonus if hard working, i allow £50 pppd. I suply all equipment including helment and hi vis just require steel toe boots (and packed lunch), if used own kit may pay more.

yes i have had a few numties and as for being on the phone nuf said. thanks alasdair for offer. I have a polish lad coming on next month for a trail, just language may be a problem and public image, people assume you pay penuts to foreign labor, but he'll get the same as everyone else, a shame the local lads arn't interested. i'll get there though and have a good base of skilled workers so just working on rest.

I'm based in Somerset, the problem i have is soon as i tell them it's manual labor they dont turn up. I'm glad i'm not the only one having problems staffing. I will put up an add, i think an arb stundent will be benificial.
