  1. Ahhhhhhh she's gorgeous! Must take after her mummy Congrats both of you x
  2. Cheers, I'm not selling that particular one as I'm keeping it as my first prototype but yeah when I get a decent amount of wood in I'd like to try selling them
  3. Oh I see thought he meant something to do with it absorbing the preservative better or something (doh). No I haven't, I was thinking about doing it but I was seeing if people look underneath and they don't seem to so I don't know if it would be worth it if they'll be sitting on the ground? Thanks for the tips everyone, got some things to think about now
  4. Thanks for the post Yeah I know exactly what you mean.. if it was for me or any of my family I'd use a big vat of poisonous decent stuff but I'm just trying to cover myself for anyone trying to cash in on the whole "I thought it was an actual mushroom so I tried to eat it and had a seven hour operation, where's my cheque" thang might sound paranoid but that's the sort of bad luck I seem to have I'm thinking if I just mention the preservative contents on the carving's label it should relieve me of that sort of responsibility? If it's fine when it's dry then it's not a problem
  5. All these compliments! I thought about tung/danish oil when I was at a wood turning class the other day but as you say they seem to come in small amounts and are quite expensive.. do you know of any particular mixes I could look for?
  6. Cheers No I haven't, should I?
  7. Cheers everyone, didn't expect any feedback on the mushroom itself actually, gives me some hope! Tommy - Barrettine seems quite expensive normally but I got it trade price which was handy John - I've got the Wickes one too actually, it's got a much lower toxic stuff content on the back but I haven't tried it yet as it looks quite dark? What colour do you use? Does anyone know where you can get a fairly cheap (preferably not highly toxic ) clear preservative? I know Barrattine do one but wondered what everyone else uses

    Lack of PPE?

Yeah both me hehe, I'm a dark horse ;)
  9. Hehe, gracias look forward to seeing you
  10. Hey guys, I've been practising some mushroom chainsaw carving (here's one I made earlier ) and wanted to apply preservative. I used Barrettine and as it's got all the toxic symbols on the back I wondered if it's no longer toxic when it's fully dry? Just wanted to check before someone's cat/child/spouse licks it and keels over Cheers, Jenny
  11. Taken near Dumfries on the drive back up from England last week. Not the best quality as I was hanging out the window at the time
  12. Don't think so, I'll see nearer the time though. Thanks for letting me know about it :001_smile:

  13. Jesus, spose you'd have to remove it if the Blue Man Group are living in there
  14. Oh my god, what the hell is wrong with people?! I'll keep an eye out for anything a bit sus looking, in the meantime we can go on a rampage if you like
  15. I was exactly like that after chipping a load of it one day, felt really sick and thumping headache, not good. Still rather chip that than London Plane though!
  16. Meant to mention I've got my CS30 and passed my CS31 on Thursday
  17. I've been offered the chance to try out chainsaw carving on some fallen limbs in a local park but I wondered how this work would with insurance; whether I would need personal/ third party or if the park would cover it etc, and if I did get insurance to cover carving in public, how would it cover me for working in peoples' gardens and such? Just need a general idea of it all really please
  18. Thanks everyone, I was anticipating a barrage of criticism but apparently not I use this to carve out the spoony shape Greenman Bushcraft - Cutting Tools > Frosts 162 Bushcraft Spoon Carving Knife, it took a lot more time and effort than the rest of the spoon, I don't know if that's normal or if I haven't quite got the technique for that yet. If you mean smooth as in properly smooth, I have no idea how that will happen yet any tips anyone?
  19. Just an update in case everyone thought I had abandoned the spoon thang After several attempts with too seasoned wood (someone suggested it would be good so I thought I'd try, many hours and plasters later I decided it wasn't), I took a bit of cherry from a tree we worked on the other day and had a go. Just thought I'd upload a picture of the rough shape I've got so far, seems to be much easier than before
  20. PAHAHAHAH! I did that at college (minus the dog mess) Ironically it was on comic relief so I did a nice little jig in front of all the visitors... the same day my friend shut his car boot only for all the glass to shatter out
  21. Update - blue rubber gloves and a yorkshire pudding
  22. Yeah that's him, we do some work with him at my company. I didn't know he was on here though?
  23. Found it just now, thought it was quite amusing (and having done Council tree work, all too familiar) BBC - Film Network - The Tree Officer
