  1. This is wrong on so many levels, my main concern is canvasing for business off the back of conservation area applications... They should have a code of practice with clearly defined rules to allow them to operate as a trading company as well as undertake council works. I'd ask to see the codes of practice and get your local councillor involved as this is poor practice and a clear message needs to be sent to RBC and other authorities. I have worked for companies who scan the planning portal for applications sand then target the house owner/applicant for the works, so the council are only doing the same, its the fact that they brought the commercial team rep to the Conservation application site meeting... Disgusting.....
  2. Location is key, more travel less they pay... I had a right game with them on a recent site in Malvern.... Poor communication and organisation... no show on a few occasions at yard too, which was not a big issue with yardman and loader but if you was booking a loader or local farmer for a few hours this would be a real pain in the ass....
  3. Skyhuck, You missed my sarcasm in the original statement, just that lots of simple electrical works now in theory need to be undertaken or at least signed of by a registered fitter and my comment also sighted probably the only electrical works that do not need a certificate (and light bulb change) if done in the work place or household especially when selling your property.
  4. As a professional weed control practitioner, I welcome a ban purely as it will undoubtably lead to more commercial opportunities. Its becoming a nanny state, but if i can't change a plug on a electrical appliance these days without paying a professional then why should i not be paid to undertake weed control in domestic properties.
  5. Industrial work portioning harnesses are not designed for dynamic loading required in rock climbing, so the short answer is no. Also if your new to the sport there are lots of cheap entry level harnesses. I'd imagine the industrial harness would take the shock loads but if your using it for work on a daily basis is it worth the risk? also the lightness and freedom of movement a rock hares gives you will held you progress through the grades quicker and with more confidence.
  6. Sorry but the dog thing makes you a balanced person, I'm talking 10 or more cats.... No dogs...
  7. Now you know .... Not judging you or out!
  8. After all sand and done, some tree owners refuse to take on financial responsibility, for the safe management of trees, the individuals usually own many cats and are quite unclean in appearance. I'd contact the tree officer asap. and get a site meeting, document your time/cost for this. I'd then advise the school to get the trees down if the landowner/treeowner will give you permission. I'd advise the school just to swallow the cost and get it down as the death/serious injury of a child will cost a lot more. The LA may send there own emergency crews and bill the owner if the tree is that dangerous , the cost will then be passed on to the owner... The owner may have mental heath issues/ be in severe financial difficulty or just an ass... Also i have dealt with a lot of schools and the heads/managers can often be difficult, is there any history between the school and the house owner. You may be better as a independent professional knocking the door and discussing options, sharing costs confirming tree status (dangerous) providing owner with technical data supporting your assessment.
  9. I agree, thats one pedantic individual! pedantic pɪˈdantɪk/Submit adjective excessively concerned with minor details or rules; overscrupulous. "his analyses are careful and even painstaking, but never pedantic" synonyms: overscrupulous, scrupulous, precise, exact, over-exacting, perfectionist, precisionist, punctilious, meticulous, fussy, fastidious, finical, finicky:001_tongue:
  10. price of steel in year of manufacture and chemical regulations (removing certain solvents from paint) have an influence on rusting, also if its and a life on coastal location i find they rust more, also all ex tree surgeon trucks are fUBAR ed .....

  12. Cap gun spent caps, party poppers smell just like them.....
  13. Loler is in my opinion is there to protect employees that are issued kit this is also covered under PUWER regs. I have my own personal kit and it's not Loler certified and it's used for my own work. I also have 15 years industry experience and 30 years rock climbing under my belt ... I work with other freelance guys who's kit I would not climb on! I'm also aware that in a rescue situation they would be using this kit to attempt to rescue me!
  14. Use a rear handle saw of similar size and weight... If your employer won't provide one use a hand pruning saw('silky saw' other brands are available but to date inferior) you'll get a better cut, bit more time and effort but worth it... all major contacts and employers i have worked for have a strict policy of no top handle use on the ground. If your self employed and a domestic tree surgeon its your call, I have used my top handle on the ground at home carrying out fruit tree pruning, but would never do it on contract. I also drink alcohol at home but never at work. I free climb trees and rock faces at home or on holiday but would never do it at work. I have done do a lot of challenging and sometimes reckless things in the name of recreation and excitement, At work its different, rules are rules, always question them but take heed ignore them and it goes wrong you, your employer and all the staff at your company will pay the price.
  15. Can any of your staff support you? It costs to have operational staff doing non operational work but if your that busy it makes sense, you might be on the cusp of employing someone to share this part of the business, if any of your operational staff have the skills and interest in this area then you can build this into their role, then get a subbie in to cover the operational gap.
