  1. .. my terrible ident skills? Found it at work today, don't have a clue what it is but thought it looked a bit funky so was worth posting. Monkeyd?
  2. Even the Borrowers hate lime epicormics
  3. Yours was slightly more beige
  4. Tis! I think you're winning so far
  5. ...peculiar objects I'm sure there have been threads in the past on "strange things you've found in trees" but after today I felt compelled to start one purely about "strange things you've found amongst epicormic/basal/whatever you like to call it" Anyone lucky enough to find themselves removing endless rows of epicormic will be all too familiar with the standard half empty beer cans & sweet wrappers etc, but what's the most interesting/ bizarre thing you've come across? I'll start it off with today's findings - a purple ball and a rubber car mat Incidentally, in the same area a sevenish year old girl "flipped me the bird" so to speak, to give you an idea of the kinda places we end up epicormicing
  6. I've got one but I don't know if it's a bit too iffy
  7. Your ones have actually made me laugh so far
  8. I knew you two would be the first to post
  9. If this were Facebook I would "Like" it
  10. Wondered how long it would be 'til there was bloodshed on this thread! Looking good so far though, to me anyway. Well, based on the advice of you lot I've now got a "Frost Mora 164" crook knife, a "Frost Mora 120" knife, a Swiss draw knife and The encyclopedia of Green Woodworking. All the gear and no idea at the moment! I'll have a read through and post a picture of my first attempt (no matter how embarrassing I'm sure it will be).

  12. Nice one! I was the same, spent ages prepping for it even though loads of peoples' advice was "oh it's easy".. Anything's easy if you can already do it, lol
  13. I think I saw that one when I was researching, looks handy.. that's something to look into if I'm any good with the cheaper tools
  14. Say no mo-wah! Does she like, er... photography? CTS doesn't
  15. Will do thanks to all of you for the advice, really appreciate it
  16. Wow! Really impressive. That last bit is gorgeous, what is it?
  17. Yeah go for it, I'd be appreciative of anyone's contributions
  18. Haha, nice! A great place to ask my list of stupid questions I'm sure I'll create as I try it Sounds like that book's worth getting, I'll have a look for it.
  19. Cheers for the link Ian, they do look nice but I don't think they're quite as cheap as the other ones... I'll do a bit of research of both. I can't wait to try it now, got me all excited I'm such a kid
  20. Ok thanks a lot Simon, I'll bear that in mind do you have any pictures of your carvings?
  21. Wow that was quick! Thanks sean, the book and website look really helpful
  22. Ahem I picked up a Living Woods magazine at the AA show and found myself drawn to a section about wooden spoon carving... since then I've had the urge to have a go but I'm literally a complete novice, besides a bit of wood turning. I'd like to buy some basic tools to get me going (just starting with spoons for now, unless there's an easier "beginner shape"?) but being a broke apprentice I don't have much cash to splash... just wondered if anyone had any advice please? I was thinking of buying these just to see if I take to it or not... what do we think? Camelot Outdoor Supplies, Frosts mora Carving 120 & crook 164 spoon carving kit Thanks in advance! Jen
